Thanks, gals, for recommending Dansko work clogs. I found a basic brown leather pair (nothing fancy) at DSW in their sale section on deeeeeeep discount — fifty bucks! They’re usually $109 at DSW and online, but for some reason this pair was the only pair I could find in the store at that price. Weird!
Anyway, I wasn’t sure about them at first because when I tried them on in the store, they looked a little high, the arch support felt almost uncomfortably stiff, and because the section that hugs the heel doesn’t come up as high as my tennis shoes do, I was afraid I’d fall out of them, but since they were over half off, I just went for it.
I’ve been wearing them for almost two weeks now, and my goodness, I love ’em! Every day my feet, back and my hips just feel better and better.
From the side, they look pretty high, but when you slip them on, they feel like flats. I was nervous about this at first, but I guess that substantial arch area is there for a reason, because my arches feel *extremely* secure and supported. I don’t feel like I’m being tipped forward like I do in heels.
The girls at the bakery recommended breaking them in for a few hours at a time, and then ramping up to a full day’s wear. They told me to bring my tennis shoes in and switch into them when my feet need a break, which I’ve been doing.
One last added bonus: The clogs are much easier to clean than mesh/fabric tennies. When flour or frosting ends up on my toes (which inevitably always happens), all I have to do is wipe it right off!
I can see why people who are on their feet all day long recommend these with such passion. They really do work!
My feet (and whole body, really) thank you again for suggesting them.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. I saw this at work yesterday, and it cracked me up! Just in case you were looking for spare parts for your unicorn…
P.P.S.

And thank you for the update! I’ve had back problems for years, so I’ve been thinking about getting a pair of these for everyday wear.
Unicorn parts- my 4 y/o niece would be hysterical, lol. “Nooo! Who cut up a unicorn?!?” ?
Karen says
Hi Suzanne,
I hope that these work out for you. Keep in mind there is a period when you have to break them in, and during that time I found stretching *really* helps. Even if you just do it for 10 minutes every night!
Diana says
Awesome! Makes such a difference right? What a deal too….
Next time my unicorn needs a new horn at least I know where to find it now ?
Karen says
Such a HUGE difference. My feet feel so different now!
Ruchita says
So glad you found comfortable shoes! I’m sure they make such a difference when you’re on your feet so much during the day.
DSW is my favorite place to shop for shoes. I always hit the clearance section and have found some great finds.
Happy Friday!
Karen says
I was talking with a co-worker the other day and I was shocked when she said that she didn’t enjoy shopping at DSW (too overwhelming). It’s still my fave place to go for shoes!
Linda says
I’m a nurse and I’ve been wearing Dansko’s for over 30 years! They really make a day on your feet easy. They aren’t pretty, but who cares. I spend a minimum of 8 hours a day on my feet and I’ve take comfort over style any day.
Karen says
I’m right there with you, Linda!
What kind of nursing do you do?
Renee says
Nurse here. Love them and have been wearing them for years. No support like Danskos!
Karen says
Yes, Renee! These shoes are so great!
Jennifer Osborn says
Love Danskos. Been wearing them since I was 40. That’s ten years now. Welcome to the club dear Karen. 🙂
When you live in Maine and you’re a woman and you turn 40, you start wearing Danskos. It’s sort of like a rite of passage thing. Or, maybe it’s only once you hit 40 that you can regularly pay over $100 for a pair of shoes?
Anyhoo, I have a pair of black patent leather Dansko clogs that are ten years old! I love them. I had a zebra print pair for a few years but they were just too too. So I ended up donating them.
I want a pair of red, or maybe even patent leather red!
Now that you know what size to buy, you can look for some deals on them online.
One of my friends says 6p.m.com is the place to get them.
I’ve been wondering for years where to get unicorn parts. I appreciate you sharing the trade secret.
Karen says
Thanks for the warm welcome, LOL!
Oh, and I would love a red pair, too!
Tatiana says
Now I need to know what unicorn parts are! The three types of shoes all my chef friends wear are Crocs (basically ugly), Dansko clogs and Ariat clogs. I’m partial to the Ariat because they have the same cushy soles as my paddock boots. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Karen says
I tried on Crocs and they didn’t feel as supportive as the Danskos. Will have to see if I can get a hold of the Ariats!
Are you still in Japan?
Tatiana says
Yup. Still in Japan. Wish I could spend even more time here. Between the walking (hit over 21,000 steps today) and the food I always lose weight here.
Sherry says
Karen, you look so cute in your Danskos!! I love those type of shoes. I have several pairs, because I used to be a pharmacy technician. I have the ones with no back, like a regular clog. I find them to be more comfy for me. The arch support in the classic style made my feet ache a little.
Karen says
Hi Sherry, I’ll have to try that style too! Hopefully I can find it as DSW. Are you a retired pharmacy tech? Or did you transition to a different career?
Sherry says
Hey Karen!! No, I’m not a pharmacy tech anymore. I did however do it for about 6 years. I’m not a big fan of the pharmaceutical industry as the years have gone by. I’m more into promoting naturopathic treatments and natural supplements. I was working for a fish oil/omega 3 company for a little while, but had some issues with herniated disks and fibromyalgia, and had to leave. Right now, I’m just a stay at home wife and mom. Ha Ha…and an old one at that. I’m turning 53 in February. I’m hoping that later in the year, I’ll go back to working a part-time job. We shall see. I’m hoping to do something with health and fitness.
Rachel says
Glad you found supportive shoes! Looking online at that brand I wonder if the more tennis shoe type version is as supportive as the clogs. I’ll have to try some next time I’m at DSW. Happy Friday!
Karen says
You’ll have to let me know if the tennies are any good! 🙂
Jodi K Perrigo says
Love Dansko!! I had a pair just like yours in burgandy for at least 15 years!! I still own a couple of other styles of Dansko, always comfortable! You look so cute in yours!
Karen says
Ooh, burgundy sounds fun! I would love to get a flashier color eventually. I hope mine last as long as yours did!
Ilaria says
First of all, you’re so cute with your work clothes on! Plus, these shoes seem really comfy and it’s definitely the most important thing when it comes to standing all day long.
Happy weekend 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Illaria! Hope you had a great weekend!
Michele DiCola says
Been wearing Dansko for years now . I’m a nurse and they also come in white !
Karen says
I had no idea they came in white! I’ve only seen them in brown and black and in funky prints.
Debbie says
I bought Dansko clogs for my daughter for a Christmas gift. They were a bit pricey but well worth the happy feet for my little Nurse who is on her feet for 12 hour shifts.
Karen says
That was so sweet of you, Debbie! I’m sure your daughter appreciates the thoughtful gift. 🙂
