DAILY BEAUTY: A Few Drugstore Beauty Shower Stars I’ve Been Loving Lately From Neutrogena, Dove, Jason, Gud and Aveeno

June 29th, 2013 by Karen 23 Comments

Just some shower products I’ve been using and loving lately…

Dove’s Go Fresh Restore Body Wash in Blue Fig & Orange Blossom ($6) smells amaze-ering and lathers into a frothy bunch o’ bubbles. Totally wakes me up in the morning, too.

And when I shower at night, like after a workout, I’ve been using Jason Calming Lavender Pure Natural Body Wash ($7). It’s not as foamy as Dove’s Go Fresh, but the lavender fragrance totally chills me out and helps me wind down for the night.

I like that Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel ($4.29) rinses clean and doesn’t get my razor all goopy. And they recently changed the packaging so that it no longer leaves a rust ring if you leave it in your shower, hooray!

On days when I conditioner wash, I like Gud’s Red Ruby Groovy Conditioner ($7). It doesn’t weigh my hair down, and the scent smells like grapefruit gummies, om nom nom…

I also keep a tube of Neutrogena’s All-in-1 Daily Scrub ($7) in my shower and use it on my chin, which is my numero uno breakout zone. The scrub contains salicylic acid, which my skin responds well to. I’m on my second tube of this stuff because I love it that much.

Got any drugstore shower product recs for me? What have you been using and loving lately?

I like neutrogena grapefruit body wash. It’s medicated so it gets rid of backne and it smells yummy! And I don’t even like grapefruit!

Ok, this is embarrassing but it’s a life changing discovery. I run, workout & cycle, at times my underarms can rival that of my teenage son’s smelly sneakers. I use Head n’ Shoulders shampoo under my arms, 2 – 3 times a week, problem solved!! Amazing!

I really like Dove body washes! Have you tried the cucumber variant Karen? It is very refreshing in the summers!

Love the Dove and Gud body washes!

Try Caress’s Passionate Spell and a cpl. of others from the Fine Fragrance Elixir body washes. Burt’s Bees Rosemary Mint is another favorite-very refreshing! Aveeno’s Stress Relief used to be a staple in my bath-need to give it whirl again :).

No rust ring on shave cream in the shower? Sold! And I absolutely *must* try the Jason Body Wash. My current satsuma orange is a bit more energizing than calming. Not the right way to go before bed!

I’m down to the last dregs of my body lotion, so this morning I bought a couple of new ones to try. One is by CeraVe and the other is by St Ives. I’ll let you know if either are good. (ps How often do you [or are able to] check comments in past posts? If I commented on this post in 2 weeks time, would you see it? I wonder because you post frequently and are bombarded with comments.)

As for hair products, I’m trying to get through my stash before I crack open the Dermorganic Intensive Hair Repair Masque I found at Winners (the Canadian version of TJ Maxx). I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about its hair care products.

Karen, do you have any recs for hand creams and hair putty? I adore the Kiehls Ultimate Strength Hand Salve but I’m too cheap at the moment to buy it. I’m new to hair products, so I’m completely open to hair putty recs.

Nikita meows Happy Caturday to you and Tabs. 😀

St Ives body lotion is awesome. Which one did you get? I use the one with almond the rest of the family uses oatmeal.

I got the almond one too!
It’s wonderfully creamy and far better value than the CeraVe one. That said, I haven’t opened the CeraVe yet; it might blow my mind. 🙂

Why do you prefer the almond over the oatmeal one? I’ve never tried the latter.

The loreal hair mask reversal balm in a jar is amazing! Dare I say better than Aussie 5 minute miracle? It’s supposed to be a dupe for a Keristase balm. Dickensons witch hazel wipes. Love!!

Body Wash: Love that Dove one you have, and also am loving the cucumber and green tea one. Very refreshing for summer. I love the smell of Irish Spring and will use that in a body wash, or bar of soap. It is a good, refreshing one to use after a workout to really get squeaky clean.

Hair Shower Products: Love the Dove Cool Moisture series in the cucumber/green tea scent because it gets my hair clean without stripping it totally of oils. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle never fails to make my hair soft and shiny, and is a great affordable deep conditioner. To keep hair color going for 2 months or longer, I like the Ulta and John Frieda color glazes you can use in the shower (I typically use them with conditioner, and I use the brown glaze to keep my brunette color fresh for a while). Most of these glazes have UV protection, also, so they refresh your color and protect it without you spending a fortune on a dye job/glaze at a salon (they run about $10 a bottle in stores and last me for about 2 months or more).

Hair Products: I love the new L’Oreal collections, and I use the color protection spray from the color protection line (it’s in a pink spray bottle). I also like the Garnier Fructis argan oil – it’s a multi use oil that works just as well and is cheaper than MoroccanOil. I don’t use many hair products other than that and I pretty much always use drugstore products unless I want to splurge on BioSilk once in a while.

Makeup: Been LOVING the new CoverGirl Flamed Out mascara in Very Black. Doesn’t flake and sticks around all day. Highly recommend! I also got Maybelline the Rocket mascara in Brown/Black for a natural looking mascara and so far it does pretty well. Not sure I’m totally hooked on it yet, though.

Those are my recommendations for now – got lots for you to try out! Looks like you and I have similar taste when it comes to body washes and shampoo/conditioner. I will have to check out the Gud line.

Shampoo: Garnier Fructis Fortifying Shampoo in Pure Clean (this makes my hair feel so nice and clean)
Shaving Gel: Up & Up Women’s Shaving Gel in Strawberry Tangerine (this smells so good, I end up craving fruit smoothies)
Body Wash: Olay Silk Whimsy Moisturizing Body Wash with rose extract & almond oil (this feels so good on the skin and smells heavenly)
Body Scrub: Earth Therapeutics Loofah Exfoliating Scrub in Oatmeal & Honey
Face Scrub: Queen Helene Oatmeal ‘n Honey Natural Facial Scrub (this is gentle)

Biore’s Unclogging Pore Scrub is the bizness!! I’ve bought like 3 tubs. I use it in the morning while in the shower. I had stopped using it to try something else but ended purchasing it again not too long ago.

I’ve always been a big St. Ives body wash fan, though I can’t find my old fave anymore (collagen & elastin). I also swear by CeraVe facial wash and think that Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Gel Cleanser does a good job when used with my clarisonic. 🙂

I love GUD shower gels – they smell wonderful and lather well. I don’t like the GUD hair/conditioners though .. the shampoo is not very emollient and good luck getting your fingers through your hair.

I also tried the Dove’s Go Fresh Restore Body Wash in Blue Fig & Orange Blossom after seeing your tweet .. it smells wonderful. I didn’t get lots of lather, perhaps my water is ‘harder’.
