Dastardly Dilemmas: You Can Only Have One Face Product (A Specific Blush, Bronzer, Foundation, Tinted Moisturizer, BB Cream, Etc.) for the Rest of Your Life. What Is It?

October 1st, 2014 by Karen 40 Comments

Oh, the humanity!

I don’t know what sinister force keeps making me come up with these cruel, twisted beauty scenarios, but I’m sorry. 🙂

For my answer, I want to say MAC Face & Body, because I’ve used it for years, I love the dewy finish, and I can trust that it won’t give me breakouts or scoot and slide around once it’s on, but…

This is so twisted!

As much as it would pain me to forsake foundation (and it WOULD pain me), I am non-functional and Halloween costume-caliber frightening if I don’t have at least a hint of color on my face, so I’m going to go with the NARS Orgasm/Laguna Duo…

With a bit of bronzer and a dash of blush, Karen is a happy cookie.

Dastardly dilemmas: You can only have one face product (a specific blush, bronzer, foundation, tinted moisturizer, BB cream, etc.) for the rest of your life. What is it?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy hump day!

    You’re such a cruel woman…

I’d probably go for a lightly tinted mattifying powder. To keep the oil at bay and give me a little bit of evenness.

You are cruel indeed. Let me think…I think I’d go with foundation and pick Revlon ColorStay. I have used it for years and it never fails to disappoint me. But, to be honest, I cannot imagine not being able to use a blush! It makes such a big difference!

      Hi Agata,

Ya know, I’ve heard GREAT things about that foundation. I have a friend who does movie makeup and she raved about it! I have had it on my to-try list for forever. One of these days…

Hope you’re having a nice Wednesday so far. Are you working today?

You should definitely try it. I believe all Revlon is 40% off this week at Ulta! Although recently I have been loving my new mac Face&Body, I am so glad I tried it!

Boo! This is mean. My thoughts, in a ramble: My first instinct was MAC Tenderling, because I can use a little on my cheeks and (safely, it seems) my eyes and look instantly like a human being. But what about my concealer? And my favorite red lipstick? What about my eyebrow pencil? Ok, if I was leaving to travel and had time to grab just one thing it would probably be my Anastasia Brow Wiz. There.

      Hi Elizabeth,

LOL! I went through the same paces. I’m virtually non-functional without my under-eye concealer. I figure at least the blush and bronzer will distract from the purple, haha!

Lush Color Supplement in Light Pink. Can be used as tint, foundation, or concealer, doesn’t make me break out AT ALL (which makes it magic), and doesn’t sit in my fine lines.

I would miss my eyebrows though.

      Hi Remi,

I second missing the brows. My right brow disappears halfway and has virtually no tail. I’d probably get bangs to cover them, LOL!

Oh, you big cheater! Choosing a duo! 🙂 I’d have to go with Tarte’s BB for the decent coverage and the sunscreen. Need to protect from that sun damage!

I’d probably take my NARS Pure Radiant tinted moisturizer. It just makes my skin look better, but not made up.

Base was the first makeup item I sought out on my own when I started wearing makeup, so I’d say Make Up For Ever’s Full Cover “Camouflage Cream” (it’s really a multi-use concealer). (If I only have a few minutes to prep, it’s that plus Brow Wiz – it was tough to choose between the two!)

If you had asked me a year ago, I would’ve said Revlon Colorstay Foundation, too! I wore that stuff for years; it’s wonderful AND wallet-friendly. Karen, if you end up trying it, I say determine the bottle(s) you’re going to buy exclusively by shade, instead of formulation THEN shade: I find that both the normal/dry and oily formulations function exactly the same (e.g. long-wearing).

Ugh, this is a tough one! But I’d probably say my concealer, honestly! I have a lot of natural color in my face so I don’t even use a blush/bronzer every day. I just need something to cover imperfections and those dark undereye circles!

    Karen! You’re so mean!

