So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start. ?
1. Matte or cream lipstick?
Cream — because my lips are at the *pinnacle* of their winter dryness right now.
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
Sephora, and I’d get things I regularly use and adore, like two bottles of Kate Somerville Anti-Bac Clearing Lotion, which would be $84 before tax, so I’d have enough left over to grab a vanilla shake at In-n-Out afterwards, ha ha! Or, I’d get one bottle of Anti Bac ($42), a Clinique Pretty Easy Pen ($22), and two packages of Shiseido Facial Cotton ($10 each), for a grand total of $84.
Or maybe…just maybe…I’d throw caution to the wind and try some new things, like the Jose Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation ($45) and Vibrancy Concealer ($28) I’ve been dying to try.
3. Cowlicks?
SO MANY.
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year?
Hmm… Well, yesterday I wrapped a big ol’ 48-ounce thermos, and I must say…I didn’t expect it to be quite as oddly shaped as it was. In fact, I actually ended up cheesing out and used a gift bag and tissue paper for it.
OH! Thank goodness for those Marshalls gift bags, man!
5. New or old?
New! I’m so ready for new.
It’s a hot pink unicorn kind of Christmas
Hi, friend! Happy Christmas Eve ?? day! Ya know…I actually feel the holiday buzz in the air, which is so great because, honestly, I usually just feel waves of stress on the 24th. I’m normally packing for two road trips to see family (we’re only driving to one place this year!), wrapping last-minute gifts (I finished yesterday!) and making food (also done yesterday, WOO HOO!). This year, it’s all done, and I actually feel excited. Almost relaxed. ?
One of the highlights for me this year has been wrapping gifts with this silly unicorn wrapping paper (at the top) I found at Michaels, which I initially got for Connor’s presents but have been using for everyone…even the dudes, ha ha!
How are things going over there? Are you traveling this year or staying local?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. Matte or cream lipstick?
Something sheer, finish doesn’t matter as much.
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
Ulta!
3. Cowlicks?
Yup! One right up front.
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year?
I’ve wrapped so few presents this year, LOL! A cat treat jar? I put it in a bag though.
5. New or old?
Depends!
Karen says
Hey friend!
You working today? I hope whatever you’re doing involves some fur friends. Speaking of fur friends, Tabs held me hostage this morning in bed! He snugged right next to my tummy and absolutely refused to move so I was forced to sleep in. The nerve. LOL!
Chelsea says
No work, I’m off until the new year. We’re at my parents’ house, Hettie is with us, and my dog sister Tinkerbell, and my mom’s kitties Houghton and Lady Higgins. Lots of fur baby time, but I’m excited to go home to Jiji.
Ruchita says
1. Matte or cream lipstick?
Cream. My lips also get so dry this time of year.
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
I was just at Target recently but didn’t have time to browse the aisles so I’d probably shop there.
3. Cowlicks?
Luckily, no.
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year?
Probably some of the cat toys I bought for a Secret Santa Claws gift exchange.
5. New or old?
New! I am ready for a fresh start next year.
Merry Christmas Eve! I’m glad you’re feeling relaxed and prepared. There will be 7 people coming over for Christmas tomorrow so I’ve been doing a lot of cooking and prep work. This is the first time I’ve hosted that many people. I’m sort of anxious for the day to come so I can get it over with. I know that doesn’t sound very Christmasy, but I’m trying to find time to relax and enjoy the season too. Hope you and the family have a great holiday!
Karen says
I remember you mentioning that last week. Hosting is always nerve wracking, but you’re going to do great. Hey, how are the kitties doing? Do you think they’ll come out to play with the guests?
Ruchita says
Thanks for the support! Unfortunately I just talked to my Mom and she has some kind of stomach bug so my parents won’t be able to make it. Luckily it is all just family members and everyone is pretty laid back.
The kitties are loving all the boxes around lately from online shopping! Louis is the most friendly and will make sure to greet all the guests. Ella holds court on the couch and expects everyone to come to her. 🙂
Nina always thinks it’s the Grim Reaper when the doorbell rings so she’ll probably hide out in the bedroom.
I can’t remember if I mentioned that we have a 4th kitty again. He’s a handsome panther named Billy. And he has extra toes! He was formerly feral and we’ve been working with him for about a year to get comfortable around people. We transitioned him inside over the last couple of months when it started to get colder. He’s made a real transition from being a scardey cat to a love bug!
Does Tabs enjoy the Christmas tree? Surprisingly all my kitties ignore it!
Rachel says
1. Matte or cream lipstick?
Cream – my lips are very dry and flaky right now too.
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
I think Sephora to treat myself, normally I’m a drugstore kind of gal though.
3. Cowlicks?
Not really.
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year?
A Yeti tumbler that my boyfriend is giving to his boss. Luckily I kept some boxes around from online shopping!
5. New or old?
Ready for a new year!
