WARNING: High Voltage Dior Electric Tropics Swatches Follow

May 14th, 2011 by Karen 39 Comments

From one of our first looks at Dior Electric back in March

Do you remember checking out the limited edition Nude Healthy Glow Powder in Sunset #002 ($46) from the Dior Electric collection with me earlier this year? The entire collection is out on counters now, and I did a little swatching on a recent excursion to the mall.

Makeup worn in the picture at the top…
  • Nude Healthy Glow Powder in Sunset #002 from the Dior Electric Collection for Summer 2011
  • Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Golds 569
  • MAC Eye Kohl in Powersurge
  • LORAC Front of the Line Pro Liner
  • NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer
  • Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener
  • Becca Ultimate Mascara
  • Benefit Brows A-Go-Go on my eyes
  • MAC Lipglass in Lychee Luxe on my lips

Sweet basket weave pattern on those bronzer pans. Yum, I like that a lot.

In other news, I just watched the first two episodes of How to Make It in America online. Not bad at all! Kinda like Entourage with a fashion industry slant.

I’ll admit it. I’m totally baffled by the four nude glosses. With the exception of a FAINT spec of colour in “sweet peach,” I’m not sure I see the point in owning any of the four. I ADORE very sheer, nude glosses but I feel like releasing four of them is a bit.. redundant? Even as something to enhance another lipstick or stain I’m a little shocked. Otherwise, the rest looks fab!

I agree with the gloss colors, having seen them in person– I DO, however, see the point in owning one of these, since I put one on my lips! The texture cannot be beat, they have NO stick and are surprisingly long wearing. Love them! FYI, there’s a pink nail polish in the collection as well, but it’s only available at Saks.

I’m honestly not too into this collection, though the lipstick in Fire is very nice.

For something named Electric I was expecting bolder colors. The only item that seems to embody that is the nail polish.

Agreed. In fact I thought I misread and it said Eclectic instead, because I must have been mistaken… there is no electric going on here. Of course I was wrong about being wrong.

I’m guessing they wanted to keep the “electric” focus on the lips and nails. I don’t mind the subdued quints, but I do wish there were some punchier lipsticks.

The collection is flawless, one shade more perfect than the one before. These are definately all winners 🙂

I’m with Jessi- with a name like “high voltage” I’m seriously disappointed with the minimal pigment.
I could buy lipglosses like those for 2 bucks, and I’ve got a close enough dupe for most of the rest. I was expecting VIOLENTLY neon BRIGHT bold BAM!!! colors… this is kind of lame, especially for Dior.

They’ve been doing a lot of quieter collections lately. Who knows, maybe they’ll pull out all the stops come fall.

The nail polish is pretty but I’m not digging anything esle. I would have expected something more bright and pigmented from a collection called Electric. Instead most of the shades are so sheer and boring.

I like sheer when it contrasts with punchier colors.

The name would really make more sense if they had at least one pigmented item (other than the nail polish) to contrast all the sheer, pale, zzz shades. Like, pale pink, frosty white, ELECTRIC BLUE WHAM, nude gloss, etc.

What a misnomer!!! What is so Electric about this collection?

I like dior eyeshadow quints but these 2 look pretty unimpressive, IMO.

The Auora bronzing powder is so lovely! I swatches it in store yesterday and it is gorgeous.

I am so psyched you mentioned How To Make It In America, I just marathoned the whole season the other day, it’s so good! Unfortunately the next season first comes out in Fall, but I’ll definitely tune in again.

I’m lemming Rosy Nude, it looks gorgeous! Other than that, I think I can leave this collection, overall a little too nude and sheer! I completely agree with everyone else about the name vs. the collection!

Sometimes I lik mind nude and/or sheer, as long as there’s other stuff to punctuate balance it out. I wish they had at least a few more brights! Maybe a few more punchy lipsticks?

And you’re completely right, a couple of bright, juicy lipsticks would’ve rounded this out nicely!
