A Belated Mother’s Day Lunch

May 21st, 2013 by Karen 28 Comments

Buco Con Seta, Halo-Halo (a Filipino dessert that’s kinda like Hawaiian shave ice) served in a fresh, young coconut with ice cream

Just a few pics from my mom’s belated Mother’s Day lunch last Sunday at Patio Filipino restaurant in San Bruno.

OMG, the food was SO GOOD. I was too busy eating to take pictures of everything, which says a lot. I did manage to capture a few shots when I wasn’t busy shoveling food in my mouth, LOL!

Highly recommended for grubbing Filipino eats.

Sizzling Bangus Sisig, boneless shredded milkfish topped with spices

Adobong Kangkong, kangkong (water spinach) leaves blanched in viegar, soy sauce and garlic

Tilapia Crunch, crispy tilapia topped with diced tomatoes and green onions

My mommy!

Looks so good. It’s funny I made homemade adobo and stirfry buko last weekend for Mother’s Day. That tilapia is giving me hunger pains. Yum!

The food looks amazing! Is that yam flavoured ice-cream in the dessert?

Hope you and your Mom had a good mother’s day 🙂

      Hi Fieran,

Yes, it’s called ube ice cream, or taro. The dessert had it as the top layer, then there was a coconut jello, and then beneath it was the halo-halo. Once we were finished with all that, then we scooped out the fresh coconut. MAN, my tummy is rumbling now!

I’m half Filipino Karen and I grew up in the Philippines. I missed those dishes, we don’t have a Filipino restaurant here in Des Moines Iowa. The good news is, my mom and dad will be here this Thursday to visit and also for my wedding. My fave dishes are sisig, inihaw na bangus, HaloHalo, paksiw and Laing. Now I’m hungry.

Woah. The ice cream-coconut dessert is bigger than your mom’s head! She looks so happy — over the celebrations, or over the food? Her smile is infectious. 🙂

Karen – I love the food pics – Patio Filipino provided food for my wedding in Burlingame and our non-Filipino guests loved everything 🙂 So glad you got to try the restaurant

      Hi Kat,

Oh, that’s so cool! If I ever had to hire a caterer for a big event I’d definitely call them. What food did you get for your wedding?
