The King Blanket Costco Haul: A Blanket Fit for a King

November 5th, 2014 by Karen 37 Comments

Going to Costco to get just one thing is like trying to limit yourself to just one potato chip.

Hard.

I went to Costco the other night for one thing — one thing! Apples. That’s all I wanted. In and out.

My friend Marisol had mentioned that there were Honeycrisps there, which I LOVE, and you know how I’ve been on that apples and Babybel cheese kick…

So yeah, my plan was to head straight for the produce section, grab the apples, find the shortest line and boom, get out.

Two hours later…

Yup. In my defense, I had to check out the beauty section. I mean, it was kind of like research, and I did spot a few interesting things…

Ultimately, I only left with one thing from the beauty department, a big ol’ bottle of Amlactin Body Lotion (it contains AHAs), which a friend recommended for my feet and heels because they’re starting to look like worn out Brillo pads.

I did also get some apples (Fujis, though, because the Honeycrisps were too $$$), a huge sack of Babybels, some Christmas wrapping paper and gift tags, two take-and-bake mushroom pizzas (They’re organic with a corn meal crust. Pretty damned good.) and this kick-@ss king-size Calvin Klein blanket, which was only $17!

It’s super soft and plush… Tabs and I are already obsessed.

Have you been to Costco lately? When you go, what do you usually get?

So cute! What don’t I buy at Costco?! Pasta, trash bags, detergent pacs, pasta sauce, meat, fruit, butter, veggies, mozzarella balls (SO good)! I also use their pharmacy and auto care centers, and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Me and my husband LOVE Costco. There is one right by his work so we buy a lot of stuff from there. Coffee, chicken stock, canned tomatoes, paper towels, Neutrogena wipes. I will have to ask him to pick this blanket for me, it looks super soft!

      Hi Agata,

I hope you can find the blanket, it’s lovely! It comes in a few different neutral colors besides the green: beige, brown and dark blue. I’m actually thinking about going back for a couple more so I can give them as Christmas gifts.

Re: beauty. If you haven’t tried them yet, put the Kirkland Makeup Removing Towelettes on your list. They’re great, and super cheap!

I miss Costco/BJ’s. I moved to Istanbul recently and we had all of our furniture and belongings shipped with a container and Costco and BJ’s saved my life. I bought soo many things that they don’t have here in bulk (swiffer, cleaning products, peanut butter, shampoos, etc.) and I’ll be using them for a while. Once I run out, as I come to the U.S, I’ll have to bring back everything in luggages. I’m the typical American consumer and I’m struggling here! 🙂 Enjoy all your buys! BTW I love the Calvin Klein Blanket.

I just ran out of my Amlactin – which I love, love love! I had the same problem with Costco, which is why I let my membership lapse. Unfortunately I needed a new bed and a fridge, which I figured was worth the renewal fee. Costco will still come out ahead because they’ll get me on all of my impulse purchases over the next 12 months!

      Hi Michaelle,

I have quite a few friends who are addicted to Amlactin. I’m finally jumping on the bandwagon, LOL!

Wait… I didn’t know Costco sold beds! Seriously, you can get everything there.

Pasta, burgers, salmon, paper products, electronics, basically all kinds of different things. And I usually eat there when I go as they have really good cheap food.

      Hi Stacey,

So much good stuff at Costco! Do you ever shop the beauty section? It’s pretty great for things like lotions, body washes, etc. The Kirkland makeup wipes are fantastic!

Actually a couple of Costco runs ago I did pick up a large pack of cotton rounds to use with my eye makeup remover. Will definitely check out Kirkland’s makeup wipes next time I’m there.

Of late, the Giants World Series t-shirt to complete The Trilogy.

I try to avoid Costco because of the splurge factor which is not a huge as it used to be — their women’s clothing section has gone downhill!

But I need to get a flu shot and buy Christmas wrapping supplies. And now I have to check out that lotion cause the season of dry skin is upon me!

It would be nice of Tabs to let you use that King (Lawd amighty) cover!

      Hi Debra,

He’s already claimed it as his own, le sigh! I’m kind of stoked that he likes it so much… maybe he’ll be motivated to actually sleep with us on the bed through the night.

