So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace?
I should probably buy another stick of dark brown eyeliner because I have a feeling my Hourglass one is about to peace out. Side note, I’ve discovered that I’m a bougie eyeliner kind of girl. The last few inexpensive ones I’ve purchased made my eyes itch, gah!
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated?
No. I did go through a phase a few years ago when I loved brushed up, bushy brows, but I don’t love the look enough now to make a commitment to it.
3. How are your chopstick skills?
I get by ok with most things. Slippery noodles give me major chopstick anxiety though, ha ha ha!
4. A sunscreen that you like?
For my face, I’ve been into the Laneige one because it sinks in quickly and is super moisturizing. For my body I’ve been liking Banana Boat Light As Air.
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve?
I cannot deal with blush that’s difficult to blend. If it’s patchy or too overly pigmented and I need to be there swiping back and forth for days, then forget about it.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit?
I have so many! I think summer is the best time for fruit. I love watermelon, cherries, strawberries and peaches, especially.
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child?
Oh my gosh, I didn’t even attempt to curse when I was kid. There was an unspoken understanding that we were never to use foul language around adults.
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette?
I’ll take a few spritzes of a summery eau du toilette today.
Hi, my sweet friend! Happy Monday. It’s the unofficial start of summer here in my neck of the woods, but you wouldn’t know it by the gloomy, overcast weather. I don’t mind the cool temps, though. I find that as I get older, I like it more than I used to.
What are you up to this week? Connor starts summer camp, so I’ll be juggling work and driving her to and from dance camp. One of these days I’m gonna put a tip jar in my car for chauffeur services!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? My Bobbi Brown Chocolate Truffle gel eyeliner is beginning to dry out a bit (I’ve had it for ages!). I don’t often wear brown, but when I do, I want a deep rich color and Chocolate Truffle is it.
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? No. I’ve got good brows.
3. How are your chopstick skills? Pretty good.
4. A sunscreen that you like? I love ISDIN Eryfotona Actinica SPF50+. It’s a mineral sunscreen.
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? I have two that are tied for biggest peeve—blushes that fade away within an hour or two and cream blushes that migrate.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? Apricots
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? No because I never cursed. Back in the day, adults—and especially women—were much more careful to not swear in front of kids and swearing wasn’t permitted on TV or radio. I didn’t hear it so there as nothing to emulate.
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? Eau de toilette covers all the bases.
Karen says
Sounds like I need Bobbi Brown Truffle in my life, Eileen!
Eileen says
It’s a lovely deep brown that is a good alternative for those of us who usually wear black. It’s not smudgy like kajal, but because it’s gel, you’ve got a bit of wiggle room before it sets.
Rachel says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace?
My foundation sponge.
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated?
No! I am very interested in getting them micro bladed but also too scared to do it.
3. How are your chopstick skills?
Pretty good! It’s funny because my best friend is 1/4 Japanese and has no idea how to use them! They look at her funny at the sushi place when she asks for a fork! 😹
4. A sunscreen that you like?
Alba botanicals spray for the girls!
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve?
Any blush that doesn’t blend well is not worth my time!
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit?
All of them! Why can’t vegetables taste like fruit?!
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child?
No way! The wildest thing I did growing up was dye my hair pink. My mom didn’t talk to me for a week!
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette?
Eau de toilette, a fresh beachy one please!
Karen says
SERIOUSLY, why can’t vegetables taste like fruit, LOL!? I would love that so much!
Brigid says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? My tweezers. The eyebrows don’t need much upkeep but the tweezers are ancient.
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? No.
3. How are your chopstick skills? Pretty good. My husband’s job took him to Japan a lot for a couple of years so we practiced together.

8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? eau du toilette.
Mandy says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? Eyeliner…I have been experimenting with different ways to wear it. I’ve always loved eyeliner…but I’m not sure how to adapt to 40 year old eyes😐. Is black still ok? Can I wear it smudgy? What about inner rim?
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? No (what is that🤣)
3. How are your chopstick skills? Not very good
4. A sunscreen that you like? Sun Bum.
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? Blending. I don’t have time for a blush that doesn’t blend.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? Watermelon🍉
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? I live in an area where cursing is considered the norm. I do teach my kiddos not to.
