7 Ways to Win a $50 eGift Card From Sephora! (Ends Monday)

September 6th, 2014 by Karen 348 Comments

A Sephora giveaway on Makeup and Beauty Blog

Up, up, up, babe! It’s time to get up! Happy caturday. 🙂

In seemingly random news, today is my cross-training day.

See, I’ve been “training” for a half marathon (quotes because I’m still finding my rhythm), which is in about five weeks, and the plan I’m following calls for doing something different every day of the week, like, some days I’m supposed to run just a few miles at a slower-than-normal pace, some days are rest days, and then once a week I’m supposed to push myself a little harder with a slightly longer run (that was yesterday for me…so I’m a little tired).

Today is the day I’m supposed to cross-train, which means doing something other than running, like bicycle riding, walking or doing…I haven’t quite figured out what to do yet. The idea is to keep from overtraining and injuring the same muscles I use while running, but I don’t know what activity to do. I mean, after five minutes of push-ups, my arms are burnt toast, so that’s not much of a workout, and I don’t have an exercise bike or a gym membership.

Hmm… Maybe I’ll bust out a Jillian Michaels DVD (after I have three cups of coffee, LOL!).

Enter to win treats for your catWhat are you up to this weekend? Doing anything fun? I haven’t thought very far ahead yet, so I’m kind of winging it… I did want to mention that in addition to this weekend’s Sephora giveaway right here, that other giveaway for the Purina Pro Plan cat snacks (and other swag, including a giant refrigerator magnet frame, tote bag, food bowl and autographed picture of Tabs), is still open for new entries until Wednesday, September 10, and there haven’t been that many entries yet, so your cat’s chances of winning are pretty great. And you can enter in five ways. Once on Twitter, once on Facebook, once on Pinterest, once on Instagram and once in a comment on the giveaway post.

I’m just saying…if your cat likes those treats half as much as Tabs does, you’ll make him/her pretty happy.

Now I’d better go get started on that caffeine I mentioned if I’m going to have a successful cross-training day, whatever that means, haha. If you have any cross-training workout ideas for me, let me know.

They have a few scents, but I always come back to the purple one, Luscious Orchid, which has jojoba in it. It smells amazing, feels amazing and gets along with my über-sensitive skin!

    OOH! Naked Palettes! 😀

    1. What time do you usually go to bed?

Usually around midnight or so, unless I’ve been working, and then it’s usually a good couple of hours earlier.

    2. Have you ever had a polydactyl cat?

No, but I’ve been to the Hemingway house and had one sit on my lap!

    3. What’s your current favorite drugstore product (makeup, and also non-makeup)?

Anything by NYX! I do also love Cake Beauty’s body washes (particularly the lemon one).

    4. Have you ever touched an elephant?

    No, unfortunately. 🙁

    5. Can you do the splits?

Accidentally! I’m hypermobile (my joints are a bit more flexible than normal), but splits are not exactly in my repertoire.

    6. Tell me about your outfit yesterday (makeup, hair, clothes).

I wore jean shorts, a black tank top and a black and white plaid over-shirt! For shoes I wore my black Birkenstocks. Hair and makeup wise, nothing too special (I’m a wash and wear girl – that and my makeup skills need some refining): normal hair and a little bit of Sephora lipstick (N9 – Copper Pink).

Well, Karen, I never ever go to bed early. Nope, not even when I have to be up by 3AM for work. I have zero discipline when it comes to sleep, apparently, and I should honestly change that now that I’ve reached the big three-oh. I’ve never touched an elephant. But once, when I was seven, I slipped on the edge of the rug with a glass of water on my hand. Twas a perfect slip — the water didn’t even move.

Current favorite drugs store makeup product? Definitely Vaseline rosy lips- it smells SO pretty and it stays on SO long. My lips have been drying out a whole lot recently and I have so many lip balms I use at night (Lush, Malin and Goetz, L’Occitane, EOS, Burts Bees, different face oils, and on and on and on) and they’re all great but literally none of them last as long as this one. All night, man. And it’s pink to boot, so it’s pretty.

Current favorite non-makeup drug store product? Johnson and Johnson Melt Away Stress Body Lotion. A friend got me a travel size for a trip to Europe a while back so the smell has happy memories, plus it moisturizes really well.

