7 Ways to Win a $50 eGift Card From Sephora! (Ends Monday)

December 7th, 2013 by Karen 481 Comments

A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway
A Makeup and Beauty Blog Giveaway

OH! I’m watching one of Rick Steve’s travel programs for Paris on PBS as I type this (he was just at the Musee Rodin) and would so LOVE to be sipping my hot coffee at a Parisian cafe…

That would be nice. 🙂

Rise and shine, morning glory! It’s going to be a beautiful day. I hope you have something nice lined up, or at least don’t have a ton of chores to do today. I should do a little cleaning and finish decorating the tree…but I really don’t want to. I’d rather futz around and play.

Have a wonderful weekend, OK? If I keep watching this program, I’m never gonna get anything productive done, so I’d better hop to it. The treadmill is calling my name… “Karen!? Aren’t you going to run on me?? You’re supposed to run on me today!!”

Haha! I made myself laugh.

I do have paintings on my wall. I go every fall and spring to a local yet famous art school and they have their artists in residence do an auction for 3 Fridays every Fall and Spring. It used to be a lot cheaper to buy before they started putting the auctions online where anyone in the world could buy. No mtter, I bought in the earlier years (about 10 years ago) some gorgeous works for less than 200 bucks.

I remembering reading that Musee Rodin cafe tip in Rick Steve’s Paris guidebook, but unfortunately decided to skip it. Oh well, maybe the next time I’m in Paris…

Favorite blush? Well, let’s see. Up until yesterday, it was Cinnamon by NYX. It is gaw-geous up against my brown skin. It’s kinda a dupe for Tangerine by MUFE. BUT, then yesterday happened.

I was just stopping by the MAC counter for a brush to purchase & add to my collection. Then, I did it. I stopped to “play” in the blushes. Most notably, MAC Raisin. So many YT makeup gurus swear by it’s effect on brown skinned beauties. One swap and I was SOLD. Which is what I said to the sales rep. It made an immediate difference on my everyday makeup look. And that’s what I love about it. It’s a blush that I can wear everyday with any color lipstick or outfit. And for reference, I was rocking MAC Lickable (stunning cream sheen fusia) and the blush complimented it so well. And for that reason, MAC Raisin is my FAVE blush ☺️

I have a few different paintings on my walls! I am proud to say that I painted them all myself. One is my monogram, with each letter on a different canvas with a patter, and one with a scripture on the other. They are my favorite decorations because I made them 🙂

I don’t know what the most beautiful bottle of perfume I’ve ever seen is, but I am definitely a sucker for their packaging. Even if I loved the scent, if the bottle was awful I don’t think I could have it out on my perfume display. And there may be a couple I own simply because they are so beautiful!

When you asked about a museum, it reminded me of a trip I took to Sarasota Florida. I was just walking around in between meetings, it was the first time I had been there. And there was a beautiful old mansion that was being restored, in walking distance of my hotel and you could tour through it, and there was a museum on the grounds also. It turned out to be the home the first Great Gatsby movie was filmed in and the museum had items from Ringling Bros. and Barnum Bailey Circus and owners. I had no idea at the time, as they were restoring it. I found all of this out after I got back home and looked it up. It was a gorgeous museum where you could sit on benches and not just the artwork, but also the marble and woodworking of the building. I may not have all of it exactly right, it was years ago so anyone who lives there, please correct me. There was also a beautiful Christmas display. So it is very much worth the tour. If you are near there, it was worth a visit. I love to walk around towns I visit and find out of the way things. Hope to tour it again some day.

I went to a museum called Winterthur in Delaware – it’s the former home of Henry Francis DuPont, and though there are amazing things to see inside, the grounds are free to walk on and are absolutely gorgeous. It’s my absolute favorite. In the spring it’s filled with cherry blossom trees and greenery everywhere. I went several times this spring/summer actually. It’s such a beautiful, quiet serene setting.

How do you say “beautiful” in your first language? – BEAUTIFUL!
Most beautiful bottle of perfume you’ve ever seen? – Apart from the vintage glass from various vanities in timeless classic films, I’d have to say the Jean-Paul Gaultier perfume bottles shaped like a woman’s torso. So breathtaking!
Who makes your favorite blush/bronzer? – Tarte blushes (all), Too Faced bronzer, Buxom powder blush, Nyx stick blush!
Do you have any strange and unusual talents? – I can adjust and test ski bindings, and many other ski and snowboard-related skills! I guess that’s not that weird, but still, not tons of women are ski technicians 😛 Also, I’m really good at accents. Some people say they are, but I actually am (and therein lies the paradox, lol!)

Unfortunately, I became ill and am unable to work any longer. This makes me extremely unhappy as I loved my job! I am now in a wheelchair, but still love beautiful things! And that includes beauty outside AND inside! 😀

What’s your favorite part about the holidays? There’s a neighborhood across from mine that displays lights on their houses every year. It’s always attracted a bunch of visitors. My brother and I walked from our place last year to see them, which is a far better experience than viewing it from inside your car. The effort these people make to put this together always puts a smile on my face.

I have this painting on my wall from my acrylic painting classes several years ago. 🙂 I’m quite proud of it even though it’s not an original. I copied it from a photo of a green bottle laying on its side in the sand on the beach. I’m particularly proud of how I painstakingly painted the sand. It actually looks real!

I got two more weeks before we go on holidays at work (2 full weeks off, woohoo!) and I can’t wait. Your niece Scherbie wants to say hi. “MREOOOWWW.”

The last time I went to a museum was last Spring. I went to the Nasher Art Museum at Duke University to see Wangechi Mutu’s work. It was brilliant! I still catch myself thinking back to it.

The last time I went to a museum was in October to see an exhibit at the MFA called She Who Tells a Story: Women Photographers from Iran and the Arab World. The exhibit was quite beautiful, moving and thought provoking.

Fave blush is the Hourglass Ambient Light powder in Mood Light. Just a hint of pink on my fair skin give a hint of colour. When I want a little more colour punch, I add a bit of pink from an Urban Decay palate I got as a gift, which also includes a matte bronzer and a highlighter. Great palate!
