OK, best Thanksgiving dish this year — what was it? I’m gonna have to go with the turkey, even though I’m usually all about the sides, which were also delish, but this year the turkey was fab. (Props to the Nugget market in Novato! You guys are rad!).

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I really needed not having to hit the road and being able to just spend time (eating) and relaxing here at home.

My brother made it up from the city and spent the night, which was nice. My parents and El Hub’s were out of town, so it was just us kids, and we don’t get to see each other that often. You know how it is… Everyone’s so busy doing their own thing.

We didn’t do much, really, other than eat. A TON. 🙂 We did make it to a late afternoon movie after all of us awoke from our food comas. We went to see Creed, the new Rocky boxing one with Michael B. Jordan?

We joked about going to see a boxing movie on Thanksgiving, but it was great. I’m really starting to appreciate the athleticism and skill involved in boxing.

The movie wasn’t cheesy at all like the zillion Rocky sequels that came out in the ’80s and ’90s (remember the one with Mr. T?), but it still ties into the legacy. Apollo Creed was Rocky’s adversary/friend in the original movies, and Michael B. Jordan plays his son. The Rocky character is his boxing trainer…and there’s a lot more stuff that goes on. Highly recommended, especially if you liked Rocky.

I didn’t really do any fun Black Friday shopping. The only thing I got was a daybed for when family visits after Baby Girl is born. I found one on sale at Sears. So, yup… Gotta be all practical and sh*t now. LOL!

OK, time to enter the giveaway…

I went to Barnes & Noble early yesterday morning to buy a Christmas gift. I had a really good coupon and am super busy the rest of this weekend, so Black Friday was the only time to go! The store wasn’t crowded at all (maybe 30 people max) and everyone in there was very calm.

I did most of it online this year and actually missed the excitement and energy of the mall on Black Friday. Didn’t miss the pushing and shoving though! I refuse to pay for shipping so I went to Ulta in person because they ship free but not to PO Boxes where I prefer to have my packages shipped. I’ve never had Ulta as my first stop on Thanksgiving night before so I got in on everything I was hoping to pick up which was nice. But I agree with you that in most cases online is better. Especially Victoria’s Secret – the selection is so much better online.

So, I spent too much basically 🙂 Glad to hear you had a great Thanksgiving!

Did you jump on any of the Black Friday sales?

    Nope!

How do you feel about onions?

I love them! Is there anything better than perfect French Onion Soup?

    How was Thanksgiving?

    Boring but tasty.

Who wears the pants in your family?

Pants are a tool of the man. If you mean metaphorically, it’s kind of equal though I cave way to much to my husband because he’s a real diva. I just can’t deal with his antics sometimes. He was pretty spoiled growing up so I pick my battles.

Someone who handles her (or his) makeup really well at work?

Nope, bunch of basic’s around here. I used to work at Nike though and there were quite a few fierce folks.

How has your skin been lately?

My skin was a bit freaky for a bit with under the skin pimples from trialing several new foundations and hormones. Luckily, gentle exfoliation and straight pure seabuckthorn oil is doing the trick!

Yes, I jumped on the Black Friday sales and had a blast! My favorite holiday of the year! I started with last Friday (week before Black Friday) Ulta sale – which I thought was even better than the ones on Black Friday! They gave away huge makeup bags full of great stuff, and deals like the Tarte Showstopper palette for $24 and Butter London Clutch for $20! I hit Ulta again on Black Friday and they had a lot of great stuff for $10 to $12 including a Lorac palette and Benefit eyeshadows and lipsticks! I also hit Sephora online and picked up a Tarte blush set, Clarisonic brush head, Living Proof and Alterna sets, and Origins mask set each for $10! Finally, I also hit Victoria’s Secret and got the BF Tote bag and a couple of tops marked down as well as irresistible pjs with free slippers. I saved up just enough to take advantage of the Sephora VIB deal coming up this week! I’m more happy with the deals I got this year than I am most years (even the years I camped overnight at Best Buy!)

We put out tons of peanuts and sunflower seeds for the squirrels and blue jays, and the usual mixed birdseeds for the other birdies. Padfoot the Bunny got his favorite berry yogurt chips and an extra large helping of mixed micro-greens.

