Hello, my friend! Good morning. 🤗 I hope you’re having a wonderful Friday so far. This was my first week at my new gig, and it’s been great. I’ve already had a few assignments and even turned in my first deliverable this week. Oh, and if I could toot my own horn a little bit, I turned it in early. TOOT-TOOT!
It’s been a while since I’ve started a new job, and I’m only just now remembering how low-key terrifying it is! You don’t know anything or anybody, what people have been working on, and, of course, there are those moments when you wonder, “Am I going to be able to do this?”
I try to remind myself that it’s like this for everyone (unless you’re Superwoman?). I just have to hang in there. It’s definitely been good for my soul.
It has been quite an adjustment not being able to hang out with my sidekick as much lately, because before I started the gig, I had more time with Coywolf after I picked her up from school in the afternoons. Sometimes we’d go to the bakery to get a cookie and talk about her day, or we’d swing by the library, or run a few errands at Target. I mean, we still hang out, and she usually plays right next to the door to my office. She has a little desk and likes to keep herself busy there, especially with Lego, crayons and makeup (often all at the same time).
Can you believe she did all of these looks on her own without any direction from me? My favorite, of course, is the smokey eye-inspired princess panda.
Oh, and speaking of makeup, I don’t know what I was thinking because I thought I would have all the time in the world to put on face paint before video meetings, but that has so not been the case this past week. I saw myself doing a cool daytime friendly smokey lid or a super sharp cat eyes.
If I’m lucky, I get maybe 10 or 15 minutes to get ready. Yesterday morning I only had five.
Seriously, the pieces I bought from Ilia have been saving my butt, though. No joke. Oh, and the Chanel brow pencil of course. Maybe next week will be the week I do something fun like glitter on my lids? I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed.
How are things on your end of the keyboard? What’s the funniest thing that happened to you this week? How about the weirdest thing somebody said to you? Did you meet any new friends this week, human or feline?
Talk to you soon!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF!

Congrats on the new gig! You’ll figure it out!
Be well and enjoy the weekend. I’ll be in Florida for a few days!

Hey girl,
I’m happy to hear that everything has been cool at your new gig. I’ve been busier than before, because now I’m part of Chargeback team, so I got new responsibilities; I’m still learning, but I’m excited.
About makeup for work, when I’m feeling really low I do a full face, but what I’ve been doing most of the time is keeping my lipstick on the desk, and if I need to turn my camera just put a bright red or pink.
Connor is getting really good at makeup, so I’m looking forward to see more looks from her.
Have a nice weekend!

Congratulations on the new gig. That’s always sort of scary, making the changes like that. As to new friends – I joined a writer’s association here in the Windy City and have met some marvelous people of all ages and backgrounds which has been fun as COVID cancelled most of our book signing events. Love the Ilya products and they are my go-to for “quick, out the door to Trader Joe’s days”. I use the Super Skin serum foundation (light and slightly dewy, NOT shiny) with a non-chemical SPF 40 and they have my Casper the Friendly Ghost shade for my uber pale skin. among their 30 (count em) shades. That’s topped with the Illuminating stick in Polka Dots and Moonbeams on my cheekbones and a little on the brow bone, the Liquid Power eyeshow (currently wearing DIM, a soft lavender brown) and the tinted lip oil in Maybe Violet. Less than 5 minutes I’m out the door.

You are going great, with all your talents I’m sure you are doing beautifully at your new job! Hang in there. It will all continue to come into focus.
My favorite Connor look is the Purple Panda Alien look at the bottom. Very fetching lol!! Too adorable!! I know that feeling of loving work opportunities but missing kid time. That will even out, too. At least you have her right nearby.
I’m going with liquid eyeshadows these days. Just convinced my family to take a joy ride to Ulta before dinner to pick up sale items. Plus some extras. Stocked up on Juice primer, which I loved last year but ran out of and never re-ordered.
Happy weekend!

I’m really curious that you’re using the cool nude palette – it’s because technically, I’d be a ‘cool’ colours person because I’m pale and blonde, what made you pick that one? I like the look of the colours in it but wonder if they would work on me if they work on you, if you see what I mean!
Peace has recently broken out in our house as Ragnar and Freya are both using the same cat basket at the same time…Could it be because it’s in front of an open window (both are very nosey about anything going on in the street), and because it’s heated..?

Hi Sarah,
Technically my skin tone is classified as warm, however when it comes to eyeshadows, I love wearing cool tones. I think they do a better job of creating the illusion of a shadow on my lids to carve out a deeper crease. I also feel like cooler eyeshadows pop more on my skin; the contrast to me is very flattering!

I totally get the “no time to get ready” thing. I do the same look over and over because I can do it quickly and half asleep, not a chance for something adventurous .

Congrats on meeting your deadline early! I’m sure, as you settle in, you’ll be able to align your schedule a bit closer with Connor’s. 🙂 A new job is terrifying, even if you do know people there. You’re going to shine there, just like you do here. Keep showing them what you’ve got!

I’m behind but congrats on your first week and meeting that deadline. I remember my first week at my curent job just breaking down and being like “Why did they even hire me, I have no effing clue what I’m doing!” but more than three years later I’ve never been happier at a job. I get introduced to a lot of people when they start at my company and I always make sure to tell them that that feeling is completely normal.
Oh man, I didn’t have any video calls today but when I had to test some video software for our events person it gave me a preview of my non-made-up face and I was like OH NO.
