The Lust List, Vol. 4: Stuff I Kinda Want

April 11th, 2017 by Karen 35 Comments

Still on the hunt for the perfect black-and-white striped tee! And, apparently, some other things too…

The Lust List, Vol. 4: Stuff I Kinda Want

  1. Caslon Relaxed Slub Knit U-Neck Tee ($25) — I kinda want a Caslon relaxed v-neck tee now because I’ve given up on the Madewell tee, since a few of you gals mentioned getting holes in yours. 🙁 *sigh*

I already have some Caslon tees that I wore all through my pregnancy with Coywolf, and they’re still in great shape, so hopefully this one with the stripes would hold up well.

The only things is…the stripes are pretty thick, so I’m afraid I might feel like a referee in it. I wonder if there’s a version with thinner stripes.

P.S. Who knew one could be so picky about stripe width?

  2. Beautyblender Pro ($20) — I recently took a close look at my Beautyblender for the first time in ages, and MAN! — it’s tow up! I think Tabs went to town on it when I wasn’t looking, because there are huge chunks missing from the side of it!

How do these things happen right in front of my face? I have no idea.

So I need/want another one (ideally, a black one).

I do love the hot pink ones, though, but the black ones don’t look as dirty after you’ve used them.

  3. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino All Over Body Spray ($67) — Yes, I thoroughly recognize that spending almost $70 for a fancy Tom Ford Body Spray is completely redonk, since it’s basically a bougie lady’s version of a body splash, but I can’t help it!
  4. Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips ? Lipstick in Hot Emily ($34) — Forever. That’s how long I’ve been wanting to try Charlotte Tillbury makeup. Should I dip my toe into the pool with this coral lippie?
  5. Estée Lauder Defining Powder Brush ($47) — What is this u-shaped brush contraption by Estée Lauder, and why do I feel compelled to run it across my cheeks?
  6. Hourglass Illume Sheer Color Trio ($62) — I’m currently on a cream blush kick, which is why this Hourglass trio of blush, bronzer and highlighter caught my eye. I have the blush/bronze duo version from waaaaay back (seriously, it’s been years), so it’s gotta be time to swap it out for something new… Right?? That’s what I’m telling myself, haha!
  7. Stila Aqua Glow Watercolor Blush in Water Lily ($26) — Speaking of blush, have you tried Stila Watercolor Blush? I really like the look of the rose shade, Water Lily.
  8. Herbivore Botanicals Coco Rose Body Coconut Oil Polish ($36) — I have yet to sniff this Coco Rose Body Coconut Oil Polish by Herbivore, but judging by its name, I hope/bet it smells otherworldly.
  9. Lo & Sons Catalina Deluxe Small Bag ($128) — I’m completely committed to packing light when I go to Oahu in June, and this bag by Lo & Sons has a detachable compartment on the bottom for shoes and sundries (!). How brilliant and super cool. Plus, you can slip it onto the handles of your carry-on luggage too.

That’s what I’m currently coveting. How ’bout you?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I hear you on the wants thing! I’m currently trying to edit down my VIBR sale cart and I went from $1440 to about $350. I had a TF body spray in there too cause I hear good things. It’s rare I like a full on floral perfume but Fleur Di Portifino was so good, I thought the body spray might be worthwhile. I’m also tempted by that Hourglass palette because I thought it was LE!!!!

Other than that I’ve got 3 bite glosses, the CR prickly pear mask, DE TLC Babyfacial, SR CEO serum, and Blithe Pressed serum. I can probably skip the Blithe until winter though cause I hear it’s pretty heavy.

I also need all of NARS new summer collection 🙁 NARS has just been my jam for the last few collections! I also need some kbeauty stuff, some The Ordinary stuff, and Jo Malone/TF everything. I gotta be more practical though and spread my discressionary dollah around, like in the house or with expereinces or something other than beauty!

    Hi Karen,
Just FYI the black beauty blender does not have the same texture as the pink one. The finish is not as flawless. My favorite beauty blender is the nude one, it has the best texture and it doesn’t bleed when you wash it. Hope you have a wonderful week.