I thank you for doing the blog and youtube as makeup is the most fun addiction ever and it is wonderful to see and learn about products and read what others have to say. Thanks

    Hey Karen,

Thanksgiving was lovely and being that we celebrate twice (the day of and the day after) it was even better. I must say that I had a great time with family and friends – the best thing I ate was the baked mac n cheese. My brother is the master of that dish and I make sure I get my fill.
Black Friday shopping was a no no for me this year and the only thing I purchased was some movies from Best Buy.

How do you feel about onions?
    I like onions especially grilled.

Who wears the pants in your family?

Per usual, I’m in it for the cranberries. I make a recipe with spices that I’m particularly fond of. But I also made the gravy ahead this time with the giblets and it was the best gravy I’ve ever made by far. Wouldn’t recommend hosting+cooking this late into pregnancy though, I must have spent 4+ hours on my feet and I was exhausted and sore.

I wasn’t planning on buying anything Friday, but the stellar deal on the MAC palettes along with some of the mini sets from Sephora (which I expected to be out of stock) were too good to pass up. My ongoing excuse is that after baby #2 is born, I won’t be buying much for several months, haha.

I can’t believe how many stores opened Thanksgiving night and didn’t even wait for Friday to do “black Friday”. I didn’t go shopping. I think some places need to be open for people who don’t have family, like the occasional coffee shop and the movies, and the employees can know that they are really helping out by being there. But for retail stores to ignore their employees needs and open on Thanksgiving evening for the almighty dollar, is plain greed, IMO. Kudos to stores like REI who closed for the day so their employees could have a little family time.

Creed was amazing!!!! I loved the cinematography in it. I’ve seen the Rocky movies and this was a perfect addition to the franchise. Michael B. Jordan and Stallone’s relationship was beliveable on screen and kept me invested the entire movie.

Did you jump on any of the Black Friday sales? – I’m not in the US so no crazy black friday deals but I did go to the mall on Saturday where the Christmas sales have started. Oh what fun!
How do you feel about onions? – I hate chopping them but love to eat them in just about anything and everything. Filipino cooking requires a lot of garlic and onions.
How was Thanksgiving? – No thanksgiving either. But I do make a great Turkey, which we sometimes cook during Christmas dinners. I follow a great brining recipe from a Martha Stewart Living magazine!
Who wears the pants in your family? – We are all very type A.
Someone who handles her (or his) makeup really well at work? – After two years of obsessively watching youTube makeup tutorials, I think I win best in makeup at our office (honestly is the best policy!).
How has your skin been lately? – I just got back from a dive trip last week where I got a face full of jellyfish. I had red welts all over my left cheek and down my neck for about a week. They’ve now healed to a light brown mark and I hope they fade fast. Otherwise everything else is a-ok!

I’m glad you had a good Thanksgiving with your brother! I didn’t go shopping yesterday although I did get up at 4 a.m. to watch my nieces so my sister-in-law could go & because my brother had an opening shift. The only shopping I did was at a couple of the drugstores in town today. I needed a facial scrub as I’ve been getting a few small spots around my mouth & chin recently. The scrub is by St Ives & it’s the pink lemon one. I love the texture & the smell. I also picked up a mattifying powder compact for under $2 on clearance. It’s the Wet’n’Wild X Fergie one & I figure even if it’s not a long-lasting powder, it was super-cheap!

I was really interested in the nude lipgloss set from MAC and it happened to be on sale at Nordstrom as they were price matching the discount from the MAC set. I’m worried about the lightest cremesheen lipglass shade in the set. Other than that I purchased items from Ulta last weekend when they had a sale on Friday and Saturday.

I’ve been trying to reduce, and hopefully eliminate, my impulse purchases and I’m proud to say that I stayed strong this weekend!

I’m so glad to hear that you had a great thanksgiving with your family.
I’m from a first generation immigrant family. So we don’t really celebrate thanksgiving the traditional American way. Although we do have turkey (sometimes). But the family time is always present. Spend as much time Roth them as you can, am I right? So instead we had what every other Chinese family does. FAMILY HOTPOT NIGHT!
I really love reading your blogs, they are so lively, really gives off your personality just like in your YouTube videos.