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? I don’t wear very many scented products
Eileen says
Hi Mandy! Of course you can still rock black eyeliner! I’m 79 and black is my daily go-to. Just for reference, I have dark warm green eyes, naturally black browns and eyelashes, and silver grey hair. Most of the time, I use a fine brush to lightly smudge it a bit; other times I’ll wear it in a graphic style. Wear whatever suits you and don’t worry about your age. As the lady in the commercial says, “Age is just a number and mine’s unlisted.” 😃
Eileen says
Oops! Excuse the typo. That should be black brows; not black browns. I might love black eyeliner, but evidently I need glasses! Lol
BTW, I don’t line my inner rims because that makes my eyes look smaller.
Mandy says
Thanks Eileen!!! Love that “Age is just a number and mine’s unlisted”♥. Great advice. Sometimes, even though I try not to, I still worry about what others think. Very bad habit that I constantly have to battle.
KC says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? My concealer
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? No. I have a few family members that have had stuff done to their brows before and the results just didn’t seem natural at all.
3. How are your chopstick skills? Pretty good but I’m not shy about asking for a fork for the hard to pick up stuff or if I’m feeling lazy lol
4. A sunscreen that you like? Skinceuticals Physical fusion for the face and Blue Lizard sensitive for the rest of the body
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? When it doesn’t look like a natural flush. I used to use Benetint waaay back in the day until a male coworker complimented me on my blush and I thought I must’ve overdone it.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? Ripe mangoes and super juicy and sweet blackberries
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? No
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? Eau du toilette
Linda says
. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? My eyeliner. I’ve decided that my 70+ year old eyes still need eyeliner. It used to be black, now it’s brown.
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? I don’t even know what that is, lol.
3. How are your chopstick skills? Pretty good.
4. A sunscreen that you like? Sunprise SPF 50 for my face, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 70 for my body.
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? When the color isn’t anything like the packaging says.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? Mangoes and strawberries
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? Never cursed as a child, I would have definitely had a sore bottom!
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? Eau de toilette.
Tatiana says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? Mascara. They always seem to dry out before I use them up.
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? No
3. How are your chopstick skills? Excellent. I can pick up a single grain of rice or the slipperiest noodles with ease. I even use a long pair to flip food in pans on the stove because I find them easy to use.
4. A sunscreen that you like? Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics (SPF50+ PA++++)
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? Patchiness. Too much pigment.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? Cherries, nectarines, melons and berries are the ones I buy the most often.
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? Yup. I saw a word graffitied on the mailbox in front of my elementary school and I came home and asked what it meant. I got the slap first before the explanation I shouldn’t use that word.
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? Depends on the scent, but generally EdT.
I hope you have a good summer. Before you know it Connor will be old enough to get a license and drive herself places.
Pamela says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace?
Nothing I can think of.
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated?
I have never heard of such a thing.
3. How are your chopstick skills?
No skills in the chopsticks area. I’ve tried numerous times but no luck.
4. A sunscreen that you like?
Tried and true Neutrogena. But for my face:
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve?
Hmm…maybe harsh application.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit?
Several: watermelon, peach, mango, pineapple.
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child?
No, I was very careful not to use the words I learned from the older kids. Now…my younger child (age 8) heard MF once (let’s just blame dad) and has been saying it to push my buttons–not MF but the whole rotten phrase.
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette?
Just EDT.
Pamela says
I meant to mention that I am trying out Supergoop sunscreen for my face.
CC says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace?
Makeup lasts a long time for me. I just bought a two pack elf brow pencil with the spoolie on the end.
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated?
No way. I only need to tweeze an occasional hair and I’ve even stopped tinting because it’s just as easy to fill in with my elf product. I like simple and low maintenance.
3. How are your chopstick skills?
Pretty ok, but I don’t use them very often.
4. A sunscreen that you like?
Face:Pipette mineral and…now that I think of it, for body application too.
*I just bought banana boat light as air and it arrived today, so I haven’t used it yet. 😀
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve?
Like you, if it’s not easily bendable. I like a wet’n wild peachy color and it applies very nicely and isn’t shimmery. I’ve had it for so long and can’t imagine trying to find another product that I like better, so I keep using it. I do have a tower 28 cream, but the application takes longer, but it is a great product. However…I think the compact is hard to open and the older I get, the more particular about packaging I get.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit?
cantaloupe and honey dew
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child?
