So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Pick one — expensive purse or expensive shoes?
Although I feel like I’d get more use out of an expensive purse, I’d worry too much about losing it or it getting stolen, so shoes it is. Ideally, they’d be comfortable and make my heart sing!
Side note, I saw these sequin boots the other day and thought, “Oooooooh!” They’ve got a four-inch heel, though, so it’s not happening.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish?
Natural finish, please. If it looks heavy at all, I can’t do it.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like?
Really, there are so many. I like to try scents because you never know if one will work with your body chemistry, so I’m always hopeful, but ugh. There have been many times when I’ve spritzed stuff on and spent the day with a headache or feeling nauseous.
Lemme think. I know a ton of people who love Angel by Thierry Mugler, but it’s a little too sweet and heavy on me. Also back in the day, I tried the Liz Claiborne perfume in the triangle bottle, and it made my head pound for days.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try -– a product, procedure, anything!
There’s a new prescription retinoid I’m really interested in that I read about on allure.com that’s supposed to have hydrating ingredients in addition to the tretinoin. Looks promising!
5. Lavender or roses?
Roses. I’d love a few for a vase in my office.
Hello and how’s it going, my friend? I hope Monday has been treating you well.
When I walked Connor to school this morning, I looked up at the clear, blue sky and felt really good – like the week ahead has so much potential.
Small and gentle reminder to make your lists, drink your water and take care of your boundaries. Here’s a *hug* in case you need it, too.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes?
I definitely need a nice pair of shoes more than another bag. The only problem with expensive shoes is I don’t want them to get dirty, scuffed, etc. so I end up wearing them less frequently.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish?
Natural finish for sure.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like?
I know there are plenty. I just can’t name one at the moment! If I wear fragrance these days it’s Glossier You which I adore.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything!
I would consider myself Botox curious. I’m not obsessive about wrinkles but I would like to see the results and see if it’s worth it.
5. Lavender or roses?
I’d love a little arrangement of lavender. I love the color and the scent. Plus it makes me feel French.
It’s nice to think of the possibilities of the week ahead as opposed to just a to-do list. Have a great week!
Karen says
Ooh, I like that — “Botox curious.” I’m the same way, LOL. I haven’t done it but often wonder about it!
Have a great rest of your Monday. 🙂
Eileen says
1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes? Expensive shoes but only if they are expensive because they are excellent in fit and quality.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish? I’ve always favored a natural finish with just enough coverage to even things out a bit. I have dry skin and so I don’t have the problem of skin oils breaking up the foundation. When I need longer wear, I use a bit of finishing powder.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like? Gypsy Water. It was so trendy awhile back, but when I finically got around to trying it, it smelled terrible on me.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything! I really can’t think of anything as I am very happy with my current skincare routine and products.
5. Lavender or roses? I adore roses.
Karen says
Good point about the shoes, Eileen! Hope you’re having a nice Monday.

1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes?
I’m at the expensive shoes time of life, lol. Quality, support, and fit take precedence.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish?
Natural finish, ftw.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like?
I love the Maison Margiela Replica scents, but By The Fireplace set off my allergies and asthma instantly. It really was like smoke in a bottle.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything!
I’ve had to keep my skincare as basic as possible because of all my sensitivities, so I don’t know all the new things out there anymore.
5. Lavender or roses?
Lavendar- so soothing.
Karen says
I haven’t smelled that one but it sounds smokey! Yikes!
CL says
I got a sample of By the Fireplace, and that’s really what it smells like. I didn’t care to smell like that.
Pamela says
1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes?
Purse. The shoes would just get dirty and that would make me feel terrible.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish?
It’s all about the finish.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like?
I have not been perfume shopping in awhile.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything!
Microblading! I’ve seen a lot of beautiful results but it’s so expensive.
5. Lavender or roses?
Not really a big fan of either but I would choose rose.
Karen says
Happy Monday, Pamela. I hope you have a great week!