It took me a long time to like onions. We were adversaries for years, and I’d always ask for burgers and sandwiches onion-free. Then I started learning to cook in my teens and discovered cartelized onions. Game changer. Now I nearly always have a huge back of onions on my kitchen counter and pretty much put them in everything I cook.

Thanksgiving was so awkward! My cousin invited her boyfriend because he said all they do for Thanksgiving at his house is sit around on their phones at the table. She felt bad for him and wanted to show him what a normal family Thanksgiving was like. He didn’t talk to any of us, sat around on his phone during, and paid no attention when my cousin was telling stories (which had us all laughing to tears) While she was telling her stories, he was texting her repeatedly “I want to go home. I don’t fit in” He got agitated afterwards when she said to him “You probably would have fit in better if you weren’t on your phone the whole time.”

Not a fan of him at all.

My in laws always come to my house for every major holiday. They’re quite passive-aggressive towards me. This year’s example: They proudly presented me with a housewarming gift; matching coffee mugs that say Mr. Right and Mrs. Always Right. I accepted them with a half hearted smile although I was secretly annoyed. This morning, my husband grabbed them for coffee (we always use matching cups-silly, I know). I was angry at them and at the mug when I saw them this morning but, damn it! They keep the coffee really hot and they’re the perfect size and shape so…

I guess I’m keeping them. * sigh, eye roll*

My esthetician convinced me to have my whole face threaded and though I will admit that my face looked much brighter and my makeup went on smoothly, I ended up breaking out 🙁 I’ve been using my toner with salicylic acid after cleansing and boosting my moisturizer with argan oil and that has been helping clear things up. I will definitely be sticking with only getting my eyebrows and upper lip done in the future.

No Black Friday shopping for me. It’s great and all, but Cyber Monday is where it’s at. I love my local stores, but some of my favorite brands exist only online. Others still, like Sephora, don’t have a location within 50 miles of me, so it’s always nice to be able to take advantage of those deals online during the holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend! My spouse and I had a lovely long weekend. We ate a lot, and chose family side dishes that are usually served at Christmas dinner. What a treat! My spouse made turkey soup, so the fridge and freezer are stocked! I took advantage of a local restaurant’s gift certificate deal as well as the Bobbi Brown gift set deal (mostly for a gift for my mother-in-law). I was going to take advantage of Neiman Marcus’ $50 off sale, but their Internet problems caused me to walk away. Probably for the best. I’m eyeing another gift certificate deal that can be used at a consortium of local restaurants and I know Santa will bring me a Tom Ford lipstick because I’ve been a good girl all year. 🙂

It’s better to spend Black Friday shopping with friends to better utilize space and the amount of products we can all carry in our hands, but since I moved and my friends live in a different state, I have use been shopping around for cyber Monday deals which is almost as good, if not better, than waiting in the cold weather. My friends have also gotten smarter and shopped online instead.

I started taking a new medication for my blood pressure and it has a fabulous side effect of clearing up adult acne, so for the first time in my life, I have no blemishes! I’m assuming it is also why my oil production has finally calmed down – to the point that I actually had some major dry patches and had to change up my morning routine. Thank you for opening the contest to your international readers 😀 I am from Canada. I am still new to your blog and I like how you always swatch all the products you have and give us a good description of them, makes it easy for all of us readers to see the actual colour on skin. And I love the layout of your blog 🙂

Let me try to answer all the questions you have listed.

Did you jump on any of the Black Friday sales? No, there aren’t much great deals in Canada; tried to shop online at US stores but shipping and duty cost so much so didn’t end up getting stuff that i want.

How do you feel about onions? Onions are good and healthy.Just have to brush after eating, hehe

How was Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving was good, good times with family!

Who wears the pants in your family? My mom, lol

Someone who handles her (or his) makeup really well at work? most of the girls I work with has their makeup on point.

How has your skin been lately? breaking out, eating too much chocolate and candy this winter season, lol

My skin has been sensitive, oily, flaky and with acne. It gets worse when i eat junk food, cheese, sweets, sleep too late at night, stress and stuff. I’m trying to change…I’m using gentle cleansers, moisturizer, an urea cream to get the flakies off followed by manual exfoliation (i know manual isn’t that nice to the skin and it irritates it…but otherwise there;s many flakes left behind). Make-up doesn’t sit right in these bad days. It doesn’t sit great anyday, but sometimes it looks good for the first hours.