Yesterdays outfit was black leggings, my fave suede light grey Nike, white sweater with a V-shaped décolleté, hair was just down all over the place, nothing special.
Now the makeup was something special – golden lid with INGLOT eyeshadow, Savage in the outer V, Slowburn as a light gradient through the socket of the eye (both UD “Electric palette”), AVON navy blue eyeliner both on top and on 1/3rd of the lower lid, also on the lower lid was a little bit of Fringe from UD as a gradient. All that topped up with generous coat of Perversion mascara. Blush was a light mix of Savage and sloburn and on my lips I had a true orange lippie from INGLOT with a pink, no shimmer, lipgloss on top (again from INGLOT) to create the illusion of a coral color (funnily enough I don’t own coral color lipgloss among the huge amount of lip products I have :D).
Sooo that’s about it 😀 Sry for the long post!

I wore tracky pants, a huge T shirt from Mt Vernon (George Washington’s home), a huge hoodie from the Empire State Building, cosy socks and slippers.

My hair was tied back off my face and I had a snuggle rug over my legs, covered in cats (real cats).

When I was little, an elephant stole my ice cream… it’s trunk brushed my hand… At the zoo an elephant touched me!

    5. Can you do the splits?

    6. Tell me about your outfit yesterday (makeup, hair, clothes).

I wore a red and black leopard dress, with black nail polish (camelot by A England) and matte burgundy lime crime lipstick and beautiful black sandals I found in LA during my beautiful holidays… I spent my evening taking part in a murder party!

    Have a lovely sunday!

There’s this thing in my country that’s called “Hardcore”. It’s a fitness thing that’s probably designed to kill you if you don’t die of humiliation first. Things you may have to do- sprint up a 50 deg incline, roll down the next side, swim though a muddy pool (dunk your head in as well and do a doggy shake), take a plunge in the freezing sea, come back out then roll around in the sand until completely covered,, scale a coconut tree without any safety gear… all while paparazzi document your lifelong struggles.
    Are you interested? 😀

Hooray for halfs!! They’re so great. A good challenge distance, very approachable, and pretty wing-able. I’m actually doing once this Saturday! Except that ever since my marathon in mid-July I still haven’t run more than 4 miles (the marathon killed my knees and hips) so we’ll see how it goes. Increasing too quickly and with too much intensity not recommended! As for cross-training, I see you don’t have a gym membership but is there a pool where you could swim laps? Hiking is also a fantastic complement to running if there are trails anywhere near you. A rigorous bike ride around the neighborhood works if you have a bicycle, or if you’re into yoga that counts! Yoga was mine during my marathon training; stretching is so important for runners, and you get the strength component too! Good luck, you can do it!!! I was actually going to post some marathon-inspired nail art soon plus my favorite running songs, I’ll have to let you know so you can get your jam list going <3

How awesome that you’re doing a half-marathon, Karen! I should consider doing one at least once in my life, but I can barely haul my butt out for a daily run around my neighborhood. I do, however, move around a lot everyday (including hour-long walks), and enjoy using Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day DVD! I exercise just to get moving, maintain my health, and she’s the best for that.

For the first time in a month, I have a quiet Sunday to myself! I have time to answer all those babies:
    1) I hit the bed around 11 p.m., but I don’t go to bed until 12:30 a.m. I’m trying to wean myself off of using my phone so late at night! 🙁
    2) I have never had my own cat boss, let alone a polydactyl cat. I really, really, need a Tabs in my life. Those walks I mentioned earlier? I’ve become acquainted with at least four neighborhood cats!
    3) My current favorite drugstore product is good ole Aquaphor. It’s pure wizardry for dry elbows and KP-inflicted skin.
    4) Yes, I have not only touched an elephant, I have ridden on one at the zoo. They are wonderful creatures.
    5) I can’t do proper splits.
    6) Yesterday was an errand-running day, so I just threw on a top, denim shorts, trusty sandal flip-flops, and a baseball hat. No makeup applied! Gotta let my skin breathe.

    Happy Sunday, Karen, Tabs, everyone!

It’s the only drugstore mascara to compete with high end brands as far as I’m concerned (for my stubborn shortish lashes!).

Favorite drugstore makeup item? NYC face compact powder in translucent. I use to use it in high school (many lunar cycles ago) and I recently rediscovered it. Now I remember why I liked it! For a translucent powder its neither too white cast and too beige.

