1. Coloring
With colored pencils, and using said pencils to draw false lashes, questionable eyeshadow and winged liner on cartoon horses. ?
2. Retinol
I have a pimple on my chin.
It’s one of those *painful* ones with roots like an old oak tree, but instead of doing what I usually do with a pimple like this one — bombarding it with benzoyl peroxide — this time I showered it in Kate Somerville’s +Retinol Vita C Power Serum Firming + Brightening Treatment instead.
Soooo I may have overdone it a little, though, because the peeling around the area was intense for a minute, but dang, the retinol worked some serious magic. It pushed that pimple through the various annoying pimple phases quicker than benzoyl peroxide ever could, and a healing process that usually takes a month took about a week and a half.
OK, #teamretinol, I totally get it now.
3. “When Will My Life Begin”
Connor is going through a Disney princess phase at the moment, and this song from Tangled sung by the adorable Mandy Moore (LOVE HER) sticks in my head for a loooong time every time I hear it.
4. Alexx Mayo (Lizzo’s makeup artist)
He does my favorite flute player’s makeup for her videos and performances, and I’m so inspired by how he plays with color!
5. Flounder Milanese with arugula and tomatoes
I made a version of this recipe from Gina over at Skinnytaste last week by substituting some items with things I had in my fridge (tilapia for the flounder, spinach for the arugula, and a gluten-free version of breadcrumbs), and everyone gobbled it down with a quickness. Not a crumb was left behind!
Seriously, add this to your weeknight rotation ASAP.
That’s what I’ve been loving lately. How about you?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Lizzo’s makeup is always so pretty! I need to start using some colorful eyeshadows before summer is over. Yum that fish looks amazing! Now my mouth is watering and it’s only 9:30 AM!
Karen says
It’s REALLY easy to make, too. Sometimes I find the Skinnytaste time estimates for recipes waaaay off but I was able to get this one on the table quickly. I think you’ll love it! I served it with a side dish made of white corn with garlic, halved heirloom tomatoes and basil.

Gah! Even a picture of a cartoon horse sends me down the “I want another horse” hole. Seriously thinking I can probably live without another cat in my house (clawed furniture, dander, cat hair vacuuming, asthma) but I really miss riding and grooming horses.
I have one of those hard, red, under the skin zits right now and I’ve been bombarding with everything in my arsenal. Of course, I don’t have any retinol. Going to check out the Kate Somerville product ASAP.
That fish looks scrumptious! Dear Husband and I have been watching the PBS show “The Story of India” and it gave me a craving. So last night I made Indian-ish for dinner. Chicken in a curry gravy, roasted cauliflower with spices and okra masala.

We have a horse farm right down the street from us (about 10-ish minutes away) here in Novato. When we were looking 10 years ago we saw a house that was a two minute walk away from it, and I still think about that house to this day. I would’ve loved to have seen the horses every day!
If you decide to adopt another one, you’ll have to send me pictures!
The Kate Somerville product also has vitamin C (which I’m a huge fan of). I’ve always had trouble being consistent with retinol (because of the intense peeling) and while this does a great up job of exfoliating it does it in a way that I can handle. Sephora VIB sale is happening right now… I’m just saying.
OK, I need to know if you use a specific brand of curry? I tried making chicken curry about a year ago and it was such a fail. NO flavor whatsoever.
Tatiana says
Adopt a horse, I wish. In this area, it’s either buy or lease or ride a school horse. I will probably start by riding school horses again. I doubt very much if I can convince Dear Husband to shell out for another horse. It’s gonna take a lot of work just to convince him to lease one. To be honest I’m still not over Lucy, she was such a perfect fit for us.
Yeah, I was thinking Sephora sale for the KS, too. I need more Goat Milk cleanser too. I have a ton of cleansers but I always go back to her Goat Milk.
I think I remember that chicken curry recipe. You posted about it. If you send me the link I can trouble shoot it and rewrite it for you. Unless I’m in a hurry, I usually don’t use a tinned curry powder, but mix up my own from garlic, onion, shallot, ginger, peppers and spices. A lot of work, but I love all the chopping and grinding. Unfortunately, today my finger tips are yellow and I wanted to polish my nails today. Guess I’m not wearing anything light colored.

Five things I’ve been loving lately! Hmmmm, the kids being back in school, I have an 8th and 12th grader. Two graduations in June, ACK! But they’re loving school, so yay!
Holo nail polish, I know it’s not as popular as flakies, but holo rules my life right now!
Motown music, I have figured out it’s physically impossible to not dance to music that has a tambourine in it. Trust me.
Low cost, big payoff, skincare brands The Ordinary and The Inkey List. Super high quality and I can still afford to feed my family!
Pug puppies! I have three pugs, they’re my babies! Our current pup is 8 months old and a turd, but he’s so cute he can get away with it. I found out two days ago that he has four 3-week old full siblings. My husband isn’t interested in another dog, but I can’t stop thinking about them. I’m taking the kids to go look at the puppies this weekend, if there’s a girl, I’m putting down a deposit. So I’m nuts, but I don’t care. #puglife

Hey Stephanie!
Would love to know what your go-tos are for The Inkey List and The Ordinary. (I have a few things on my wish list and could always use more, ha!)

Holo is beautiful! I like flakies too every now and then but they’re harder to remove.

I’ve been enjoying the Vichy skincare line lately. I saw a video that recommended the line for menopausal skin.
Anyway, when Zack was younger, he loved Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends. We watched the videos, read the books and had (and still have) most of the trains. When he lost interest in Thomas, Bruce and I were devastated. We became so attached to the series. They grow up so fast!
Having a moment. Be well!

So, I’m sure you noticed this but the princess warrior in your picture (who I’m going to assume is Connor) has cat ears. 🙂 You know I’m Team Retinol with you. The only thing I tout more is Ebates (now Rakuten). HAHA! You have to have the right skin tone to pull off yellow and, boy, does she! I really like that look. I also thank you for pushing me to think of things I’ve been loving lately. It’s a bit of a rough patch so I’m glad to be encouraged to think positive things!
– walking in the evenings with my besties
– driving to Lake Placid once a week
– watching one of the fellas play hockey a few months early (my absolute fave)
– the nice weather we’ve been having
– having all the nephews home for the summer (though that has ended this week)

Lizzo is always slaying it with looks, I’m not a current hip hop fan but I’m hear/here for it.
1. Harmless coconut water. These last few months have been a literal and figurative shit show on my health. These things keep me out of the hospital for hydration bags.
2. Trader Joe’s small lot coffee’s! I don’t drink a lot of coffee but I’m always appreciative of something new and special.
3. WholeFoods/Amazon meal kits! They don’t always have ones I can eat BUT I can say they get us out of a funk, my husband is starting to learn to cook from them AND we do it together!
4. Weleda Skin Food Lip Balm! Saved my lips this summer!
5. Olly Sleep Gummies. I’ve never had a melatonin product work like this. The only ones that seemed to work for me were ones with tryptophan. Problem is too much of it or 5 htp or whatever it is, is horrible for anxiety. These do nothing to turn my mind off but they do relax me and my body. Worth the price.
