New Hair!

May 19th, 2015 by Karen 40 Comments

Ah… Fresh roots!

And fresh color.

Just what I needed before my birthday. 🙂

Back from the salon, and my hair’s a few shades lighter. My friend/stylist extraordinaire Alis at Fox + Stone salon in Corte Madera lightened up my dark chocolate brown base and made it warmer, and then painted in some lighter pieces. She also cleaned up the long layers and my bangs a bit but didn’t take much off, because I still want to keep growing out my hair (hey, it’s something to do).

If you ever want a change but don’t want a major cut, I highly suggest playing with color. It’s fun, and you have a lot of options.

I usually go to a salon now, because dude! — I wish I was talented enough to do something like this by myself with an at-home coloring kit. I know that it’s possible, because I meet people who do it all the time, but I learned the hard way that I’m not meant to color my own hair, because every time I’ve done it, I’ve done something wrong.

So now I leave it to the experts.

k-hair-june-2015

What I’m wearing…
Lips — MAC Matte Lipstick in Persistence (from the new The Matte Lip collection)
Cheeks — Dior Diorksin Nude Tan Tie Dye Edition in 002 Coral Sunset
Top — LOFT

When was the last time you did something with your hair color, and what did you do?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Wow, you look stunning! Your hair looks all healthy and bouncy!

I’ve colored my hair twice so far, both were disasters because I never bothered going back to the salon to maintain it. So I still have dual-toned black-at-the-top and red-brown-at-the-ends hair, not pretty 😀

Yay, I love your new hair! The color is really beautiful, and the cut looks great too. Your hair looks very bouncy and playful styled like this!
I badly need a haircut to get rid of my split ends but I confess that I hate going to the salon… I’ve had my share of terrible experiences. The last stylist I found was pretty good though, hopefully I’ll manage to have her do my hair again.
I’ve only colored my hair a handful of time, and always with semi-permanent, kind of sheer products. I did it at home a few times, it went ok but looked very flat. I also had an amazing color done by a colorist a few years back, I’d go back to that guy if he wasn’t in France!

      Hi Lulle,

Honestly I feel your pain. Before I found Alis I had many, MANY terrible salon experiences. She’s my hair soulmate, LOL! Hopefully you’ll be able to see the stylist who did your hair the last time around. If you can’t maybe check some reviews on yelp?

Hey, pretty girl! Your hair looks so fresh and ready for summer! I’m taking a personal day on my birthday and will use it for a hair refresh. I don’t color, but I like it trimmed every two months or so. I’ve waited since the first week of January this year because I should have listened to my stylist. I went too short and needed to let it grow!

So the last time I coloured my hair was with henna and it was last november I think and now I’m dying to do something with it. Any ideas? (remember I’m letting it grow)

Your new hair looks wonderful! I love it! I’m 2 weeks ’till my next color and cut – my roots look something awful. I’m looking for slight trim just to get off the icky ends (want to be long-ish for summer) and freshen up my color: a dark neutral to warm blonde with subtle highlights. Can’t wait and I hope I look half as awesome as you!!!

Cute! I love your side swept bangs! Salon color is so worth it. Sure, I can color my hair at home, but I never get ALL those pesky grays.

Oh, I love the new hair! It’s very bouncy-trouncy which I’m a fan of, since I almost always wish I had more volume. 🙂 I’m having my roots touched up tomorrow and definitely don’t do home color because I don’t like to look like a calico cat. HAHA!

A+ you look amazing with lighter hair. Did your stylist do balayage? I think it’s so nice that due to balayage folks with dark hair can now get highlights without it looking like tiger stripes/stripper hair.
    You look great

So pretty! Love the bounce. 🙂 And that cheek color is so lovely on you! The last two times I’ve colored my hair, I had my stylist weave in two different red shades underneath the top layer of my hair, so it would blend and grow out nicely. That was months ago, and since I’m a natural strawberry blonde it’s somehow still there in places! I’ll probably do it again in a month or two, I love the dimension I get.

Well, I stopped coloring my hair a year ago, does that count as doing something with your hair? Lol.
I really like the dimension highlights give you but my hair was so damaged after all the bleach and the pregnancy, I just had to give it a break…

I’ve actually never been professionally colored. Relatively new to the coloring game, is bit put off by the price and the time needed. But you look so smashing here, I’m tempted to try it.

Are you hitting the big four-o this year, Karen?

Love your hair! I always end up trying to grow mine out in the summer, then I get frustrated because it makes me so hot. But this year I’m sticking to it! I love your top, does it have a little embellishment on it? I’m on a search for white tops that have a little something to them, not plain old boring tops. I found a super cute white t shirt from LOFT with eyelet neckline.

      Hi Stephanie,

Thank you! Good luck growing out your hair. It takes some discipline but you can do it.

So, thanks for noticing the top! It’s one of my favorites. I got it from LOFT; it’s the Heart Vintage Broken In Shell, and yay! It’s currently on sale online for 40% off! Hopefully they have your size. I think you’ll love it. I wear mine all the time and get lots of compliments. The material is very soft, but not too thin. And I love how the hearts are sorta tiny and you have to look closely to see them. If you have any more questions about the top let me know!

Thank you for the link, I love that top. I put it in my basket, I just bought a bunch of stuff from LOFT over the weekend. I think my husband will think I’m nuts if I buy more so soon. Why is it that boys think we have enough clothes?

You’re so beautiful! You’re beautiful in every photograph you take, it’s amazing! And your new hair are really nice!

I’d like to make a “tie and dye” in some weeks, for my birthday. I hope it will be as beautiful as your hair!

    Kisses from France!
