7 Ways to Win a $50 eGift Card From Sephora! (Ends Monday)

August 30th, 2014 by Karen 304 Comments

A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway
A Sephora giveaway on Makeup and Beauty Blog

“Let her play with Lego, for crying out loud!”

I’m sitting here on the couch with the laptop watching Extreme Guide to Parenting, and I just heard El Hub yell that from the other room.

And he’s not even watching the show. He’s just eavesdropping, LOL!

Rise and shine, pal o’ mine! It’s caturday! 🙂 Do you know where your husky tabby is?

The one who manages this office is disgruntled and pacing around the house because he wants to go outside. There are these crows who are sort of casing the joint. They’re sitting in the closest tree branches, cawing at the top of their crow lungs, and it’s p*ssing Tabs off. He’s like, “Dammit! Those effing birds!”

Poor kitty…

In other news, it’s giveaway time. Good luck to you. I hope you have a great weekend, too. El Hub and I are talking about going kayaking again on the Russian River tomorrow, but we’ll see. We have a couple other things to do. One of them, actually, involves something special for the cat enthusiasts tomorrow afternoon, so if you have a kitty (or two or 12), be sure to check back tomorrow.

Happy Saturday Karen! I braided my own hair yesterday, lol. I went to a brand new Ulta store last night and it was fantastic, all the product testers were untouched and clean and everything was so neat and nicely organized! I could live there!

I love braiding friends’ hair. I find it much more difficult to do on myself, though! I actually had a Bumble & Bumble Stylist do an awesome braid on me at the most recent VIB Rouge event. I took about a thousand pictures of it, but I don’t think I could ever recreate it.

Hey Karen, I hope you’re having a great day. I once had really thin eyebrows when I was 16 (I’m 22 now). I saw a girl once rocking a pixie cut and very thin eyebrows and I wanted to be like her! haha
But luckily I realised that that look was not pretty on me and now everything has grown out. Im sure a lot of girls did something crazy like that when teenagers, but I don’t regret it.
At least now I know that it doesn’t work for me hahaha

Once I got my eyebrows waxed shortly before graduating with my Bachelor’s and the woman /really/ butchered mine and a friend’s eyebrows. We both have dark hair and we’re Italian-American and love our full-arch eyebrows so it was a horrible experience, haha. Fortunately we’re both professional hair-growing machines so they came back no problem.

A few weeks ago, I bought a warm, medium blonde hair dye to dye my brownish-blonde hair. But rather than making my hair more blonde, the dye turned my hair a reddish-orange brown color! But it actually looks good, so I didn’t redye my hair! 🙂

What was your favorite toy or game growing up?
I used to have this thing called a tamagatchi? Yeah, it wasn’t exactly a toy, but my friends and I were obsessed with collecting different colors.
Have you ever braided someone else’s hair?
I have! I regularly braid my baby cousins’ hair when I visit, it’s a bonding experience.
Have you ever had super skinny, thin brows?
Have I ever had, or do I have, is what I think you mean. Oh Lord, my poor eyebrows were over plucked, over trimmed, and over shaved when I was younger and they ended up being ghastly thin. Thankfully, they grew back out each time, so they are somewhat back to their normal state.
When was the last time you wore false lashes?
I was at this party with a friend, and I tried these things called Accents. They were the very end of the lashes, and made it appear as if my lashes started out somewhat long, to having a butterfly effect.
Do you currently dye your hair?
No, I have been going natural for the past four months. So it’s just me and my kink.
Do you put mascara on your bottom lashes?
Yeah, oddly enough. I use Benefit’s Mascara for the bottom.

I’ve dyed my hair since the age of 17 (for fun) and since 27 or 28 (out of necessity…damn premature greys!). My brows have always been super light and sparse, but I pencil them in thicker since I think skinny brows look stupid on me. And, yes, I always put mascara on my bottom lashes (or it looks like I don’t have any–see super light and sparse brows…ditto lashes!).

In high school and early college, I overplucked my brows and regretted it! Luckily, they grew back nice and full and I barely maintain them now.
I sometimes wear bottom lash mascara, usually with full-face “done” makeup. But only on the lashes in the outer corner!

I then discovered QVC and Anastasia Beverly Hills was selling her brow powder that came in a kit for $60 bucks! What was your favorite toy or game growing up? I had a few…I went through phases but most of them were video games starting with the original Nintendo with those cartredges you blew into if they stopped working ( but apparently weren’t supposed to) then gameboy, Xbox, GameCube, Wii…come to think of it I don’t think much changed since my hubby is still into those new systems so I think we have most of them now (he had ps3 and Xbox360…and we got him Xbox1 last Christmas. My favorite as a child was probably those darn cartridge games though.

Have you ever braided someone else’s hair? Sure. I find it easier to do someone else’s than my own.

Have you ever had super skinny, thin brows? Ughhhh…yes…I hate looking at those pictures. I was the heaviest I’d ever been at the time in high school and I overtweezed my brows too thin which I think just made my face even chubbier. Never again!

I never had thin eyebrows, and only recently had my eyebrows threaded for the first time ( first time for anything like that). I’m glad I didn’t as many seem to had trouble with their brows due to over plucking.