I went to our new shopping mall (closest to my block)and bought 2 pair of winter boots. Haha, guess where I bought them from. One from the boys’ aisle (as they got comfier and cheaper good shoes like these Kappa ones and smaller sizes than men lol -those start at 40-…i wear 38) and one from the teen/tween girls’ aisle from a Magic Lady brand (not very little girls as it had quite big sizes for a girl, that can easily fit most women, like 36, 37, 38, 39-european).

I wanted to buy some Aura serbian liquid lipstick (that turns matter) from dm (I’m romanian, I’m glad my neighbours started a make-up brand, hehe. We’re behind in that area, we only got some eye and lipliners and a lot of skincare) but they didn’t have the shades i wanted anymore.

I’m actually starting to like onions a lot more the older I get, as well as different incarnations/varieties of them. I like Spanish onions, because they’re sweet, red onions both cooked and raw…raw specifically in Greek salads. I also love green onions and lots of them in my Wonton soups. Shallots and a variety from the onion family I’ve only recently tried – leeks! LOVE leeks, because their taste is so mild. You can put a ton in a dish and they’re not overpowering. My nutrionist says I’m low in sulfur, so onions are apparently a good source!

Did you jump on any of the Black Friday sales? Yep. Mac and Colourpop.

How do you feel about onions? They’re good, garlic is better.

    How was Thanksgiving? Bittersweet.

Who wears the pants in your family? My cats?

Someone who handles her (or his) makeup really well at work? I am self-employed, so I guess that would be me?

How has your skin been lately? Hormonal.

I didn’t hop onto a single black Friday deal this year. Not even the $10 sephora sets that I love. For some reason, nothing really caught my eye this year. (Which is good cause I just spent a whole lot during the VIB sale.)

I came into work today, a bit early, all bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to tackle the day. About 10 minutes in, my *brandnew* iMac decides to have a temper tantrum and stop sending any emails. I had an extremely important, time sensitive email stuck in my outbox for 2 HOURS! Needless to say, I missed my cutoff, my boss is pissed and my email still isn’t working (nor has the important email reached its destination). Thank goodness my Gwen X UD palette is scheduled for delivery today and I have leftover turkey in the fridge for lunch 🙂

No I did not shop on Black Friday. I tried it once, and that’s an experience that I am not too eager to repeat.

Thanksgiving was nice, my family went to a buffet at a local restaurant so nobody had to cook or cleanup. Very relaxing!

I live in Canada so our Thanksgiving was in October, but it was very relaxing, lots of time spent eating and enjoying family!

Let’s see, so many possibilities for a comment: Black Friday shopping–I was recovering from a bad cold so I shopped online, scored some great deals on Amazon.
In more pressing matters, my skin, in particular, my cheekbone area, has been plagued by blackheads the past four or five months. Not a ton of them but enough to annoy me because the rest of my skin is in pretty good shape, wrinkles not withstanding. Apparently the cheek blackheads are a hormonal side effect from going through menopause. #middleagerocks

Thanks for the Creed movie review. I really want to see it. I love boxing, loved the Rocky movies, loved Apollo Creed.
If you want another boxing movie to watch, rent The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. Great movie and both actors were great as was the supporting cast. I was never a huge Christian Bale fan before this movie but I’ve got to say that was the probably the best acting I’ve ever seen in my life.

I bought like 3 things on Black Friday, but it just didn’t seem worth the hassle of being out around the people.

Got gifts for my kids online. Then ventured to a used video game and dvd store because they wanted to go and was glad we did because we got some good deals.
    Nothing for myself though!
My husband was joking that his Black Friday shopping was done. 20% off furnace filters online lol!

I tried the shattered glass nail art trend for Thanksgiving and am absolutely in love with the look! I did it on a vampy red holographic polish but I can’t wait to try it with a nude like Lucy’s Stash did!

Let’s talk skin! I’ve been getting into asian skincare recently, and I LOVE it. Getting my mom a bunch of stuff for Christmas to get her into it too!
