Yesterday’s work view!

Good morning and happy Tuesday! Check this view out…

I love the curve of the staircase against the blue sky.

Gorgeous, right? It was my office for the day yesterday. We had an in-person meeting for work, and it was held at a beautiful spot in Mill Valley in southern Marin county.

I had to give a presentation in the afternoon, and gasp! I actually did my hair and put on makeup, but because I was doing last-minute prep all morning long, I forgot to take pictures of myself. *shrugs*

The presentation went OK, by the way. It was interactive and my co-worker and I used candy to bribe people into participating! Worked like a charm, so yay for Starbursts and Hershey’s Kisses.

I have to admit, it was weird as hell to be in the same room with all the people I’ve been chatting with on video calls for the last few months. The camera doesn’t really show you how tall or short people are, or how they move and walk and sit. Even though it’s been so long since the lockdown of 2020, I think I’m still experiencing the effects of not really being around people for the last couple years.

Anywho, thanks for listening to me prattle on about work.

On another note, El Hub dragged me and Connor to a sporting goods store last weekend, and while he spent an inordinate time looking at fishing gear, I took pics of all the things on the shelves that I’ve never seen before, like these individual pickles in a bag.

Um, am I the only person who didn’t know such a thing existed? What a time to be alive!

Other interesting items…

A powder made specifically for preventing sweat and friction on your bum.

I kind of love how the cartoon monkey is wearing a single strand of pearls, LOL!

There were unusual things for guys, too, like beer soap.

Oh, and do you know what horehound hard candy tastes like? I have no idea.

I have to admit that I was intrigued by this portable potty system for ladies. As a woman who always needs to use the bathroom at the most inopportune times, this gadget appeals to me.

If you’ve actually tried this and liked it, let me know! I would buy it if a friend vouched for it.

This afternoon, I’m going to get a haircut. My last one was in August, and this mane is heavy, man! I’m still not exactly sure what I’m going to do, but I’m going to get some length removed, and maybe some long bangs… I still don’t know. I’ll probably end up with something shoulder length with layers. Long hair works for me, but when it’s as long as it is right now, I feel like I look witchy, but not in a cool Stevie Nicks kind of way, ha ha.

Building those happiness muscles, day five

It’s been a couple days since my last happiness check in. For day five, the two things I’m grateful for are 1) the sweet sounds of birds singing outside my window in the morning (it’s a lovely alarm clock), and 2) homemade avocado sushi after a long day.

Itadakimasu!

    Hey girl hey,

I need the anti monkey butt.
I’ve had a version of the pee device for ladies in my amazon cart for eons now. I need to pull the trigger. I’ll let you know if I get it. My bladder is aging and sometimes there’s no potty to use or tree to hide behind.
In my Sephora checkout I just put NARS The Glow Getter Face and Lip Set, which I don’t really need but desperately want. My Orgasm blush is all broken to bits so it would be nice to have one that didn’t have to put in a ziplock. Plus, I’ve heard great things about the highlight powder that’s included.

Whoever wrote the copy for the Monkey Butt label clearly had a good time. I didn’t realize this until now, but apparently it’s also for minimizing thigh chafing, too? So it’s a multi-use product. LOL.

Hey, I actually have it and like it. I heard about it from a cycling blog. Cycling shorts can get pretty sweaty, and it helps. It can be a bit messy, but it works well and makes me laugh. Also can dust it beneath your bra for summer sweatiness.

Hi Karen! I love the photos from your meeting. It’s so nice you got to have it outside and not in a dingy boardroom.

I totally think you should do a “5 Things” post about weird stuff from the sporting goods store! I have so many questions about the horehound candy and portable potty device. Did the store carry makeup? I could see them having face paint to use for disguising yourself when hunting and maybe it can be used like a MAC Paint Pot? 😂

Anyway, I’m grateful for your posts. They definitely make my day better and I can’t wait to see your new haircut!

Wow, that view from your in-person work meeting looks like a fabulous backdrop for what could be a nerve wracking return to being in person again. I’m like you we are slowly going back to in person and on May 30th everything is meant to be 100% live and in- person like the old days and I am pretty nervous. I am not sure how I will manage the stimulation, lights, sounds, smells, that will be so different than the last two plus years. I am trying to be brave and go with the flow but my sleep interruptions tell me I am not doing great at it. I will keep positive and meditate when worries hit. I am looking forward to it in some ways because being home and in an office all day can get isolating. I think a hybrid would be perfect if possible …. I am grateful today for colleagues who understand me and care and for our upcoming long weekend!!! Monday off. Yay!!!

I must add the Kosas concealer is truly fantastic for covering my dark circles. I highly recommend it. I also splurged in a lip oil and like it too.

The Kosas lip oil is really good! What color did you pick?

I haven’t tried any of the Kosas ones. I have Ilia Lip Oil in the coral shade, Tahiti, which I love!

My dad loves Horehound candy. I think it’s a root of some kind, and it’s stronger-flavored, kind of like root beer and licorice. I’m not a fan.

My friend has the pee device for camping. I’ve never used it, but she says at least 50% of the time, she peed on herself while trying to use it (she’s a frequent camper, so she gave it many tries) so has gone back to just squatting. 🤣

What a beautiful blue sky! In Texas it rarely looks like that. Sometimes in winter the air is clean enough for it to look like that. Notice you never heard of an artist moving to Texas “for the light”? There’s a good reason for that. Too close to the equator, and the air is polluted more than most people realize.
I’m pretty sure I had horehound candy when I was a child, when cheap candy was still available in candy stores. It is sort of like root beer.

What a beautiful view. I am part of a team that’s scattered all over the country and most of us have never actually met in person – that would feel kind of odd. I wish they’d pass out candy at our meetings though.

Horehound – if I remember it’s sort of like black licorice and a cough drop mixed together. Not a favorite when I was a kid.

Ah – the pickle – I still have a picture somewhere on my blog of the giant pickle seen in a vending machine on the interstate through Indiana. I passed and got some Keebler cookies instead.

As for the peeing device – all I can say is you haven’t lived until you’ve had to pee in an empty peanut butter jar in turbulence trying to fly a small twin-engine aircraft full of canceled bank checks into Oakland in the middle of the night. Ah – the glamour of it all 🙂

Hi Karen!! Can’t wait to see your new haircut. I love when I see the finished product after a stylist is done with someone. I know…I’m weird!! LOL!! I’ve actually had Horehound candies. I bought some for myself a few years ago, from a store called Boscov’s, here in PA. My paternal grandmom used to like Horehounds. The name does crack me up. Anyway, I can only describe the taste as something similar to honey. It’s really hard to explain. At any rate, it is an old fashioned candy from yesteryear. It makes me think of my Italian grandmom, because she always had them in her purse. And, my husband Jim, who is very athletic, has used the original Anti-Monkey Butt Powder. It’s too cute!! So hilarious, but I think it actually works. Ha Ha!!

I adore horehound candy! It’s been around for ages. When I was a little girl, my great-grandmother would give me a couple hard candies as a treat. That was back in the 1940’s. Besides being a candy treat, it was—and still is—an effective herbal sore throat and cold remedy. Sucking on horehound candy and drinking horehound tea sweetened with honey soothes the throat and loosens that tight feeling in the chest.
