So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Cream or powder eyeshadow?
I like ‘em both, but today let’s go with cream.
2. Last place you went shopping for beauty products?
Ulta. I bought shampoo and conditioner before leaving for Hawaii last month.
3. Do you have a set cleaning schedule?
No, but I could use one that listed chores by day, week and month. I’d especially love to find a realistic cleaning schedule for busy working moms! I looked online recently and just got annoyed; all the schedules seemed to disregard the time it takes to do other things like making dinner, getting kids ready for bedtime, prepping for the next day, etc.
4. What are the typical sounds in your neighborhood?
When there isn’t construction happening, the usual sounds are birds singing, turkeys gobbling (or fighting!) and the occasional dog barking. There’s a church around the corner that plays beautiful music at certain times of the day, too.
5. Cardio or weight lifting?
Weight lifting. I like the mental challenge!
6. What do you like to listen to when you’re driving?
Whatever’s on the radio station at the moment. Pop music if I’m feeling perky or yacht rock if I need something chill.
7. Do you cut or trim your cuticles?
Nope! I know people who do it, though, and it seems like a never-ending task.
8. How’d you sleep last night?
Actually pretty good considering we’re still on the couch. LOL! I didn’t move and empty out as many boxes as I wanted to last weekend, so we haven’t gotten around to setting up the beds yet. Hopefully this coming weekend that’ll all get sorted out.
9. Something nice that happened to you recently?
I clipped Rosie’s claws and she was actually really cooperative! She was super chill, so I rewarded her with lots of treats.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Happy Monday!
1. Cream or powder eyeshadow? I do like both but prefer powder shadow with a satin finish. Some cream shadows feel to heavy on my crepey lids.

3. Do you have a set cleaning schedule? Usually, I do most of my cleaning on Sunday.
4. What are the typical sounds in your neighborhood? In the Spring you can hear birds chirping, all other times cars going by, dogs barking and kids playing.
5. Cardio or weight lifting? Mostly cardio.
6. What do you like to listen to when you’re driving? Good old fashion 70’s rock, though lately I have been listening to some bluesy Tedeschi Trucks Band and The Black Pumas. They do some great covers of classics.

8. How’d you sleep last night? I am menopausal so sleeping is negligible.
9. Something nice that happened to you recently? I was doing my usual afternoon walk with my husband and one of our neighbors who was also walking told me I looked amazing. That made my afternoon.
I hope you had an enjoyable Easter. I am counting the days when I can stop eating matzah.
Be well.
Jaclyn says
1. Even though all my shadows are powder, I’m going to go with cream for this question! I’d love to try one.
2. Ulta I believe. I picked up my favorite eyeliner recently.
3. Not really. I’m bougie enough to have a cleaning company that comes in once a month which helps a lot with the more “deeper” cleaning chores, but I still do all the day to day. I don’t know why my kitchen gets so grimy so fast!
4. We live next to the woods so there are birds chirping, and the occasional bleat from the neighbor’s goats. Sometimes we hear an engine revving on the road close by.
5. I prefer weight lifting, but am trying to incorporate more cardio.
6. The radio, usually a top 40 station, but I’m known to pop in a CD early 2000’s style. 😀
7. Not really, sometimes when I’m bored or feeling “extra” when cutting my nails.
8. Good!
9. My friend visited and gave me a BUNCH of makeup! She is kind of a makeup hoarder and I loved inheriting her unused cast offs. 😀
Tatiana says
1. Cream or powder eyeshadow? Powder. I find them easier to blend.
2. Last place you went shopping for beauty products? Sephora – Got the Biossance Copper Peptide Serum.
3. Do you have a set cleaning schedule? Sorta. Although it seems like the laundry is never ending.
4. What are the typical sounds in your neighborhood? I live a block away from the civic center and city pool, so I hear swings squeaking and children laughing on the play ground and when there are swim meets I hear the starter horn and then lots of cheering. Other than that it’s mostly crows and train horns.
5. Cardio or weight lifting? I prefer my heavy lifting days to the days when I do more reps with lighter weights to make cardio.
6. What do you like to listen to when you’re driving? Nothing. I like peace and quiet and being able to concentrate when driving.
7. Do you cut or trim your cuticles? I gnaw on them and they’re getting more calloused by the day.
8. How’d you sleep last night? Really well. It was the first night in a week and a half where I wasn’t stuffed up from the cold Dear Husband gave me.
9. Something nice that happened to you recently? Nibbler got in my lap as I was having my tea this morning. She let me scratch her ears and neck for a few good minutes. She’s usually not a lap cat. I think she still misses Dear Daughter.
Brigid says
1. Cream or powder eyeshadow? Cream but lately I’ve been loving the Chanel liquid eyeshadow in rose quartz and desert wind.
2. Last place you went shopping for beauty products? online – Honua Store
3. Do you have a set cleaning schedule? Our bungalow is pretty small so it’s fairly easy to keep up with. I just do a clean each weekend, with a midweek sweep of the hardwood floors for pet hair.
4. What are the typical sounds in your neighborhood? Lawnmowers, the neighbor’s dog excited when Dad comes home from work, and the boys three doors down laughing as they play in the yard.
5. Cardio or weight lifting? Weights.
6. What do you like to listen to when you’re driving? Chicago has a surprisingly bad selection of radio stations if you don’t like Polka or speak Spanish. Normally I listen to classical.
7. Do you cut or trim your cuticles? Nope
8. How’d you sleep last night? Good! I finally found a bedtime tea that relaxes me without giving me nightmares (that was the Valarian). Drowsy Bear from Kobuc Coffee in Anchorage (they hand blend their teas and will ship anywhere). It tastes wonderful!
9. Something nice that happened to you recently? Easter is tough as that’s when my only brother died a few years ago from cancer. He hid candy Easter eggs around the house, even when I was all grown up. So my husband got up early and hid the candy eggs for me, just like my brother would have done.
Kate & Bree says

4. What are the typical sounds in your neighborhood? Birds, horses, and dogs. And, some nights, the hills are alive with the sound of music–coyote music, that is. They can really get to howling.

