Outfit of the Day: A Floaty, Flirty and Fun Pleated Skirt by Devlin

June 12th, 2014 by Karen 19 Comments

Kate Spade Baxter Jacket
A non-stretchy pants day

I was window shopping one day at Nordstrom when I spotted one of the sales associates wearing this black Devlin Pleated Skirt…

It looked so floaty and flirty and fun on her that I figured, even though it’s a little on the short side, why the hell not! — I should try it on because you never know, right?

The hem is a little shorter than I’m used to, but I “needed” (air quotes again) to treat myself to a running reward. (Have I mentioned that I straight-up have to bribe myself to exercise now? Hey, whatever works!) I ended up grabbing the last one in my size. 🙂

I like basic black pieces like this because you can do so much with them. In the top pic I dressed it up with some things from Kate Spade, Old Navy and Halogen that I had in my closet.

The skirt’s easy to dress down, too, by just skipping the jacket and swapping the shoes for something like the Sam Edelman Dana Sandal. Then just put your hair up in a messy bun to complete a casual summer look.

Outfit details

  • Skirt: Devlin Pleated Skirt, available now online at nordstrom.com in Seafoam. Your local store may also have it in black.
  • Jacket: Kate Spade Baxter Jacket, available now online at nordstrom.com.
  • White tee: Old Navy Women’s Sleaveless Tee, available now at oldnavy.com.
  • Purse: Kate Spade, no longer available (I haven’t seen it in a while), but Kate Spade’s Sedgewick Place Morgan has the same vibe.
  • Necklace: Pam Hiran Bib Necklace, no longer available, but the Seastone Necklace by Bauble Bar x Anthropologie one totally work.
  • Shoes: Halogen Katrina Bootie in Black Leather, available now at nordstrom.com.

In GoT news…

Dude! El Hub and I watched the second episode of season four last night (the one where the stuff goes down with Joffrey) and OMG! — we’ve been freaking out and discussing conspiracy theories all day.

Who did it!?

I can’t believe I let this show fall off my radar. It’s so good!

What have you been watching these days?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

You will find out who did it in an episode or two, and you will LOVE it!! I’ve read the books, so I was waiting waiting patiently (lol no) for that scene!

Also, I am dying for both looks up there! So fresh!

      Hi Becca!

OMG…I can’t take it. To quote Marc Anthony, “I need to know.” LOL!
I have a few guesses right now but all the theories seem workable. The suspense is driving me insane!

Also, I may have started cheering when all that stuff went down at the end of that episode. 😀

Do you have a favorite character from the show? I really want to have one, but I don’t want to get too attached to anybody, you know?

LOL! I take it you’re a shoe person? Me too!

These are really great! I bought them a while back at Nordies and they’re still available. They have ’em in lots of colors, too. If you look them up they’ve got about a gajillion reviews and they’re almost all positive.

      Hi friend!

GURL, I would do them more often if I wasn’t wearing stretchy pants and tee shirts 24/7. I’m trying to make an effort to dress a bit better…trying being the key word here, LOL.

What’s the plan for the weekend? Are ya working, or do you have it off? El Hub and I are headed north to visit his parents, so Tabs will be staying at home with his pet sitter.

I have a pair of Nine West shoes similar to these that I LOVE (with a sing songy voice)! The dressed down outfit is way cute and right up my alley. Except I don’t get that fancy. Because kids. And sticky little pudgy hands. I am watching The Glades lately and can not freaking stop. I’m a total who-dunnit fanatic and since Bones is done for the season I am happy to be solving murders with FDLE!

You look hot Karen! The shoes are killer too. I don’t like scary and demonic things before I go to bed, but Penny Dreadful is good, dreadful and very addictive.

It’s so hard to pick a favorite! I really like Sansa, although that’s not a popular opinion. She just grows and learns so much, it’s really fun to watch. I also may have given out a little whoop! when I watched that scene…so satisfying! Who are your faves?

Oooh! Well at least now I know she’s around for a least a little bit longer.

      My faves so far:

Tyrion — I enjoy his wit. I wonder what will happen to him and Sansa.
Arya — I like her edge. I feel like she has what it takes to survive in this world.
Daenerys — Every time I see her with the dragons I start singing Whitney Houston’s “I’m Every Woman.” If she doesn’t make it I will freak the eff out!!!

It’s really hard to stay neutral and not root for them. This show is so brutal that way!

Cute!! As a fellow vertically-challenged girl, high-waisted black skirts are practically my uniform this season — I think at last count, I owned like five of them >.< I don't look nearly this chic, though 😉

We literally just started watching GOT. We binge watched and got caught up in 12 days. There is a name for that, it’s called “Throning”. LOL.

Just wait, it gets CRAZY. I just read an article that said this Sunday’s season finale will be epic. I’m a big Daenerys fan, and I like Jon Snow.

I need to start dressing like a girl. I fall into a rut and wear the same thing, just a different color. It’s hard, I’m lazy and I like to be comfortable. Oh and I’m not that creative.

I love Game of thrones too! This second to last episode was the best ever! I’ve been watching season one of “Younger” and its really fun and binge-worthy! Happy belated b-day Karen!