Non makeup item, Walgreens candy. Um, have you tried the gummy peach candy? Why is it 10x more amazing than those over priced candy stores. They are tender, peachy and under 3 bucks.

My favorite Drugstore makeup line is Millani hands down. Their line has everything anyone could ever need to make a plain gal look Bella Beautiful, and the best thing about Millani, beside its price, is it’s made with great ingredients. It stays where you put it whether on your eyes, lips or mascara,it doesn’t harm your skin and the colors are WOW! Seering the new line makes you want to buy all of it.
So my advise is get to your nearest Drugstore and fill your cart with everything Millani has to offer, then everytime you step out, all the other gals will be wowed and want to know where you got those lucious colors. Men will give you a 2nd look so just smile and know your look made not only you feel right, but in the end made your night!

I sleep the most bizarre hours! I’m a night nurse and really just try to sleep when I’m tired. I’m also a reformed Chapstick addict. I need color under those awful flourescent lights, so I’m currently loving NYX Butter Balms.

I have touched an elephant and rode one at a fair once. Not a very comfortable ride. I have two cats, Merlin is a 22 year old Siamese, Angel is unknown age Black and White. She showed up at my window one night on a _30 below snow storm. We’ve loved her for 15 years now. We have one dog Snicker Doodles, and sadly my son just lost his companion of 15 years Scrappy Doo. When my eldest son was wounded in Iraq, Scrappy Doo was his side kick while I was away at my other sons side.

I’m a day late and a dollar short (actually 2) on suggestions for cross-train day but I think a strength training DVD is perfect. I have a Power 90 (not P90X, the lighter version) that’s great for that. Lots of push-ups, ab work and hand weights. They have cheaper used versions: http://www.amazon.com/Power-90-Horton-In-Home-Transformation/dp/B0007D6V8U

Hiking is a good option, too. We did my favorite 3500 footer on Sunday for our first fall hike. Definitely a good workout. 🙂

    Hi Karen!
I have never trained for any type of marathon so good luck!
I go to bed around 10:30.
    Never touch an elephant.
Yes, i did the splits in Feb without warming up and pulled a muscle deep in my butt cheek. It still hurts if i sit too long. Splits are overrated.
Yesterday, i wore a really cute black dress from Cotton On. Hugged my curves and has a deep V neck. Only $25 and got the other color in grey too.

I had fun with my makeup/outfit yesterday because we went to a nice restaurant for my friend’s birthday! I used Pur Minerals dark spot correcting primer, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12HR foundation, Kat Von D Tattoo concealer, Mac Pro Longwear concealer, MAC Melba blush, Milani Sunset Baked Bronzer, Benefit Gimme Brow, MAC Global Glow MSF, and for eyes- Jordana Continuous Almond pencil, Kat Von D Unrequited, UD Naked3 in Factory and Strange, NARS Galapagos, L’Oreal Amber Rush, Kat Von D Immortal Love Autograph pencil, and Tarte Lights Camera Lashes mascara- whew!! And finished with UD De-Slick spray. Dress was a cutout floral maxi (looks like Vanessa Hudgens’ dress you see on Pinterest a lot).

I go to bed around midnight 1AM. I work 9-5 so it’s not ideal. I’ve never had a poly-dactyl cat. My current favorite drugstore makeup is the Maybelline color whispers, so creamy and pretty. I love Boots No 7 sensitive skin body wash (which they now sell at Duane Reade.)I’ve unfortunately never touched an elephant. I’m close to a vertical split in yoga! Yesterday I wore black peg pants and a cream textured crop top from HM with my lazy orange flip flops. I put a lot more effort into my makeup, Face: Becca cream foundation, Nars madly blush, hourglass ambient light powder to highlight. Eyes: Bare Minerals 5 in one base, mac’s natural wilderness eye shadow in the crease, too faced better than sex, Nars via appia on my lower lash line and lips: MAC cherish.

I wore fashion fair cream makeup for 30 years because my mom wore it. I have dry skin and I was modeling and doing a little tv back then. They changed their packaging and I thought oh boy and sure enough the makeup was different as well. I went online and ordered my first mineral powder thinking no way will I get coverage like the cream. Not only do I get great coverage you can’t tell I have on makeup!! I love it.