When you get your Christmas wrapping supplies keep an eye out for the gift tags. They are SUPER cute.

      Hi Shelley,

Isn’t it awesome? I got the last green one, yay! I’m thinking of going back to get a couple more as Christmas gifts. One can always use a good blanket.

What are your Costco staples, by the way?

Wow, getting a few more of those blankets as Christmas gifts is a brilliant idea. You’re always so helpful, Karen 😉

And my newest Costco staple will be that Tarina Tarantino eyeliner set if my local Costco carries it!

I set a goal to finish all my Christmas shopping by the end of the month. Hopefully I’ll reach it.

Oh, and if you find any good Costco presents let me know!

Those blankets are great and I use that lotion all year long. Just watch for any cuts on your legs…it stings. I usually get a lot of produce there and always coffee.

      Hi Lisa,

Noted. Tabs likes to swipe at my ankles sometimes (bad Tabby!), so I’ll keep the lotion away from those areas.

What coffee do you usually get?

We let our Costco membership lapse, but we talked about signing up again. Like everyone else here,me go in for one or two things and end up with $200 worth of stuff. Usually pajamas, socks, undies, slippers, Snapple, detergent, TP, contact lens solution…it never fails that something grabs my attention.

I always get stuff like TP, Papertowels and bottled water. I also buy Feta cheese, olive oil, pecans, almonds, craisins and a few other food things. As far as beauty – Dove soap, aveeno, vitamins and ibuprofen are probably the only things i pick up. I always look at the makeup and moisturizers, but rarely buy. I’ve never tried amlactin – my favorite foot (or any other rough skin) lotion is this one – it’s awesome http://www.footsmart.com/P-Total-Foot-Recovery-Tea-Tree-8oz-50483.aspx?lsku=50483%20000%2000%20000&SRCCODE=WMGOOGLE&cm_mmc=goog-_-PLA-_-WMGOOGLE-_-012813&gclid=CPXl3aqR5cECFUUV7AodmEMAnw&kwid=productads-plaid^92940455557-sku^50483+000+00+000-adType^PLA-device^c-adid^41429010277.

I love that place. I mostly go for bananas, milk, olive oil, eggs, yknow, the basics. But beyond the basics: I hoard Honest Shampoo and Body Wash (as body wash only, $14 for 2 17 oz pump bottles?! YES!), Venus 5 blades, Dove Winter Care Body Wash (alternate with the Honest), Amlactin as well.

    Hi Karen,

Costco is THE place to get Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum-Fragrance Free. 🙂 also, don’t wash that blanket! It starts to pill once you put it in the dryer. 🙁 my cats love the heated throw that Costco sells. I’m sure Tabs would love that too! much love from LA!

It will not surprise you that we don’t have a Costco so my trips there are few and far between. We have to rely on Sam’s Club, which is usually fine except I haven’t seen that awesome blanket there! Seriously, that sucker makes Tabs look tiny! 🙂

I’ve never heard of Amlactin. You’ll have to let us know if it works! My rough heel remedy is always a quick scrub with my EG foot smoother on dry feet (I never use it wet), then lotion.

I will! I have rough spots on my heels and on the ball of my foot (from wearing heels for years) and my friend says this lotion is supposed to work wonders for those bits. Baby soft feet, here I come. (I hope.)

Can I just say that Tabs is obsessed with that blanket? He’s sleeping on it right now as a matter of fact. 🙂

I usually get a bit on my heels and the outside of my big toes. I think it must be the way I walk/run because you know I avoid heels like the plague! 🙂

I can’t blame Tabs one bit. You can see the coziness of the material, even in the picture!

I heartily recommend Amlactin also. It’s good for those little bumps on the tricep area and ashy dry elbows. But do try their special foot formula. It’s even thicker for night time use. I order online since I rarely see the foot cream in stores.

And my kitties also love plush fleecy blankets. Watching TV with a plush blanket always attracts a kitty!

Thanks to this post I went and bought the exact same blanket today! I needed another to add to my collection and these seemed perfect. (Just so you know, you were right!) Otherwise, those Facial Towelettes are the best!! I have super sensitive skin to facial wipes and these are incredible without any reaction, and with that price, AWESOME.
