Is it just me, or does summer seem to bring on a new set of hair woes?
Case in point: I’ve gotten back in the habit of washing my hair everyday, which isn’t great for the whole “my hair’s getting thinner” thing.
It’s really helpful for allergies, though, not sleeping with lived-in hair that’s been outside all day.
And because I seem to be getting sweatier lately (I guess it’s because I’m trying to hit a goal of getting in 10,000 steps daily), my roots feel greasier than usual, and the thought of sleeping with a sweaty, janky scalp is not appealing.
Anyway, this morning I stood in my bathroom staring at my mane in the mirror and wondered if I should even bother styling it.
Why fuss with bangs or wrestling with the curling iron when I’m just going to put it up in a ponytail all day and wash it tonight anyway?
Ahh, to have beauty girl problems. LOL!
Still, I like the idea of having at least a little bit of a hairstyle! Because of this I’m thinking of venturing into the world of air dry creams; they’re kinda like hair gel, but with a softer hold, and some even have moisturizing benefits. There’s one by JVN (love him) that seems promising, but when I went to Sephora to check it out last year, the scent kinda overwhelmed me. I dunno, on paper it seems really lovely, though, so I’m going to go back and give it another chance.
How about you? What are your current summer hair woes?

I want to use less heat on mine but when I air dry it, my waves are kind of frizzy. I don’t mind as much if I’m not working but I don’t like it when I have to go to the office. I need to find some kind of product that would make it drive smoother. Any suggestions?

Make it DRY smoother not Drive smoother!🤣🤣

I hear you! I walk outside every morning and I live in South Florida, so it’s really hot! This morning it was 81F and sunny at 7:30! I don’t think I can get outside any earlier. But I also have to wash my hair everyday, between the sweating and the pollen, if I don’t wash it I’m sneezing constantly. It’s such a pain.

Super curly post-chemo curls here! And I finally got a haircut that I love from a curly-girl stylist. The best tip in a long while from her – do NOT put oil on wet hair, ’cause oil and water don’t mix! Use gel or mousse to control frizz and define curls or waves. Diffuse or air dry. When 100% dry, THEN use a touch of oil on hands to break up the crunch and add shine!
It’s working like a charm for me.

Glad you’re doing well post-chemo!

Frizz! Curl cream + gel usually works, but some days my hair + the humidity are unstoppable LOL. At the end of the day, I might have 300% bigger hair than when I started!

I feel like summer hair for me means a bit less volume at the crown (which is the opposite of what I need) and lots of ringlet curls on the underside (where they’re not very visible). Unless I have an event, I’m just wash-and-go these days. My hair is happier and healthier for it. Though, it certainly doesn’t look as nice, style wise! HAHA!

Melissa Alatorre recently posted on Instagram about a leave in styling cream that gives her a little bit of control, some shine and smoothing. I want to say the brand was “dae” or something like that.
She has long, thick beautiful hair with waves like yours.
In this video at around 3:20 she starts to explain how and why she likes to use that product and put her hair up into a really big, claw clip. She also links the smoothing brush she uses.

I wish I had some tips, but my hair is really short and super fine, so I just wash, detangle and go.

Congratulations on getting those steps in Karen! My daily walks can leave me with sweaty scalp especially since I wear hats for sun protection. I don’t have an answer but can definitely relate! Ponytails and braids are my go to styles and the thinner my hair Greta the more I rely on tiny braids near the crown to control the flyaways. Oribe leave in conditioner and oil help too.

I had a sample of the JVN cream, but really didn’t like it. The scent was overpowering and I can’t tolerate that, but it also didn’t smooth things enough and left a greasy look. And I barely used any?
I’m still trying to use up the full bottle of Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control. I probably won’t repurchase since I need gel to hold things down, but if you’re looking for something low hold and relatively light weight, it may be worth picking up a mini.
