When You Want Marvelous Medium Coverage and Natural-Looking Skin, There’s Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation: Pores Don’t Fear It, But Pocketbooks Might

October 8th, 2014 by Karen 19 Comments

Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation
Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation in Caramel, $80 (OMG!), one of 15 shades available now at Tom Ford counters and online

Yeah, this foundation is $80. It’s Tom Ford, so it comes with 10,000 volts of taser-like TF sticker shock.

Traceless Perfecting Foundation is a new addition to Tom’s permanent line, liquid foundation formula, available in 15 shades for $80, and that gets you a 1-ounce bottle.

The medium-coverage formula has a super subtle sheen and a velvety finish, so skin looks natural, real and not flat, and you can sheer it out even more to enhance that.

The formula doesn’t do much by way of controlling oil, so if you have oily skin, it may not help you out there, but for normal or dry skin, this would be a good, lightweight, natural-looking foundation for everyday wear.

With a fairly painful price.

To be honest, the coverage doesn’t dazzle me in pics, where I like my coverage closer to full and opaque, and my pores are totally unafraid of this stuff. I wish it blurred them into the background a bit better, but that’s me. If you already have perfect skin, you’ll be fine, but homegirl needs more help. Seriously, it takes a village.

I’m normally an NC42 in MAC, but that varies a little depending on my tan. I’ve been wearing the shade called Caramel, but I think it’s a little dark for me now that I’m starting to lose my tan, so I mix it with NARS Sheer Glow in Stromboli to lighten it up a little.

That works, but is it worth the effort? For $80, I don’t know. Survey says…probably not.

This is truly a medium-coverage foundation — great for undeniably gorgeous, natural-looking skin — if you don’t need more coverage.

PRICE: $80 (GREAT CAESAR’S GHOST EGAD!)
AVAILABILITY: Available now in 15 shades in the permanent line at Tom Ford Beauty counters and online

I wouldn’t spend $80 for a medium coverage, everyday foundation which does nothing to imperfections! No Sir!

Tom Ford has gorgeous packaging but I think there’s a serious markup on some of their products-like this foundation. I can barely justify $8 for a medium coverage foundation, let alone $80 😀

Yikes! It hurts just thinking about spending that kind of money on a foundation! I’m sure it looks amazing though.

Eh, it’s pretty in real life. Pics, it needs some extra support via a powder foundation.

When I started reading this post, I was hoping it would do fabulous things to justify the hefty price tag. Poor oil control and no effect on open pores is a heartbreaker for me.

      Hi Ankita,

Save your $ for TF’s Brow Sculptor and Cognac Sable Palette. 😀

LOL Your writeup of this foundation made me crack up! I think you and Tom Ford Beauty are at that point in your relationship where you can admit each others’ occasional annoying habits and flaws without diminishing your love for one another.

      Hi Ashleigh,

LOL, thanks! It really does take a village. 🙂

If you do ever try anything from TF, it’s gotta be the Brow Scluptor. Seriously, I could talk about it for days.

Hope you’re having a nice Wednesday so far. Any plans for the weekend yet?

I actually like this; at my age (46) you could rather leave the occasional imperfection showing than wear a solid mask of foundation. I have pretty oily skin too but my Nars Translucent Powder in Crystal takes care of that. The shade Tawny is great for me right now (Mac NC40-42). My dice with this foundation is the slightly herbal scent. Even though it doesn’t irritate my skin, it *smells* as if it’s irritating it….if you know what I mean ;).
I needed a foundation so I’m not sorry I bought it, but I’ll probably try something else rather than repurchasing this. This kind of thing happens when you have no counter in your country.

      Hi Bella,

I do think that this looks super pretty for everyday looks. I’ll have to check out Tawny!

What else have you tried from Tom Ford and loved? I’m all about the Brow Sculptor, the liquid liner and the Cognac Sable Eye Palette. 🙂

My faves are Nude Dip, Cocoa Mirage, I’m having an affair with Softcore, and I love Negligee and Bruised Plum lipsticks!

I am kind of glad this foundation doesn’t wow because I could never spend $80 on a bottle of makeup.

      Hi Agata,

Tom Ford is always crazy expensive, le sigh. I do have to say that there have been several things from the line that have BLOWN me away, like the brow pencil and the liquid liner. Seriously, some of the best I’ve ever tried. The price is killer though.

How are you liking your MAC Face & Body, by the way?

One day I will have to indulge in one of their products. The eyeshadows always look fabulous!

I LOVE Face&Body, I just wrote a review on my blog on it. I liked it from the first time I used it. My only regret is that I haven’t tried it earlier.

But while in Chicago I went to Sephora (what a great store on State St) and got a sample of the new Laura Mercier Smooth Finish foundation. The girl gave me two samples of two different shades but I think they are both wrong, one is too light, the other one too yellow. But I used the lighter one today and let me tell you, I think I am in love with this one too. I think Cashew would be a better match for me, I will need to ask for a sample of it next time I am at Sephora to make sure (before I commit to buying the foundation).

YEAH. That Laura foundation is SO GOOD. You can even skip powder. And the things it does with pores — AMAZING. Have you taken pics with it yet?!

My main problem is redness around my nose and it covered the redness so well! I’m super impressed! And no, I haven’t taken pictures with it yet but I hope I will look as good as you do in your pictures when I do, lol 🙂

Wow, that is incredible that a 1 ounce bottle of foundation costs that much. Just ridiculous. I thought my favorite $40 foundation was insane, but now I’m starting to appreciate it more. Haha.

Girl, what? How are you applying this? I have waaaaaaaay worse skin than you do, on any day, and this is flawless on me! Forget pores, I have acne scars! and when i wear this, people ask what I had done. I apply with a beauty blender. stipple more over problem areas, no powder, lasts all day. never tried it with a brush though.