      Hi Kelly,

I used to have the pink one back in the day until Tabs lost it. (LOL!) I didn’t realize they have different finishes. Maybe I’ll put the nude one on my list for the Sephora VIB sale. The only thing I’m worried about, though, is it getting dirty, you know?

I’m also really into cream blushes right now! I love the look of the Stila Aqua Glow Watercolor blush – I just picked up a Stila Convertible Color and really like it. I just got my Sephora 15% off coupon in the mail for the 18th through the 24th. I have a list going, although usually Ulta sends me a Platinum coupon this time of year too, so I’m keeping that in mind.

You have the Burt’s Bees lip oil pictured, and I have one and quite like it! Nice finish, not sticky, although it could be a bit more moisturizing IMO.

      Hi Chelsea,

Oh, I can’t believed I spaced and didn’t write about the lip oil! I saw an advertisement for it in Nylon and want to try it. How’s the flavor/scent situation?

    Hi Karen,
Have you ever tried the Merona Ultimate Vees from Target? Its my favorite (aside from the vintage tees) line of shirts esp for summer. The fabric is dreamy -cotton, modal and spandex and its substantial. It drapes nicely, nice V-neck cut and very affordable especially when they have the promotions in-store/online, and/or Cartwheel. I have them in all colors and stripes including in the ultimate tanks and in the ultimate LS for winter.
Happy Tuesday to you and yours! 🙂 xo

      Hi HeraKitty,

I haven’t! That is a really cute shirt (I hope it’s not too clingy). How does it hold up? I’m so over tees that get holes after just a few months.

Speaking of Target, did you happen to get any of the Victoria Beckham items? I was going to go today but got caught up in my to-do list.

        Hi there!
They are pretty sturdy. I size up one size for more room and less cling. My mom who is self-conscious of her belly loves this type of shirt from Merona.
Are the holes on your shirt on the bottom/front waist area? The small holes at the bottom of shirts are caused by the shirt repeatedly rubbing between a pants’ button/hardware and a hard surface all day (counter tops/desks). Front tuck saves it. Also wearing flat front bottoms like leggings/yoga pants ?? I also do not wash shirts together with jeans or any item of clothing that has zippers on them. So far- no holes.

I only wanted one thing from the VBxTarget collection. I forgot about the launch at midnight but I went to the store near my home and found one. Its the Blush Jacquard Bomber Jacket. BUT I did buy baby stuff for my niece who is coming on June 12. My sister is due to give birth thru CS. I got the grey bunny onesie with matching blankie and booties; the gray sweatpant set with the bunny tail detail and the bib set. Im so excited to see her in them! 🙂 It will be great for you and Connor Claire to wear complimenting outfits from the collection esp for Easter Sunday brunch.

        Have a good night! XO

Charlotte Tilbury lip pies are amazing. You won’t be sorry if you take the plunge. I’ve been very impressed with her foundation and actually all her stuff. Luxe like Tom Ford but much higher quality and costs less.

Ooh, thanks for the skinny on Charlotte Tilbury’s stuff! Do you have a particular lipstick that you love? I have a list…

I have the matte lipstick in Walk of Shame – it’s neutral but not nude so it goes with everything but doesn’t wash me out. I wear it almost every day. It’s a creamy matte that lasts well, wears evenly, and doesn’t dry me out or accentuate dry/chapped lips. I also like the Pillow Talk lippies – they are more creamy/shiny and don’t last as well but are beautiful colors and feel nice on the lips. B**ch Perfect is a good pinky nude and the reds are gorgeous.
Also her brow gel (I think it’s called Legendary) is really great – it’s a tiny skinny brush, which I like because it doesn’t smear or clump. Holds and colors brows without being stiff or crunchy. Magic foundation is amazing if you can get a color match – her foundations are yellow which isn’t kind to my neutral/cool self – good coverage, pretty luminous satin finish.

