Unsung Heroes: Laura Mercier Metallic Creme Eye Colour in Alloy

September 28th, 2012 by Karen 17 Comments

laura mercier alloy

Lately Laura Mercier’s Metallic Creme Eye Colour in Alloy ($22) has been totally twitching my tail.

I’m not sure if it’s more because I just recently re-discovered my love for Laura Mercier’s permanent line (oh hai, Black Gold and Stormy Grey), because Chanel’s new Harmonie du Soir Quad keeps begging me to find her an appropriate playmate, or just because it’s one of the best taupe products I’ve ever tried. Or maybe a combination of all three.

Whatever the why, with Alloy, the beauty gods granted all of my taupe eye makeup wishes.

Is it neutral enough to flatter warm and cool skin tones? Yup.
Does the finish look alive (and not flat)? Yes again. In fact, I think the glistening metallic finish is just luminous enough to qualify as awesome.
Does it last long enough? I think so. How does eight hours sound?
Does it spread, layer, buff and blend like a dream? Yes, yes, yes and yes. 🙂 All thanks to an epic creamy formula.

Kitten-soft, opaque and ridiculously radiant, Alloy makes looking chic and polished as easy as swipe and smooth. I’ll apply it on my lids either packed on with a finger or a flat eyeshadow brush, and then smooth out the edges with a fluffy domed brush. Then, I’ll usually add either a dark gray or black liner and a couple coats of mascara.

love it!

The Unsung Heroes series, a long-running series here on Makeup and Beauty Blog, features some of my favorite permanent collection products from a variety of brands.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. According to my calendar, today is Friday. 🙂 TGIF!

I’m supposed to drive down to the city for a meeting this morning, but in order to do that, I have to get to my car…

I love it & wear it just as you do (softened on the edges & with a smudged black liner).
Perfect for an everyday look in 2 minutes!

Is that a gray taupe? Because if it is, I want it!

I don’t have a color similar to this (or any Laura Mercier products, for that matter), and I’m not usually a fan of creme eye shadows, but this color is too too gorgeous!

That’s pretty! Does it crease? I always find with cream colors that they crease real easy…

    Hey Karen,

Does it crease on you without primer? I have one of these in Rose Gold (love the color!), but it creases on me slightly after ~4 hours.

Love the color! I’m all for products I can use for a quick eye look.

Tabs is looking especially fierce in that pic. TGIF! Have a good Friday!

Oh, how I love this product-definitely and unsung hero-long wearing-beautiful shade worn alone as as a perfect base for MAC satin taupe!

Ahhh if it holds up for more than 8 hours on top of a primer I’ll be sold! Some stuff lasts 8 hours on me without a primer, but with a primer most stays put for longer than that. It’s a gorgeous color!

I haven’t tried it so I really can’t judge, but I have to say, it looks good!

I had never tried these before, but I was actually looking at these the other day. I can’t remember the color but maybe I will go back and get one now…

Ooh, what a gorgeous shade! I’ve been thinking of trying out these eye colours — my lids are horrible when it comes to creasing, but I’ve heard good things about the formula.

And, well, it doesn’t get much prettier than a shade like Alloy!

I own this in Alloy, Rose Gold, and one other color (name escapes me right now…) I agree, Karen. It is the perfect taupe and it goes on soooo smoothly! As long as it’s not too thick, it does not crease on me. I wish LM made these in a wider range of colors. I would definitely buy more! Now I’m going to my makeup stash to dig these out. Wish me luck. #needleinahaystack.

I’ve been eyeing the shade Platinum for a while, so it’s nice to know that the formula is good!

I just wanted to say that I recently started following your blog, and I love that you post about Laura mercier products. I love this brand and I don’t think it gets enough attention. Just saying 🙂

This looks almost similar to maybelline eye tatto color “bare to bronze”. I love that one!
