Sheer base life
I’ve been using Rose Inc Skin Enhance Luminous Tinted Serum for the last two weeks and have been getting lots of nice compliments on my base!
It’s sheer and moisturizing with barely there coverage and a slight pore smoothing effect, and when I set it with just the teeniest bit of MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder, in real life it looks natural and beautiful, even in full sun.
If you’re into minimal foundation like I am, give it a go.
FYI, you do need to mix the pigment spheres in your palms or the back of your hand before applying it, so there’s a small extra step involved, but it’s so easy that I don’t mind it at all. I’ve been using it lately for my quick go-to makeup.
Speaking of go-to looks, what’s yours right now?
Here’s mine! It takes less than 10 minutes, which I’m all about these days.
- Base: Rose Inc Skin Enhance set with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural and Hourglass Retouching Fluid in Sand
- Cheeks: NARS Deep Throat Powder Blush
- EYES: Hourglass Cave Eyeliner, Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Strapless, Tower 28 Mascara (it’s just OK), Anastasia Brow Pencil
- LIPS: Whatever non-neutral lippie is around. Lately it’s been NARS Dolce Vita Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.
Building a pre-packed beauty bag
Memorial Day is right around the corner, which means summer trips, yay!
I was wondering, when you go on a trip, do you pack your skin care and beauty essentials beforehand, or do you keep a separate travel bag on standby?
I’ve always packed my beauty bag right before a trip, and ugh, I *really* don’t want to do that anymore. It just makes packing too stressful! Side note: I tend to overpack and overthink what I bring because I’m always worried about forgetting something. Half the time I end up bringing too much, and I no longer want it to be that way.
Anywho, all this to say I saw a video recently about keeping a travel bag of beauty products stocked and ready, and it really spoke to me!
We’re going on a few short trips this summer, so I’d like to build travel beauty bags — one for me, and one for Connor, since I usually pack her toiletries — before we go on our trips.
I’d like to fully stock it (skin care, makeup, hair products, all the things), so that when I’m done, I can photograph everything inside and write everything down into a list. Ideally I’d like to format it into an easily accessible checklist, so I can take stock of what needs to be replaced and not have to reinvent the wheel every single time.
WISH ME LUCK because I’m gonna need it, LOL!
Happy Friday to you
Hope your week has been peaceful and joyful! If you feel like sharing any good things that’ve happened to you lately, I’d love to hear about them.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Looking beautiful!! It’s funny because I was just commenting to the Hubs not too long ago, while strolling through Sephora, that I was glad to see some suspension items at retail. I thought they were so cool when I first saw them and was wondering when/if they’d take off here in the US. 🙂
I’m half and half on the pre-packed. Things like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and cotton balls/qtips are all packed in ziplocs, ready to go. But, since I use all my other things daily, I throw them in a separate cosmetic bag when I pack for my trips. I used to do exactly what you do (worry about forgetting something) and then I just started saying (to myself and my boy who really stresses), “if it’s not my phone, ID or credit card, I can buy it when I get there”. I think, in all that time, I’ve had to buy a pair of cheap earbuds that I now keep in my purse as a spare, just in case. Once you realize you don’t actually NEED anything you can’t pick up, it’s much more relaxing. For me, anyway. 🙂
Have a great, long weekend! Happy almost Memorial Day! 🙂

The suspension items are cool! I really like them.
Honestly, I need to start telling myself that too. I’m tired of carrying excess worry around in my life!
What are you guys going to do this weekend? Anything fun?
Kim says
I agree on the suspension items – there’s something so satisfying about the little beads of goodness. 🙂
I hope that strategy works for you, too. There are really only a few super-important things in life, and I feel like you’re doing a really great job with those. 🙂
I hope you guys had a great weekend! We were pretty busy getting some things done around the house, and I spent one of the days with my besties volunteering for a local charity. The boys are currently men of leisure who spend all day, every day playing golf. Until they start their summer jobs. Those days seem so long ago (for me), but I’m glad to see them enjoying this time since “real life” will be upon them soon enough.

Oh my goodness, summer jobs! I remember them fondly. College jobs, too. Low pressure, lots of friends around, not taking the work home with you… If only I could go back in time to tell myself to really enjoy it!
I hope you are having fun with your full house again. 🙂

I purchased the Rose, Inc. tinted serum and brush during the recent 20% sale. I haven’t opened the box yet but I think this weekend I’ll break it out! Sheer, buildable, slightly dewy coverage is where it’s at for me. I do more low key looks anyway and I don’t have to worry about a perfect shade match. I really recommend the tint by Summer Friday’s as well!
Sounds like the Tower 28 mascara wasn’t a perfect match for you. I do find it can get clumpy fast so I always wipe off excess before applying. Apart from that issue I really like it and it’s in regular rotation for me.
Happy Friday and long weekend!

Your skin looks so good! Too bad that tint has sunflower seed oil – I get moderate anaphylactic reactions to eating sunflower so I just avoid it in everything. Sometimes tocopherol is sunflower sourced too, so I avoid that high up in ingredients lists. Annoying!
Thanks for the video! We’re doing a little trip the beginning of July and we’re not flying so I’m excited to not be limited to a Ziploc, especially since we’re going to Canada and I can get some of the Grench pharmacy products the don’t sell in the US.

I had to go on 3 business trips prior to 2012. I learned the value of packing less (at least when flying). I took less on each trip than the one before, because I found that I really didn’t need some of the things I had been bringing with me. Also, I didn’t need to bring a hairdryer as the hotel always had one available. I noticed that other people who went on the same 5-day business trip as I did (using one 21″ suitcase, one smaller carryon, and a purse) were bringing two large suitcases with them, as well as their carryon and purse. I’d never want to do that.
