The Sisley-Paris Phyto-Lip Twists: These Beautiful Balms May Break the Bank

The Sisley-Paris Phyto-Lip Twists, $50 (!) each

Hmm…

These Sisley-Paris Phyto-Lip Twists are probably the fanciest, most expensive twist-up tinted lip balms I’ve ever seen!

Why is that?

Well…they’re $50 each.

Yeah, that’s a lot of tacos, son.

Sisley-Paris is a high end skin care and makeup brand (a la Chantecaille), and $50 for these is pretty typical of the line, but it still seems a little ridonkulous, doesn’t it?

Lip crayons with the texture of a balm, these are basically medium-coverage lipsticks with gloss-like shine and a highly moisturizing, plumping formula that’s very easy to wear.

Yup, they also contain plant-based plumping ingredients…although I’ve seen, like, no plumping action from them at all. But really, though, lip plumpers usually don’t do a lot of plumping for me. If I ever find a product that actually transforms my lips from stern piano teacher to billowy pillow, believe me, I will freaking let you know.

They’re available in nine unscented, unflavored shades (five of them pictured here) — 01 Nude, 02 Baby, 03 Peach, 04 Pinky, 05 Berry, 06 Cherry, 07 Coral, 08 Candy and 09 Chestnut.

Overlooking the Everest-caliber price, I think these are almost flawless. The crème de la crème of twist-up tinted lip balms. Extremely moisturizing, smooth, easy to apply and available in a nice range of colors.

Wear time isn’t bad, either, for what they are. I get about two hours.

On top of everything else, the sassy zebra packaging does a lot for my soul (I love me some animal prints! — which I didn’t fully realize until this year).

I think these are a wonderful product, but it’s hard to justify $50 for what’s essentially a medium-coverage tinted lip balm. If they were around $17 instead, like the Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms (or $9 for the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Sticks), I could see these belonging in all of my friends’ purses.

This may be crazy (it probably is), but for some reason $50 for an indulgent Tom Ford lipstick seems totally sane to me, but $50 for a moderately pigmented tinted lip balm seems like a stretch.

I dunno… Maybe I’ve just inhaled a little too much texturizing spray.

If you’re interested, the Sisley-Paris Phyto-Lip Twists are available now online and at Neiman Marcus stores.

“Sisley-Paris Phyto-Lip Twist is a tinted balm, colored like a lipstick and shiny like a gloss. It is applied with a single “twist” and leaves the lips supple, moisturized, visibly smoothed and plumped thanks to its cocktail of original plant-based active ingredients. Its ultra-sensory smooth glide-on texture reinvents lipstick.

“Its luminous, easy-to-wear shades match any occasion, from virtual nude to intense color. Fun and practical, this new XXL pencil does not need a sharpener.

“How to Use: Applied like a lipstick the tip is the perfect size for outlining and coloring the lips in a single stroke. Apply a single coat for a sheen of glossy color, or add more for a stronger, stunning flash of color.

“About Sisley-Paris: When Hubert d’Ornano founded Sisley-Paris in 1976, his use of botanical active ingredients and essential oils in beauty products was an innovative concept. Today, Sisley continues its tradition of pioneering new treatments with research from its own laboratories. The French collection features a full range of skin care, makeup, and fragrances.”

I agree that price is ridiculous. You can get good drugstore tinted lip balms for 1/4th of that price. I never brought a Tom Ford lipstick even though they look pretty $50 is too much Imo. Drugstores are pro ducting products that rival high end stores. Why pay so much extra unless it’s something you can’t find for a better price.

They look so pretty! I’ve been eyeing Sisley’s Phyto Lip Twists since I can remember… I think it’s the zebra print, lol.

They’re certainly pretty, but when I saw the $50 price tag for a lip crayon type product, I actually laughed haha. I’d rather spend that type of money on a super luxurious lipstick with packaging that’s make from… I don’t know… not plastic! I appreciate that you were able to review these for us so I wouldn’t impulsively buy them online anyway though lol

I can’t believe those are $50!?!?! They look like drugstore lip crayons!!! They could have at least tried to justify the price with some decent packaging right? (Something along the lines of the Hourglass nude lip stylo packaging?) It just looks so cheap for $50! Oh my.

Eh… I think it’s that moisturizing/tinted stuff like this is actually done pretty well on the low end. Or else you can macguyver it pretty easily, with practically any lip color you like + your favorite balm. A luxury full-coverage lipstick? It’s just not as easy to dupe!
There ya go. Justifying the Tom Ford purchases, lol!!

Whoa. $50 is a lot of dough for a lip crayon! I definitely think this is a stretch, at that point. $50 for a good foundation is justifiable to me but for a lip crayon…no way 😀

Cute but no way I would pay $50 for any of these. They don’t even look like they should cost so much. Looks like something you can find right at CVS. These companies are tripping lol
