** THE GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED **

This giveaway is closed, and the winner has been contacted (CONGRATULATIONS, KIM!!!), but check back next Saturday for another giveaway.

MAC makeup giveaway

Good morning, glory (or evening, or afternoon, depending on what time it is where you are). It’s morning for me here in foggy Novato. 🙂

I’m still chugging along. Yesterday I took it easy and just caught up on some me time. Right now I’m on the way out the door to the Sephora Nighttime Smoky Eyes class, and THAT should most definitely be fun. I’m really looking forward to it.

I hope you have a great weekend and do something fun. Thank you a million times over for all of your help and your sweet email and comment notes over the past few days. Now I have a much better handle on the baby supplies thing and which things are really needs versus nice-to-have wants (the main takeaway: I need a lot, but it’s less than I thought).

And also, thank you for just being sweet and kind. There’s not enough of that these days, but a little kindness still goes a long way in life. I thank you and love you very much, my friend.

Prize

  • One (1) MAC eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

$50 MAC eGIFT CARD

Rules

  • Enter by leaving a comment below.
  • Open to U.S. and international readers.
  • You must be 18 or older to enter (or otherwise an adult based on your local laws).
  • Your comment can be about anything at all, but here are some ideas if you’re stuck:
    • On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being bangin’), how would you currently rate your brows?
    • Have you ever gone on a trip with a large group of people?
    • Who’s your favorite drinking buddy?
    • What’s the biggest (as in physical size) book you own?
    • Have you decorated your home for Halloween? If so, tell me about it.
    • What’s one of your favorite textile patterns?
  • One entry per person.
  • You must use a valid email address to win.
  • The giveaway ends on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 11:59 PM (Pacific Time). 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Hi Karen, glad you took some time off yesterday to relax and enjoy some you time!

I did go on a trip to a cottage by the lake with a large group of my friends. It was fun for the most part 🙂

I am jealous of that Smokey Eye class! Hope you will share what you learn with us.

      My brows, are not banging.
They look like bushy catepillars, and I need to get them done ASAP.
      So, I guess I’d give them a 2/10.

    Hello, Karen,

Congratulations for you daughter, you look beautiful and happy.

Brows and neck are by far the favourite parts of my body. By natural I have cat brows, I only need to comb them a little and it’s enough. Not the same for my small eyelashes, unfortunately…

    Best.

One of my favorite textile patterns is madras plaid, and I’m looking for a shirt right now but am having a really hard time finding one! I saw it on the new 80’s themed show Red Oaks on Amazon Prime and am on a mission to find something similar asap! But it would be a Christmas miracle if I did… I think they only live in thrift stores nowadays.

Textile print? The Ghanaian textile prints called Ankara. If you haven’t already checked them out, do and be amazed! Congratulations on your baby, may he grow up to be inspiring. Yesterday I spent all day with a 39 day old baby and his mother. He weighed 9 pounds at birth, natural birth too. Our bodies are amazing!

I have gone on a few trips with a group of people. First was a Vegas trip with five of my good friends (totally fun!). Second was a girls/guys weekend to Laughlin (there were about twelve of us total). Third, my dad’s entire side of the family also went to Laughlin together (28 people in all!!) It’s always worked out well as long as everyone has their own space to retreat to at the end of the day or when it gets to be too much. My BFF’s and I (four of us total) have also done weekend trips to LA, San Diego, and Big Bear. I wouldn’t call it large but it’s definitely a group.

This is my favorite time of the year – the crisp cool mornings, the changing color of the leaves on trees, all the fall baking and of course the cozy sweaters and boots weather! This weekend we are going to a pumpkin patch, a corn maze then carving our pumpkins! It is going to be a great weekend!

Yesterday, I went to a ‘beauty bash’ held in conjunction with the opening of a Nordstrom that is closer than other Nordstrom locations. It was a great opportunity to have consultations with a variety of brands and makeup artists who gave advice on product, technique and were happy to apply give mini makeovers. I learned a lot! Then into the store to explore. My haul was on the clothing side although I did walk away with my first Tom Ford lipstick (in Flame) and a wish list of products for future purchase. The boots you showed in an earlier post would go so well with the clothing looks I brought home.

