What beauty-related tasks can you do well?
Painting nails? Coloring your hair? Waxing your brows?
For me, I’m OK at the following:
- Painting nails — I can do simple manis/pedis, which is all I need.
- Styling my hair — I can do most styles on my hair, as long as I watch a tutorial.
- Waxing — I can do everything except my brows. I tried to do my brows once and it was a disaster!
- Brows — Speaking of brows, I’m OK at plucking and shaping mine.
- Minimal makeup — Because it’s been my jam for like YEARS now, ha ha ha!
- Pairing eye/cheek/lip colors together — Even though I haven’t worn a full-on glam look in a while, I think that I did enough makeup in the past to still know what shades work together without needing my hand held.
- False lashes — I rarely wear them anymore, but I tried putting on a pair a while back and it was just like riding a bike.
How about you? What beauty-related tasks can you do well?

P.S. Happy Tuesday! I took an early morning walk and was reminded by Hawaii just how beautiful she is. The clouds, the water, the trees — Oahu is truly magical.

Look at you, so young in that photo with Connor in the car!
What can I do well? Other people’s hair…I did my friend’s hair on her wedding day, it’s just doing my own that’s the problem…

That’s so cool that you can do other people’s hair! What style did you do on your friend for her wedding day?
Sarah Lowes says
I put her hair up and fanned it out round her face, fastening it in place with a jewelled clip.

Today’s not a good day to answer that question because I feel like I got subtly insulted at every beauty counter I went to today. Sigh.
I’m good at applying sunscreen. You know the full two fingers worth for your face and another one for you neck, etc.
But look at you looking all gorgeous and beautiful with amazing skin. And Connor’s smile is responsible for melting the polar ice caps!
Ah, how I love hibiscus! All of the Hawaiian islands are so dang beautiful. Truly a paradise.
Karen says
I’m so sorry this happened. May I ask where it happened?
And thank you for your sweet compliments! You made my day better. 🙂
I hope that you get to visit the islands soon.

I can paint my nails and toes (and truly don’t mind doing it myself) and I can wax my lip. That is the only waxing I allow myself to do!
Karen says
Speaking of waxing one’s lips, I was chatting with a friend the other day about how gross and satisfying it is to wax your upper lip and then look at the wax strip with all the little hairs, LOL!

I’m good with the nail care and hair color. I recently foiled in some highlights and my stylist thought I’d had it done. I assumed she meant professionally, but now I’m realizing she never specified, so maybe I should slow my roll about adding that to something I do well. HAHA!
I hope you’re all enjoying your time in Hawaii. Your pics are beautiful and so peaceful. Of course, I’m partial to the North Shore with the waves crashing in. 🙂

I’ve become somewhat of a gentle skincare fiend in the pandemic! When the whole thing started in the US, hubs was caring for COVID patients in the ICU and oh man. The stress was off the charts. So was my stress induced acne. Thus began my relationship with The Ordinary’s azelaic acid, and me taking some time to learn about how to get rid of the acne without murdering my skin. I’ve had the best skin of my life since then, and not by constantly using actives.
