A Day of Firsts

pumpkin spice latte
#PSL

OK, grumpy goat, if the thought of drinking a Starbucks #PSL in summer (fall doesn’t officially start ’til the 22nd) makes you grit your diamond grill, please look away, I say. LOOK AWAY!

Because I had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season the other day, and it was glorious.

It was one of those cool, crisp sunny days that feels like fall — when it’s still nice enough to sit outside but cool enough to wear long sleeves and pants.

Connor hung out with me as I enjoyed my drink outside, but I think she was missing her daddy…

“HALP! Send reinforcements!”

The trip was our first official mommy-daughter outing together…

I know, it only took six months! That’s how long it took me to build up the courage to take her out by myself.

Yes, when I see that in print, it does seem pretty lame… Heck, I jumped out of a plane once! I should be able to take a baby out of the house by myself, LOL! But seriously, I was nervous about not having anyone around to help, like to hold the doors open for the stroller, or to help carry the massive baby bag that I feel the need to stuff with everything and the kitchen sink, or to call 911 if Connor gets stung by a bee and I freak-the-eff out, or whatever.

But we did fine.

Those lashes, though!

I’m gonna take her out again tomorrow to help me find a present for a friend’s 40th birthday.

Got any ideas?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

No gift ideas but congrats on surviving your first mommy/daughter day out. She’s sooooo pretty. You know, I still can’t get with the #PSL life. Gonna try again this weekend. Haven’t had one since last year & I wasn’t impressed. But I’m not a real coffe drinker. It has to taste like candy or I can’t handle it. Lol. What can I say? I’m a proud fake coffee lover 🙂

KWMECHELLE if you like a sweeter taste, they can also make a PSL frapp or make it with cream and not coffee.

Oh I can understand perfectly that you were nervous about taking her out all by yourself! Good to hear you girls had a fun outing 🙂

She is so cute! Have you tried a baby carrier like an Ergobaby? It makes it so much easier to move around with them. No loading baby seats or strollers or wrestling doors. I used one with #1 and now with #2.

Good job, Karen! How did you do? I am sure taking Connor Claire by yourself was stressful but I am sure you did terrific.

Have you ever tried Starbucks’ Double shot on Ice? If so, ask them to make it with pumpkin spice syrup instead of the Classic! It’s delicious and doesn’t have as many calories as a regular PSL!

My baby is 25 today! Where has the time gone? But I remember our first trip to Kmart. I was carrying her the whole time and she was so heavy after a while. And I worried the whole time “what if she cries and I can’t figure out why” or how can I fix whatever it is–in public! we have survived–she in a Master’s program for social work now. Congrats on Miss Connor Claire–she’s a keeper!

She is such a pretty baby.

Congratulations on the outing! It’s finally starting to cool down here, I need to start buying some fall clothes.

If a local cleaning company offers gift cards, give your friend a professional home cleaning.

Or you can take her for a manicure. I did that for Xmas last year with 2 friends.

I’m so happy everything went well on your first mommy and daughter going out. Ms Connor looks to be a heartbreaker in some years ?

Did you know we don’t get the famous PSL? Is one of those strange things we don’t have here but also I’m not big fan of Starbucks for me is overpriced.

Well I don’t know who the friend is but what about a light cape? With summer finishing and temperature getting lower he or she would love a light one which also works as a personal blanket.

Finally, do you know what happened to my comment in the Selena’s collection post? I don’t what I did but I only know I hit publish and disappeared.

      Hi Efra,

I’m not sure what happened; I think it accidentally got kicked into spam. It’s up now though! 🙂

My friend is a friend from college and I’ve known her for a really long time! I think the fact that it’s a “big” birthday makes me feel like I need to get something extra special, ya know? But I think if I just get her a thoughtful gift everything will be OK.

I hope you had a nice Friday. This week went by so fast for me!

Woohoo!!! Congrats on your first trip out! It’s pretty daunting but like everything else with the baby, it gets easier the more you do it. Can’t believe we met up with you for high tea when Sarah was 3 months old. LOL that was kind of cray!

Connor Claire (and her new line of accessories) are totally rockin’. Love to my niece (and Tabs, too)!

Yay, so glad you had a good outing! Sounds like perfect weather to be outside. I’m already seeing Halloween candy in stores, so a PSL in September really isn’t that bad. 🙂

So glad you managed to get out with Connor Claire on your own. I remember taking Zack in the Baby Bjorn and hopping a cab (I was still living in the city)to get to Bloomingdales so mommy could do her things. It never failed, as soon as we got there, he’d start wailing!! Ok, run to the bathroom and feed him, quickly pick out a lipstick and head back home. Now that my baby is 15, I chauffer him to his hair cuts, after-school activities and I am the one wailing!!!(just kidding).
Not a fan of Pumpkin-Spice lattes, I like de-caf cappuccinos in the AM only. Such a traditionalist! Glad you had a chance to enjoy it, though. BTW, just got a glimpse of some Bobbi holiday goodies on Nordstrom’s site. My birthday list could be getting longer!!!! Be well!

Well done! Hey, having a baby and all the accoutrements can be very challenging, especially if said baby is not in the mood to be out and about. The car is worse because there’s no one too soothe/help when you’re driving! Give yourself credit for a successful first outing (and you’ll have many more. And probably some less successful – HAHA!).

I’m glad you got your PSL fix – any season is a good season for pumpkiny comfort. 🙂

I’m an absolutely terrible gift picker, so I’m no help to you. Sorry!

She is so darn cute! I like to give gifts people can use up, like chocolates, soap, lotion, candles, etc…instead of a trinket or clothing they may not like or use.

That’s a great idea, Rachel! I know my friend loves to eat, so maybe I’ll get her some gourmet goodies that she’ll enjoy.

      Thanks for the gift idea.

Hey Karen- nothing to be ashamed of! Babies are quite literally a handful and it is helpful to have more hands around!

I see you have the Chicco carrier in Lilly. Can you tell me (or even send pictures if you have a minute- which I understand you likely don’t!) how pink the dots are? Like so pink that it really wouldn’t work for a baby boy or subtle enough it really doesn’t matter? They look subtle but I can’t tell from stock photos online and there isn’t a live model to look at anywhere close to me.

    Thank you!!

      Hi Jill!

Here’s a couple snaps I took with my iPhone:

      chicco-car-seat

      chicco-car-seat-1

As you can see the dots aren’t too pink. In most lighting situations they look more like a grayish taupe; sometimes I can see pink peek through but it’s very subtle. We use it with the Uppa Baby Cruz Baby Stroller with the Chicco adaptor, so when we go places, all I have to do is pop the car seat out and then attach it directly to the Uppa Baby Cruz Stroller frame. It’s a very handy system. The car seat itself is light compared to a lot of the ones out there, too, which I like. If you have any other questions for me let me know. I absolutely love this car seat!

I was terrified to take my baby out for the first time too! Although I did it when she was just a few weeks old. She turned 4 months old last week so now I feel like a pro haha but I still think omg what if she has a mental breakdown in the middle of target what would I do?! Or what if I can’t get a door open with the stroller?! So many worries.

I’m late with a reply but I had to comment on Connor Claire’s lashes. Can we have a moment of silence for this girl’s lashes? Awesome! I hope you found a great gift for your friend. I don’t know anybody who will turn down a gift card in 2016. Holiday sales are going on and I would love a gift card or two right now.