Glad to hear that you relaxed yesterday as that’s important for you and baby.

On the rate of 1-10 my natural eye brows are 3, and that’s me being generous and loving myself since my brows decided to grow one seat apart, if I draw them they became like 5.5, that’s the readin why I might go out without brushing my terth but not without drawing my eye brows first 🙂 kidding aside I always brush my teeth 🙂

Eh, I’d say my brows are a 6.5. I paid some attention to them last night but they’re just so stubborn. I’m noticing changes in them, could it be because I’m getting older? They’re not as full and dark as they once were, I’m going to have to learn some new tricks to make them look better.

I am not a fan of trips with large groups. That being said, I have taken tours with about 10-30 people. These were people I did not know and that was when I was a lot younger. About 5 years ago I went on a tour of East Africa and there were 10 people on the trip. We all got to be very good friends and we had a great time. I once did a small cooking and wine tour for a week in Tuscany and got to know the 10 people on the tour very well. That was about 10 years ago and we all still email each other to this day! Other than that, if I have a choice, I would like to travel with one other person and sometimes I like traveling on my own. I am doing a two week Mediterranean cruise next year on my own. Im so excited for it.

I stick to a few season trendy things from one season to another, but I love to wear things that don’t always fit the season -appropriate theme. One that note, I ordered an unconventional lippie shade from Coloured Raine last night, as well as three new liners from Colour Pop. Can’t wait to get them. I’m also lemming after the newly released KVD mini duo that launched on the Sephora site yesterday. Needless to say, I’m having fun with my makeup obsession these days 🙂 Glad you took a breather yesterday. Hope you teach us a thing or two about what you learned from that Sephora class. The last time I traveled with a large group was a few years ago to Lisbon. It was interesting because I went with a friend and most of the others were quite older than us and they would always try to group the younger crowd together, as if they were “too old”…

    Hi Karen,

I’m not much for Halloween decorations but I was gifted a candle with a pumpkin waffle scent and it is making my home seems a little more “fall”.

My boyfriend owns this Arabic textbook that is huge- I can’t fit it on our bookshelf- yet he insists on having it within easy reach…in case of any Arabic language emergencies. To my knowledge it hasn’t actually been opened in years.

Happy Saturday Karen (El Hubs, Princess, and Tabs)

Still on the mend recuperating from pneumonia but doing much better. Today just rest and relaxation with some light exercise to improve the quality of my lungs (it’s what the doctor prescribes). Other than that I’ll see what Netflix has to offer on the movie selection or see if there’s a scary movie on cable (Halloween bootastic movies).

    Have an awesome weekend.

On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being bangin’), how would you currently rate your brows?

    When done – 10+

Have you ever gone on a trip with a large group of people?

Unfortunately no because I don’t really do large groups , but I’ve been on trips with smaller ones.

    Who’s your favorite drinking buddy?

Myself. I always show up lol.

What’s the biggest (as in physical size) book you own?

History of the Kama Sutra (the original)

Have you decorated your home for Halloween? If so, tell me about it.

No I’ve never really gone all out for Halloween before.

What’s one of your favorite textile patterns?

Houndstooth. It just says: expensive, classy but still fun and flirty.

first of all- Congrats! I don’t think I have yet to say it to you! I have been meaning to write to you about what you need and what is nice to have and what was just junk …. I have a 2 year old. well, actually she is now 2.5.
right when she was born, these really cool swaying, vibrating seats came out. they’re like bouncy chairs and a swing in one. you have to get one. She was in the NICU for a week or so and loved the one that they had. those things are amazing. so instead of having one thing, we had the swing and we had the seat that swayed- thank goodness that they got a product that does both so we don’t have to buy both now (although some of them cost just about as much as both lol)….
Anyway- I finally just got my first mac lipstick! I had never had Mac but always wanted to try it. $17 really isn’t that bad for a mac lipstick…. I really really want to win this. I have such a huge list of Mac products that I want to try out. Thank you for your weekly giveaways, Karen. And thank you for having a really cool blog that always has some really awesome swatches and pics! And Congrats again!