Karen says
Hey Rachel,
I have the purr-fect Sephora treat for your dry lips: Hourglass Lip Oil. It’s super $$$ but great at restoring moisture to seriously flaky lips. Whenever mine are feeling extra dry I’ll put a little on before bed and in the morning my lips are so much better.
Anyway, I hope you have a great rest of your day. I’ve got to get packed for our overnight trip (gifts, food, baby stuff), but other than that I’m just chillin!
Lupe says
1. Matte or cream lipstick?
Matte! The creams always fade on me or just don’t look okay. 🙁
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
Sephora! I’d get some NARS blushes and a Fenty liquid eyeliner.
3. Cowlicks?
I haven’t had one lately!
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year?
A toy car or some play doh probably!
5. New or old?
New!
Michele DiCola says
Hi Karen,
I am rocking that Jade oLive eyeliner along w NYX red. I can believe I pulled it off.
So, Matt Lipstick. Stays on better.
Ulta , because they have high end and drugstore brands.
I have so many cowlicks and curls. I have Huge Rollers in now. Hoping for smooth !
Weirdest thing was a telescope. I bought a huge bag from the dollar store but it ripped like four times. Ugh!
Looking for the NEW !
Merry Christmas !
Kate & Bree says
Merry Christmas, Karen! Doing this to stay sane!
1. Matte or cream lipstick?
Cream. Dear god, cream. Matte looks bad on me.
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
Target! I’m in need of refilling my Pacifica moisturizer, eucerin lotion, and a few other staples.
3. Cowlicks?
2, I think.
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year?
A toy horse I got for my nephew. It ticked me off actually and I’m quite a calm wrapper.
5. New or old?
I’m so ready for a new year you have no idea. This year has been baaaad.
Erin says
1. Matte or cream lipstick?
Cream please!
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
Hard to say, probably Target RN for last minute gifts!
3. Cowlicks?
Plenty!
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year?
Luckily everything this year has been in fine fitted box or easily stash-able in a gift bag!
5. New or old?
I’m ready for a whole bunch of new!
Savannah says
1. Matte or cream lipstick?
– cream! Or anything moisturizing! My lips have not fully recovered from my infection last year. A matte lipstick would be like torture!
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
-Sephora. And I’d get… a perfume or perfume roller balls for variety. I currently don’t have any Sephora must have in my collection. I prefer HBC (MAC, Lancôme, CHANEL)
3. Cowlicks?
-hmm, sometimes.
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year?
-I got lazy and put everything in bags this year!
5. New or old?
-new! Definitely new!!
Eileen says
1. Matte or cream lipstick? Definitely cream. At my age my lips have lost volume and have too many lines to be attractive in mattes. When I do find a matte shade I can’t live without (lol), I wear it with lip balm so it really isn’t matte anymore.
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora? Sephora
3. Cowlicks? I have one but it doesn’t really bother me as it gets covered up with my bangs.
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year? This year everything was easy wrapping or put into a gift bag.
5. New or old? Well, since I’m old (lol) I’ll go with new! I’m always ready for something new.
Happy holidays to you, Karen, and to all your readers.
Rachel Runyan says
OMG, I love the unicorn wrapping paper! Have a Merry Christmas!
1. Matte or cream lipstick? Cream looks and feels better, I think.
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
Sephora
3. Cowlicks? None
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year? A big, round tub of Twizzlers for my brother. It didn’t fit in any of my gift bags.
5. New or old? I’m ready for new.
Stephanie Smith says
1. Matte or cream lipstick? Cream, it feels nicer on the lips.
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora? Sephora. But I don’t know what I’d get. Something new!
3. Cowlicks? None.
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year? A straw hat for my Dad! I ended up just doodling a mandala on the bag it came in. Turned out pretty cute!
5. New or old? New! It’s time for new!
My family did their Christmas today, so I’m done! It was wonderful and I’m glad it’s over! I ate alllllllll the food, now I need to diet and nap and diet and nap! Lol!
Susan C. says
1. Matte or cream lipstick?
Cream. The matte look has not been kind to my dry kisser.
2. You have $100 to spend on beauty products. Would you go to CVS, Ulta, Target or Sephora?
Ulta! I’d get a new Anastasia palette (perhaps the Soft Glam, $42), Stila Heaven’s Hue highlighter in Kitten ($32), Makeup Revolution’s Conceal & Define Full Coverage Conceal & Contour ($7), and I’d like to try the Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray ($18) on my limp locks. Actually right now I still have 20% off…hmm, maybe we could add a NARS blush.
3. Cowlicks?
Luckily, I seem to have dodged that bullet.
4. Weirdest or most oddly shaped thing you wrapped for the holidays this year?
I had to pick up a 6 pound pork roll (basically a giant sausage) for my parents. This item also needed to stay refrigerated and make it through the six and a half hour car ride to their house. Needless to say, it did not get wrapped.
5. New or old?
Old. New.
Can’t decide, which is nothing new.
Ericca says
1. Matte or cream lipstick? Matte
