A springy makeup look with the Jane Iredale spring 2017 collection

I went outside today and felt the sun on my shoulders and my arms and my legs, and it was glorious! Spring. SPRING! It’s almost here, after what has seemed like the longest, coldest, wettest winter ever.

So, in celebration of spring’s upcoming awesomeness, I did a springy makeup look today using stuff from the new Jane Iredale spring 2017 collection, which is coming out on March 13th.

I don’t know much about the Jane Iredale makeup brand, but they’re a mineral makeup line out of the Berkshires in Massachusetts. They do very wearable, subtle colors (not quite as subtle as Bobbi Brown), and their new spring collection has an abundance of springy pinks and peaches with a teaspoon of taupe and plum.

Today I wanted dewy skin and light coverage foundation and concealer, which is basically what I wear when I’m not testing makeup for MBB. Most days, if left to my own devices, I wear light coverage instead of full-coverage layers, which is why I’ve got some freckle action happening today on my cheeks and around my eyes.

Featured products

Eyes: Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint in Lots o’ Latte (as a base on my lids), Jane Iredale PurePressed EyeShadow in Soft Kiss (lids and lower lash lines), Zoeva Graphic Eyes Pencil in Mute (upper water lines), Zoeva Graphic Eyes Pencil in Taupe (lower lash lines), Urban Decay Urban Lash in HBIC Babies (outer corner of upper lash lines), Urban Decay Brow Beater Brow Pencil, Benefit Ready Set Brow Gel

Cheeks: Jane Iredale In Touch Cream Blush in Candid (apples of my cheeks) and Jane Iredale Peaches & Cream Bronzer (upper cheekbones)

Face: BECCA Backlight Primer (applied all over my face as a primer), Hourglass Vanish Foundation (applied very sparingly on my cheeks, nose and forehead, and patted in with fingers), BECCA Soft Light Blurring Powder in Golden Hour (on my forehead, down the sides of my nose and around my mouth) and Make Up For Ever HD Concealer (under my eyes)

Lips: Jane Iredale Lipstick in Susan

I took Connor out for a couple of quick walks wearing this, and it felt good. I don’t think I looked like I just rolled out of bed, which is always a good thing, but I still felt like me.

How about you? What kind of makeup did you wear today? Did you do anything different? Try anything new? Inquiring minds want to know.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Ha, I wore green on my eyes today, feeling all springy as well. Of course I toned it down with lots of brown for the office, but still, color!

Aaw, Jane Iredale! Back in the day (10+ years ago) I used to have a blush from JI that I just adored… but I could only get it online or at the dermatologist’s office. I think the blush was Whisper, if I remember correctly! I’ll have to look into getting another pan.

Yes! They’ve been around for a while. I think I’m going to look more into their makeup; they have some pretty things!

How has your week been? I’m so happy tomorrow is Friday. The baby’s been keeping me on my toes lately.

It’s been good! Just got back from a 4-week vacay on Sunday, and I’m all about that PVG (Post-vacay glow), as my coworkers call it lol. This whole week has seemed pretty chill 🙂 it’s amazing what a good amount of rest and relaxation will do for your outlook!!

I’ve been following your adventures on Instagram! 🙂 It felt like I was traveling with you. What was your favorite part about the trip?

Oh, I would love a four-week vacation to anywhere. Ideally it would be someplace warm with an ocean.

Yay, I’m glad you got to catch a glimpse of the country! Favorite part… man. I don’t think I can pick! I really loved the South Island’s mountains & glacial water, and I really loved the North Island’s sunshine & beaches. The last place we stayed, Simpson’s Beach, was especially lovely. The beach was literally steps away. It’s pretty special to be able to run out to the beach for a swim, and come back to your flat without having to get in a car.

After taking such a long vacation, I’ve decided that it’s the only way to travel. I would recommend a 4-week (or even 3-week) vacay to EVERYONE. It feels… healthier, or something. I’m truly shocked at how much more relaxed/chill/able to cope with life I feel, after that break.
Apparently 4+ weeks is much more common in Europe – we ran into lots of folks who were in NZ for 5-7 week spans. Pretty nifty, and I can see why they do it!

Simpson’s Beach sounds like it’s just what I need right now. Sometimes I can’t believe there are people out there who can run out to the beach for a swim any old time they want. It blows my mind.

I think with long vacations the trick is to finding a way to schedule in a good amount of downtime. The last time I took a three-week long trip was over ten years ago, and El Hub and I jam packed so many things into that short amount of time. If I could do it again (and I hope that chance comes, because I really need a vacation!), I’d purposefully limit the places and schedule whole days to just chill.

How long did it take you to plan your itinerary?

Now you’re making me get the itch to travel!

We started talking about the trip about 3 or 4 years ago, and started planning hard-core in January 2016. Since there were 5 of us (me & my husband, his parents, and a family friend) there was a lot of coordination to do with flights/time off and such! Our friend had been there multiple times, and my hubs had gone for a month-long hiking excursion several years back, so they planned the locations out for the group. They planned so we had time to stay between 2-4 days (usually) in each location. Once the general itinerary was set, we booked flights about 10-11 months out (or however soon it was that we could book them) and then started reserving flats and airbnbs once those were locked in – maybe even before. There’s plenty of hotels that get booked more than a year in advance.
There was a lot of flexibility built in, so for each place we stayed we got to pick what we were “feeling like” either that day or the day before. We had a few early mornings, but mainly we would sleep in, drink coffee, and chill, eventually leaving the house/apt between 10 and 11.
I think if it had just been me & my hubby, we would’ve done a bit more hiking – but ultimately it was really good. Relatively slow-paced, but also dynamic since we switched up our location every few days. It was a really great way to get introduced to the country!

I like the look, it’s like late 90’s modernized.