6. What do you like to listen to when you’re driving? Classical or the news.

9. Something nice that happened to you recently? Last week I received a number of emails from friends that I hadn’t heard from in awhile. It was good to get caught up with their news.
E.D. says
1. Cream or powder eyeshadow? Powder (with primer). Cream and liquid either slides all over or doesn’t blend.
2. Last place you went shopping for beauty products? I think I went into an Ulta last summer looking for something that I didn’t manage to find. Other than that, it’s all been online since the pandemic.
3. Do you have a set cleaning schedule? Not really, we keep a running list of things that need to be done and set timers for cleaning bursts.

7. Do you cut or trim your cuticles? I do have them trimmed during the occasional pedicure, but I really try not to cut the cuticles on my fingers.

9. Something nice that happened to you recently? It seems like I did not get COVID from a recent likely exposure, so that’s cool.
Susan C. says
1. Cream or powder eyeshadow?
Cream. I’m going through a swipe-and-go phase.
2. Last place you went shopping for beauty products?
Ulta.
3. Do you have a set cleaning schedule?
Not really. I do adhere to Mopping Monday, mostly because I’m a fan of alliteration and enjoy the scent of Mr. Clean.
4. What are the typical sounds in your neighborhood?
Birds chirping, the whir of traffic in the distance and an occasional plane flying overhead.
5. Cardio or weight lifting?
Cardio.
6. What do you like to listen to when you’re driving?
I switch between the local non-profit radio station, a pop oldies station and an alternative rock station. Oh, and I also have a pile of CDs I occasionally put in. Those range from ABBA to the Buzzcocks.
7. Do you cut or trim your cuticles?
No, I’m afraid I’ll damage them somehow.
8. How’d you sleep last night?
So-so. Sleeping in the guest bedroom at my brother’s house is always iffy.
9. Something nice that happened to you recently?
I visited my brother over the weekend. I haven’t seen him since Thanksgiving so it was nice to just hang out.
Amy says
1. Cream or powder eyeshadow?
Today, I’ll say powder. Satin finish.
2. Last place you went shopping for beauty products?
Hmm…Target?! I bought body wash there a few days ago.
3. Do you have a set cleaning schedule?
Housecleaners twice a month. I put myself through college by cleaning houses (and bring a line cook), so I appreciate all they do and pay them well!
4. What are the typical sounds in your neighborhood?
Street car ding. Wind off Lake Erie. Traffic. Dog barks, kids shouting, sometimes birds early in the morning or evening.
5. Cardio or weight lifting?
Long walks! And bike riding in the summer—so I guess that’s cardio.
6. What do you like to listen to when you’re driving?
Pandora. My husband created 5 billion stations with immense variety, so I pick one. Or cycle through the FM stations. Or listen to audio clips of my husband singing. He has a really beautiful voice.
7. Do you cut or trim your cuticles?
I have in the past but found it much more effective and low-maintenance and nicer looking to push them back often with a cuticle stick. Then use nail oil—a constant catch-22, because it’s the perfect nail and hand moisturizer, but I read and handle books constantly, and the oil would transfer if I were too use it too frequently. A daily battle, lol!
8. How’d you sleep last night?
Pretty well, gratefully.
9. Something nice that happened to you recently?
I gave a report for work to a lovely, beaming, appreciative group I rarely have the opportunity to see. Such a rare pleasure!
So happy to hear your floors are done!
Pamela says
1. Cream or powder eyeshadow?
powder
2. Last place you went shopping for beauty products?
Ulta
3. Do you have a set cleaning schedule?
Not really. I wish to be more organized and make (and adhere to) a schedule but I always fail. I just clean when things look shabby.
4. What are the typical sounds in your neighborhood?
My sons yelling at the top of their lungs for no good reason.
5. Cardio or weight lifting?
Cardio because it makes me sweat which makes me think I’m working hard.
6. What do you like to listen to when you’re driving?
Sirius/XM radio. When the kids are in the car, it’s Kids Place Live or Kids Bop Radio. When that drives me bonkers, I make them listen to Lithium for all the grunge/alternative music of my heyday. Or the 1st wave station. When the boys are not in the car it’s Howard Stern until school lets out.
7. Do you cut or trim your cuticles?
No and no. I read cutting causes germs to get into your nail bed.
8. How’d you sleep last night?
Solid.
9. Something nice that happened to you recently?
Hmmm… I got a coupon for a free pair of panties from Victoria’s Secret.
Stephanie Smith says

2. Last place you went shopping for beauty products? Target, I bought leave in conditioner and sunscreen for a last minute road trip we’re on.
3. Do you have a set cleaning schedule? I want to, but I usually do what needs to be done and that’s it.

5. Cardio or weight lifting? Ha! No, I like weight lifting, it feels good and it shows results quickly.
6. What do you like to listen to when you’re driving? 70’s music, or podcasts.
7. Do you cut or trim your cuticles? No. It grosses me out to see them cut.
8. How’d you sleep last night? My husband and I are in a road trip and we slept at our friends’ house. Slept great!
9. Something nice that happened to you recently? We’re on a road trip because we closed on a house! We’ll be moving from central CA to Northern Michigan! It snowed in us yesterday in MI, two weeks ago in CA it was 97 degrees. It’s a big change. I’m excited!
