So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Pick a hairstyle – a shag or a bob?
Long bob for this girl. I had one once and it looked OK; it was hella high maintenance so I didn’t keep it up. Hard pass on the shag because it would definitely look like a mullet with my wavy outer layers and straight inner layers, LOL!
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer?
There were several county fairs in our neck of the woods, but we didn’t go to any of them this year because nowadays I don’t like to get hot or dusty unless I absolutely have to. We’ll take Connor to one eventually just so she can experience carnival rides, fair food, etc.
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving?
Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil is so good! It softens and smooths rough ends and adds shine without feeling heavy or greasy, and a little goes a long way.
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all?
Oh my goodness, believe it or not, yes. I went to Michaels on the weekend and the place was already exploding with Halloween decor. Connor also asked if we could start looking for a costume. (Someone wants to be a cat this year.)
5. Spicy or mild?
Mild if we’re talking about heat levels in food. Spicy if we’’e talking about my cattitude, HA HA HA!
Good morning and welcome to the week, my friend! I’m feeling mellow this morning and savoring these last few bits of summer before school starts. Just around the corner are dance practices, school events, birthday parties, homework and driving Connor all over town to all the events.
It’ll be another busy and sweet season in our lives. Everyone tells me these years go by in the blink of an eye, so I’m going to enjoy it.
I hope this week brings you good things and plenty of joy.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob?
Long bob over here too!
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer?
Yes – one in a small town near us had a parade and we went and ate fair food. The girls are too little for rides yet but I’m glad they have each other to go with when they are big because I hate rides!
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving?
IGK charcoal dry shampoo – my favorite!
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all?
Yes – wondering if I should just get the girls something that’s cute for a costume or if we will all try to coordinate as a family (most likely not.) If it’s nice I think we will plan on just handing out candy at home again, we live on a busy street and get like 500+ trick-or-treaters!
5. Spicy or mild?
Spicy! I can handle a fair amount of spice!
Mandy says
1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob? Bob ….Google Olivia Munn textured bob
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer? No – We may go to one later this month
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving? I love Honest Beauty shampoos and conditioners – so awesome when a brand caters to allergies, eczema, and asthma. Not very many brands offer fragrance free or sensitive.
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all? Yes – I love Halloween
5. Spicy or mild? Mild
Kids started back to school on Wednesday (4th & 5th grades) and the “beautiful chaos” has begun 😜.

1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob?
A bob- I’m rocking one right now!
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer?
We don’t have a lot of events around here in the summer because of the heat. In the fall, though, there will be multiple events every weekend for months, which is always fun.
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving?
Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi shampoo. When I hit my mid-forties, I developed oily roots and dry ends, something I never had before. That shampoo deals with both problems gently.
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all?
No, it’s not my jam.
5. Spicy or mild?
Mild food, spicy book opinions.😄
Brigid says
1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob? A bob, but longer, so it has some bounce with the waves.
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer? No, a couple classic car shows (we have a couple restored British sports cars) but no fairs.
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving? My hair has been really frizzy. I’ve been using a drop of my facial Olena Beauty Oil by Honua Skincare in Hawaii and it makes my hair so soft (also, Kapua, the founder, is giving 100% of profits in August to four organizations in Maui that are helping with the relief efforts so I I just had to order more Youth Serum – my fav.)
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all? Yes! I take two weeks of vacation in October just to enjoy the cooler weather, decorating, and stuff with the grand-goblins.
5. Spicy or mild? Spicy for Thai food – anything else I go with mild.

1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob? Bob
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer? No
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving? L’Oreal EverCreme Deep Nourish Shampoo & Conditioner. They’ve been discontinued and I’m having a hard time finding something I like as much that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg or doesn’t have too much fragrance in it.
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all? Not at all. Although I did buy a stocking stuffer for Dear Daughter for Christmas.
5. Spicy or mild? Spicy! Give me all the Shin Ramen, gochujang, and Szechuan peppercorns. Although as spicy as I like it, Dear Husband likes it on an entirely different level of spiciness.
E.D. says
1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob? Bob – I have one that’s slightly below chin length now.
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer? No, most of the local fairs are church fairs and the state one here sucks. I would probably only go to a fair if I was back home (NYS Fair) at the right time.
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving? The Zotos All About Curls mousse. Giving up some of the hold of a gel so that my hair dries faster is worth it.
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all? No, but I normally don’t think about it at all aside from getting some candy. We don’t hand out candy anymore after several years before the pandemic of getting 150+ kids.
5. Spicy or mild? Spicy, but my digestive system is starting to disagree with me on that.
Stephanie Smith says
1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob? A shag, a shaggy shag! I have the right texture for one, I love the wildness of them.
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer? No, not this year. I did go to a couple of outdoor concerts, but nothing with rides or corn dogs. Next year maybe.
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving? Eva NYC Mane Magic 10 in one. Reduces frizz, makes my hair shiny, dries, heat protection, all kinds of good things.
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all? A tiny bit. My grocery store has candy now, and my neighborhood is very popular with trick or treaters, so I’ll need to start buying candy soon.
5. Spicy or mild? Spicy! No question. I live in northern Michigan, I’m from Central California, I love spicy, these people do not. Lol!
Karen says
How funny about the spice levels out there! Have you been able to find a decent burrito?
Eileen says
1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob? My hair is perfectly straight so a long bob would work.
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer? Nope.
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving? I love Aveda’s Blue Malva shampoo.—gives my hair lovely silver glints.
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all? No, not yet. It’s been too hot to think about anything other than iced tea and air conditioning.
5. Spicy or mild? Spicy!
Karen says
I haven’t used any Aveda in a minute but I think they have some lovely hair products! Ooh, and their tea, yum!
CL says
1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob? Bob.
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer? No, they don’t do fairs here in the summer. It’s not fun to stroll around places when it’s between 95 and 110 degrees from 10:00 AM until around midnight. Even the start of the TX State Fair (September) is usually too hot to spend all day there. The fair ends in October, and it’s usually more pleasant then (when it’s not raining).
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving? I’m almost out of It’s a 10 Lite. It’s pretty good, but I recently bought the Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Leave-In Conditioner. It seems to be pretty similar, and it has a better sprayer on it. It also costs less.
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all? Only upon seeing the new candy in the store – they really start pushing candy early. I’m sure about 95% of all candy sold “for Halloween” is actually eaten by the purchaser.
5. Spicy or mild? Mild, always. I’ve never really liked spicy food, and after having chemotherapy, my mouth seems to have become permanently more sensitive to irritation from spicy foods. That is a known side effect of chemo for NHL.
Karen says
I was just chatting with a friend who’s husband lived in Texas for 6 months; he said he spent most of his time there inside. I’ve never visited but it sounds HOT!
Kim says
Oh, for sure! Enjoy every moment you can with Connor at this age (and every age, of course!).
1. Pick a hairstyle — a shag or a bob? I guess a shag since layers give me much needed volume. Those bangs will be totally swept to the side, though!
2. Did you go to any fairs this summer? Yes, for the first time in more than a decade. It was in the county next to ours, and all the gals went to see Melissa Etheridge.
3. A product in your hair routine that you’ve been using and loving? Pureology’s Hydrate Sheer shampoo and conditioner have been wins for me.
4. Have you started thinking about Halloween at all? No, not yet. I’m barely thinking about this Friday. 🙂
5. Spicy or mild? The spicier, the better! I’m sure someday I won’t tolerate it very well, so I try to enjoy it while I can. HAHA!
Karen says
Ooh, I’ve been wanting to try Pureology Hydrate Sheer! I’ve heard good things about both the shampoo and conditioner. 🙂