    Lol!

Honestly, this brings up a huge problem for me. Part of me immediately demands that I keep my NARS Cream Foundation in Siberia to cover up my rosy red cheeks. But then, I run into more trouble because once I cover up my red cheeks I can look a little ghostly. I am a pale girl. So, I always blend in some Orgasm or Benefit’s Rockateur on top of my cheeks.

I guess, when push comes to shove I will pick my NARS Cream foundation. I can just use a lighter hand as I put in on cheeks.

Gosh! That was an agonizing decision.

Hi, Karen! This is my first comment here. I’m a russian chemist and beauty addict as well=)
You’re the most inspiring Eng-speaking beauty-blogger for me personally; thank you for all brilliant ideas you’re sharing with your readers.

My top of the best and most needed is Chanel Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour in 01. I could use the light section as a foundation and concealer, pink one as a blush, and the dark middle section both as a bronzer and even as a brow filler.

Cheeks are face, right? I’d go for Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Rose. I can live with a not quite perfect skin, but I am so sallow I couldn’t possibly live without colour in my face. Besides, you should SEE me when I’m wearing foundation and nothing else. So there.

Inglot Cosmetics loose powder, because, wow. This powder is everything. Makes your face look perfectly flawless every, single, time. Not to mention, it mattifies and controls oil, doesn’t oxidise, and lasts forever. Can you tell I love it? I would seriously give up my entire makeup collection if I could always and forever have this powder.

As much as I’d love to choose a few I’d have to say either NYX (pot) concealer or MAC concealer. My face is pretty much light in the center and deeper around the perimeter, but I’d love to cover up a few marks that my brightening serum can’t get to. It hurts to say I can’t have a blush, bronzer or even a highlighter but concealer has always been my friend.

Just one????? Fine… I think I’d have to go with MAC Studio Fix Fluid. It always makes me look flawless and I almost never need concealer with it. Plus, I have dry-ish skin, so it sets matte on me. No powder needed! If there’s one thing that makes me feel confident, it’s a perfected base!

Although I’m a natural brunette, I was blessed with my dad’s fine, very light brown lashes that are practically invisible without mascara. Luckily, I’ve got both length and curl naturally, so I would say Maybelline The Colossal Volum Express in black as my one item! Even if I have nothing else on, a little mascara makes me feel somewhat pulled together!

Bobbi Brown corrector concealer in Extra Light Bisque. The darkness under my eyes is heredity and fierce, so between that and camouflaging a few spots, that’s the bare minimum I’d need.

I’m thinking bronzer. Giorgio Armani Sheer Bronzer #1. It’s on the cooler side so I also use it for contouring. My skin might be super oily but who cares? I got model cheekbones, LOL!

I’m gonna say Chanel Le Blanc primer. It really is great skin in a bottle. Oh, no, I need sunscreen. Maybe Kate Somerville CC cream because its SPF 50. Karen, this is too tough!! I’m going with the Le Blanc because technically I could use body SPF.

IT Cosmetics CC cream. I think I could live with all the other things, but not with my crazy uneven skin tone!

Now, if you said I couldn’t have a lip balm with this, I’d sulk in a corner!

I would go with a Stila Convertible Color! I’m going with Poppy, a red, that gives me an instant dewy flush and can be used on the lips as well, because without color on my face I look dead! I can go a day without foundation or powder, but I can never be without color on my lips and cheeks 😉

I had a freak out when I remembered under eye concealer! Then realised I answered the question wrong altogether (loooong work day).
That said, one of my garnier eye roll ons.
The caffeine infused concealer roll on was my holy grail before I got a tan (it may or may not have been discontinued which is making me twitch).
To get a darker colour I went for the garnier bb eye roll on in medium (after swatching out the whole store) the stuff is crazy silky, has enough coverage and if you wear it without foundation you can’t tell the difference between concealer and skin.
    Nothing else needed 🙂