I currently use Tarte brow gel to fill them in but just can’t them to grow back. Since I have given in and stopped coloring my locks I really would like thicker brows!

On another note, I just read on a blog that women over 60 should not use eyeshadow. Yeah right!! That is still going to happen but I do try to go for a natural look and no cat eyes. What do you and your readers think?

Their beach water is sparkling, we went to one of their very popular beaches were we were taught their traditional dance steps, tasted their different delicacies etc. The only challenge was language, their main language is french very few öf them speak English. They also don’t eat pepper so when next I visit there I will travel with my pepper.
In all we had fun and learnt about the Senegal else culture and belief.

Brows.. I can’t stand mine. When I was in my early teens I used to shave them and draw them really thin :s It took me until my early 20’s to grow back two whole brows but they’re sparse and thin. I would love to have full brows, I fill them in and enhance them as much as I can but I’ll never have thick brows.

    Hi Karen,

I have serious brow issues, thanks to my dad. It’s really obvious that I got it from him (yes, it’s that bad).

Since my teenage years I’ve been struggling to have the perfect brows. I’ve been through so many ups and downs. And now is actually a bit of a down time.

My left brow is probably a 3, and my right brow is a 5 I guess. So the dilemma now is: do I make my right brow a 3 as well, or do I wait for my left brow to grow to a 5 and hope that it progresses from there?

    Trying to keep calm,
    Mitz

It really is overwhelming for baby gear, then places like Babies R Us give you those helpful checklists that have 75% of the store on them, hah! Nice thing is too that a lot of things you can pick up as you go. Newborns don’t need a whole lot and are pretty flexible about where and when they sleep etc. At 33 weeks now I’m starting to get a little freaked out that we aren’t ready, having a second boy had given me a false sense of confidence “oh we don’t really need much new”, haha. We’re lucky that a few mom friends are offloading baby gear after having their last ones, so that’s taken care of the big stuff like a car seat.

Well I wish I had what I had, then, now!!! What does seem to grow, grows in at all different times. I always have the tweezers in my hands!! Oh well, that’s what they make brow gel for.. I should’ve listened to my mother when she told me to leave them alone.

Unfortunately the are pretty thin and sparse and because they are blonde they just fade away into my face. They also don’t have an arch. They look like the frowns on two unhappy faces! Lol! 🙁

I’ve tried to grow them out but they grow out with the thin 90s look. Today they’re uneven and to help make them look even I have to keep them thin. I don’t do a whole lot of decorating for Halloween… just a couple window stickers I put on my front screen door. I do, however, decorate for fall, so there is a straw bale, some cornstalks, a couple pots of burgundy mums, and a bunch of pumpkins gracing my front porch! 🙂

My brows are somewhere between a 7 or 8. They have a good shape and a nice, natural arch. In my 20’s all I had to do was make sure they were nicely cleaned up but as I get older (I’m in my 30’s) I notice I have spots to fill in that were never an issue before.

So I was only able to get them waxed last weekend, and now I have to teach myself how to use the kit I picked up at Sally’s. Not the end of the world, but it’s just so convenient for a natural blonde like me to get them tinted as long as she’s already shaping them, you know?

In 4th or 5th grade I went with my class to the Omni Theater in Fort Worth, Texas and it was insanely cool and a little scary at the same time– I’d love to go back actually!

Ugh, my brows are like a 4 at best. Luckily they’re blonde so they’re hard to see!

I rate my brows a 5 I guess. They could be better. Been hard for to do some grooming for myself. I’m always busy taking car of my 1 year old, cleaning, cooking for finding an hour to myself. I don’t have money, haven’t had money to buy anything for myself. We can barely buy diapers and wipes. I try to enter as much giveaways as possible for anything and I never. Hopefully I win soon.

I was on an athletic scholarship when I was in undergraduate, and every winter break we would take a training trip to a warm location. We were on the swim team, and the height of our season was in January, so our coach would sort of bribe us with an exotic trip in exchange for intensive training. I’m not complaining! But it did get tough traveling with 30 people every January… definitely some funny memories though!