Wow, thank you for this! I’m going to ask for a Nordstrom gift card for my birthday in June, and now I know what makeup to get, YAY! I’m excited to hear her foundations are yellow based.

I’m the last person in the world who needs another nude lipstick (seriously), but Walk of Shame sounds great. I have a hard time finding neutrals that aren’t too beige or light. Plus the texture sounds perfect!

Also… I don’t know if I’ve thanked you yet, but thank you so much for all of your wonderful advice while I was pregnant and after Connor was born. You’ve been so helpful, and I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hmm black beauty blender? Yes please! Those Carlson tees look nice but you’re right about the stripes, too wide! What about Gap or Old Navy, they seem like striped shirts people. Looking at you’re earlier comments, I got the satin floral dress from the Victoria Beckham Target collection and it’s really cute!

      Hi Rachel,

I’ve bought a couple shirts from both Old Navy and Gap and they got holes too. All I want is a shirt with thin stripes and no holes, wahh! LOL

I’m going to stop by Target today; hopefully there will still be some Victoria Beckham things to look at.

That travel bag looks interesting and I’m in need of a good overnight bag, so I’m definitely going to check it out.
Not sure what to make of that Estee Lauder brush. If you get one and figure what it’s good for, you’ll need to post about it.
Here’s a couple of links to tees on Levi’s site. I ordered a sweater at Christmas and thought the quality was good. Had to return it because of sizing issues. Followed their size chart recommendations and the sweater was HUGE. Short girl problems. Not sure how the sizing on the tees runs.

      Hi Tatiana,

There is also a larger size Catalina Deluxe which looks lovely, too. I’m hesitant to buy it because if I have extra room I know I’ll just keep putting stuff in my bag! The site has a really useful list with the bags on ladies of different heights:

At 5’1″ I think I will probably just get the smallest one. With airlines shrinking the size of allowable bags in the overhead bins, it’s just one more reason to get the small one. It looks like it holds quite a bit anyway. I like the bottom section.
Hope you find some striped tees you like.

You can never be too picky about the width of the stripes, they make or break the tee. And these would be too wide for my taste as well.
Other than that I don’t have many beauty items on my list, skincare mainly, but my stash is overflowing and I need most of my money for the house/kids and office clothes, so I am trying to be good and only get what I really need.

Karen, that Estèe Lauder brush is really weird… so, I don’t need it but I want it. The craziest one I own has two sides and is bicolor from Avon Cosmetics, one side for highlighter, one for contouring, so that I can use both products in one step, at the same time… I need more practice with it tho.

You’ve got to try Charlotte Tilbury lippies! I love them, esp the mattes. I think Miranda May (my spring summer fave) would totally look gorgeous on you if you want something pink-coral (I personally liked it better than Hot Emily)! I also love the Eyes to Mesmerise series. It stays put and the color is gorgeous (I’ve Veruschka). The light wonder foundation is nice too but a bit too heavy for me in summer.

On my wishlist is a cool bikini (going for a vacay soon!), and hitting the Sephoras in Italy! Pretty sure I’ll splurge on NARS and Marc Jacobs. Also my colleague is traveling to Korea, so I’m checking out the must haves of K-Beauty ?.

I have several (at least 10, stocked up during a sale) of the Madewell tees and no holes. Its all I wear. I don’t dry them though, my husband is 6’5 and does not enjoy wearing crop tops so no drying t-shirts in my house. I have not gotten any holes in tees since I stopped drying them. I actually dried several Madewell tees a few weeks ago on accident and they are all still fine.

I can’t believe you haven’t tried any Charlotte Tilbury! The nearest norcal Nordstrom that carries a large amount of her line is pretty close to you! (I’ve thought about making the almost 2 hr drive there just to swatch…and let’s be real, BUY) I ordered the pressed powder and a color chameleon eyeshadow pencil online and I love both. I want to try an eyeshadow quad, the bronze and glow palette, the lipsticks, the brow products….the list goes on! I can’t wait for you to try and swatch them for us 🙂