No, I don’t think it much crossed my mind. I do enjoy a good curse as an adult, to relieve steam.
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette?
I have a doterra oil roller ball in Whisper and a Pacifica roller ball in an orange scent. I don’t care much for perfume other than those two.
Summer here has been spring time weather as well and I too couldn’t be happier!
Stephanie Smith says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? I need a new pencil sharpener, the one I have is just a cheapie Revlon one I bought because I needed one, and it kind of blows.
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? No, I don’t like the look on me.
3. How are your chopstick skills? Pretty decent. My 17 year old daughter is a whiz though!
4. A sunscreen that you like? Purito, it’s a Korean brand. Love it. But I have to order it from Stylevana and it’s inexpensive but it takes a month to ship. I’ve been looking for something similar, but haven’t had any luck.
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? It feels like they’re all suuuuuuper pigmented these days, I like a wash of color, not a painted on glob of color.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? Ooh, there are so many. Nectarines and watermelon and peaches and strawberries.
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? No. I did NOT curse in front of my parents.
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? I’m a perfume girly, but a light Summery floral.
Sandi says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace?
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? No, only wax and henna
3. How are your chopstick skills? Beginner level but I “try”. I used to work with a Japanese company and they tried to teach me.
4. A sunscreen that you like? Neutrogena products
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? Red apple cheeks
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? All of them!
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? If I cursed in front of my Mom, I would have gotten a spanking. So, the answer is a definite no.
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? Any of them. Love fragrance as long as they are not over powering.
Kim says
Love the cute outfits! I hope Connor has a great time at camp. 🙂
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? My bag only holds infrequently used items these days. My everyday things are living free in a drawer, which is not hard since there are only 6 of them!
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? I had to google it (of course) but it would not be for me. I usually just hit mine with some hair color when I touch up my roots and that’s enough chemical treating for me. Plus, I get to look like Uncle Leo for about 20 minutes and my family gets to mock me. HAHA!
3. How are your chopstick skills? So bad that every time we went to dinner in China, our hosts would immediately ask the staff for a knife and fork for me. Even though I insisted on practicing, it was too painful for any of them to watch.
4. A sunscreen that you like? I forgot to tell you that I like Laneige. I would put it on par with Elta MD but just a bit thicker and more fragranced. I like both. For body, I’ve been happy with Sun Bum. SPF 70, naturally.
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? When it cracks in the pan. So messy!
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? Rainier cherries.
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? I did not curse in front of adults when I was a kid. And still would never swear in front of my parents, friends’ parents, kids or anyone who isn’t a peer that I know fairly well. If you are a good friend, prepare for your ears to bleed, though. Especially after a couple of drinks. HAHA!
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? EDT, pls.
E.D. says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? Probably need to go through the lipsticks again and see if any need to go.
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? No, no need to really. If I want to brush them up, that works with some brow gel.
3. How are your chopstick skills? Decent, except for small scraps of vegetables or noodles. Although I’ll admit I’m probably out of practice.
4. A sunscreen that you like? The EltaMD UV clear SPF 46 for face, neck, and chest and the Coppertone Sport 30 SPF spray everywhere else if I’m at the beach.
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? People who are consistently late/waste time. Sorry, but your time isn’t any more important than anyone else’s.
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? Strawberries and blackberries for sure, but homegrown or self-picked are soooo much better. It’s something I miss about my hometown.
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? Not much but I also didn’t curse much back then.
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? Really none of those. I stick to oil rollerballs if I bother with scented products at all.
Melissa says
1. Something in your makeup bag that you need to replace? Mascara – I try to toss it every 6 months at least
2. Have you ever had your brows laminated? No – no one touches my brows
3. How are your chopstick skills? I am chopstick challenged. I’ve gotten better but I bussed tables in a Chinese restaurant in high school & even they couldn’t teach me. They rigged a pair up like you would do for a 5 year old for me
4. A sunscreen that you like? Elta MD
5. Your biggest blush pet peeve? When it won’t blend and is streaky
6. What’s your favorite summer fruit? Peaches & cherries
7. Did you get in trouble for cursing when you were a child? Oh yeah
8. Body splash, hair perfume or eau du toilette? Body spray when I remember