Quick Karen, get Tabs into a pet carrier and on the first plane to Japan! Pizza Hut in Japan have announced a new Pizza Hut, run totally by cats:

And go to Pizza Hut Japan’s Youtube channel to watch all the videos.

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzSLczs5ecylqP0Ho2zwGqw

Now Tabs can get a real job! LOL

You should at least make him watch the videos. It’d be interesting to see how another cat reacts to them!

PS: Hint, hint – I’m coming over to the US (Hawaii) next month (I’m from Australia) and I’ll be going mad in Sephora, so the gift card would come in really handy!

When I played a “who in whoville” in “Seussical the Musical” last year I wore bright green and yellow false eyelashes for all five performances and two dress rehearsals! I even came out the stage door wearing them because I thought they brought out my green eyes. I think I misinterpreted confused looks for admiration. Maybe next time I’ll stick to classic black.

    I’m loving the questions, Karen!

What was your favorite toy or game growing up?
When I was a kid, I was OBSESSED with Barbies. Each occasion I’d get, I’d ask for a Barbie (Christmas, birtday, etc…) or something Barbie related. I’d create little props out of paper and cardboard, I’d make dresses using toilet paper and markers, I’d make up the most elaborate and soapy stories… You couldn’t tear me away from my Barbies. I played with them until I was like 12 or 13 and already in secondary school.

Have you ever braided someone else’s hair?
I find braiding very calming, so I’ve braided the hair of many others (male and female friends, my sister, my cousin,…). 🙂

Have you ever had super skinny, thin brows?
I have quite full brows naturally and my mom’s always complimented me on them, so I’ve never felt the need to pluck ’em.

When was the last time you wore false lashes?
Waaaaaay too long ago. That’s because I utterly fail at applying full lashes.

Do you currently dye your hair?
I’ve dyed it with henna some time ago, but

Do you put mascara on your bottom lashes?

I’ve dyed it with henna some time ago, but it just won’t stick on my hair. It fades almost immediately. :/

I thought it’d be perfect to try out some Game of Thrones-esque braids, so I got out my laptop and set off to work. Many of them ended up being very pretty, but working with hair that is almost as long as the person who owns it was quite the challenge!

I last wore false eyelashes for my cousin’s wedding. I was a bridesmaid and we all had our hair and makeup professionally done, lashes were a little extra but so worth it! I wore a full strip, very subtle though and it blended beautifully with our own lashes. I usually use the individual lash clusters from Ardell but the full lash was a nice change.

I used to dye my hair all the time. In fact, I started bleaching it in my teens and never really stopped. The color might change a bit and at one point I switched from solid color to highlights, but it was always artificial.

About 4 years ago I decided to change that. It took a few rounds of “fill in” highlights and lowlights, but I was able to discover what my actual hair color was. You know what? I kinda liked it.

As a kid I was a natural blonde, and now I am too – sort of. My base color is a very dark blonde, but there is SO MUCH WHITE scattered through it that it ends up being pretty light, almost as though I were still highlighting it – but without the huge cost or time investment.

I know it sounds pretty granola, but these days I do nothing to my hair except wash it and get regular cuts, and I think it looks as good if not better than it did when I put more effort in. Go figure!

I also don’t bother putting mascara on my bottom lashes. I don’t put much of anything on my bottom lid, for that matter. I find that it makes me look kind of squinty, unless it’s a really light highlighter sort of shade!

I used to put mascara on my bottom lashes but i dont anymore and i have never applied false lashes on my own, only wore them for my wedding which was applied by my makeup artist

I haven’t dyed my hair in a long time, but I’m itching to! I want a nice cool-toned dark brown hair. My hair is naturally a medium brown, but with lots of yellow tones and I don’t like that.

I’ve never had super skinny brows because I have naturally THICK, dark eyebrows. I used to hate them but now full, dark brows are in!

Growing up, I have to say my favorite toy was Barbie. I owned just about every Barbie imaginable: Bead Blast Barbie, Workin’ Out Barbie, Twirling Ballerina Barbie — you name her, I probably had her. And since I’m a 90s baby, Britney Spears, Mary-Kate and Ashley, Cher and Dionne from Clueless and all five Spice Girls were also part of my never-ending doll collection. Love your blog by the way!

I try to remember to put mascara on my bottom lashes before I do the top lashes so I don’t get mascara up to my brow bone when I look up to do the bottom lashes. If I forget to do them first I typically don’t bother or wait till my top lashes dry to avoid the hassle

I have had to dye my hair back to its original blue black since I was 30. My mom died Mother’s Day 1994 and I woke up with gray hair on both temples.

I like to put mascara on my bottom lashes but never do when I go to work as it would smear. When I do remember I love L’oreall voluminous waterproof mascara so it won’t smudge

Happy Monday Karen and Tabs!! I do not wear mascara on my bottom lashes at all. My lashes (both top and bottom) are so long that if I try to wear mascara on the bottom, they look as long as the top ones do. I’m not complaining about my long lashes though!!

I actually just dyed my hair for the first time ever a little over a week ago. Nothing too different, just went for a darker brown but I like it!

Love putting mascara on my lower lashes especially if I’m doing a smokey eye!

I wore false lashes about a month ago to a wedding, and I most definitely put mascara on my bottom lashes. I feel like my eye look just doesn’t look complete with it.