Brigid says
1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes? Shoes – I have really wide feet, so finding a pair of shoes that don’t look like something Mickey Mouse would wear is hard.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish? Natural Finish – most days, I don’t wear foundation but it took years of trial and error to find skin care that gave me foundation-free skin.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like? Clinique Aromatics. It’s been around forever, so obviously, people out there love it, but it smelled SO bad on me – I changed the cat’s litter box just to smell something nicer.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything! The skincare line I use the most (woman-created and owned) just opened a spa in Charleston – I know it’s too far, but I’d love to go there for a day of pampering.
5. Lavender or roses? Roses.
Karen says
Hi Brigid,
I’ve smelled that Clinique scent on others and it’s lovely; on me though, not so much!
Linda says
1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes? Shoes.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish? Natural finish
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like? Anything by Clinique
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything! I’d like to try that new adult acne medication as well. When I see my Derm in October, I’m going to mention it.
5. Lavender or roses? Roses.
Fern says
I haven’t done one of these in years!
1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes?
If I could choose to have either a custom made purse or a custom made pair of shoes, cost being no object, I’d get a custom made pair of timeless, comfortable leather pump or mary jane or slingback shoe with a two inch heel that could last me my lifetime and be refreshed/repaired as needed.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish? Natural finish
With Hawaii’s humidity? Long wear time.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like?
Coco Chanel. It smells wonderful on other people, but on me…
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything!
The only thing I’ve wanted to try really was tretinoin, and I just got a prescription for it from my derm! So I’m trying it this week. Wish me luck and no traumatizing purges!
5. Lavender or roses?
Roses, please! But I’d love to add maile leaves to it. Reminds me of the maile and rose lei worn at graduations, baby luau, and weddings in Hawaii, and smells so good.
CL says
1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes? Probably the purse. Shoes wear out faster. You can sometimes get a really good deal on a pair of shoes. I got some US-made Munro suede slip-ons for only $60.00 a few months ago, and they fit great right out of the box. Arguably they’re the best shoes I’ve ever bought.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish? Natural finish. So hard to find in a very light shade.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like? I don’t like a lot of popular perfumes (or ones that had been popular), like Light Blue, Glow by JLo, Beautiful, Red Door, and most berry-scented perfumes. Can’t stand so-called “ozone” perfumes.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything!
Something that would fix sagging skin under my chin – it ages me most of all.
5. Lavender or roses? Roses. I’ve never really liked the scent of lavender, but I do have a bottle of lavender oil for its alleged ability to help one calm down and sleep.
Stephanie Smith says
1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes? Probably a purse, but it would have to be the right side and shape and color. I’m hard on shoes, I’d hate to spend a lot on something that I’d ruin.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish? Natural finish. I don’t like full coverage.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like? Marc Jacobs Daisy. It just smells cheap on me.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything! I have a sun spot on my cheek that I’d like to get burned off. I will, eventually.
5. Lavender or roses? Roses, they’re really pretty and the scent is classic.
Mandy says
Taking this on a Tuesday…because Monday was too crazy😜…
1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes? This is a hard one. I love handbags. I would probably pick expensive shoes though. And honestly an expensive pair of sneakers…my work is really laid back so I don’t dress up often.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish? Both. I need it to last all day…but look good on my skin. I can’t do matte anything anymore.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like? Not very many. My husband has asthma and my daughter has allergies. I don’t wear very many scents.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything! Anything to get rid of my smile lines. It’s the one area that bothers me the most😑. They are not horrible…but I still can’t stand them.
5. Lavender or roses? Roses…preferably yellow.
Yesterday after school my daughter and I were feeding the hummingbirds together. We can hold the feeder and they eat out of our hands now. I got some good photos of her. I have created a little area just for the hummingbirds and we have so many now. I love letting them fly all around me. So beautiful and peaceful. They will leave in September, so we are enjoying them as much as possible. Just a little slice of nature right out our door😊.
E.D. says
1. Pick one -– expensive purse or expensive shoes? Expensive purse. I am hard on shoes and don’t dress up enough to really be able to justify very expensive shoes.
2. What’s more important to you in a foundation/base — a long wear time or a natural finish? Natural finish, but it would need to last at least 8 hours.
3. A perfume or a scent that you tried and didn’t like? Virtually all of them.
4. Something related to skincare you’d like to try — a product, procedure, anything! I’ve been interested in a TCA or other deep peel to get rid of a lot of relatively small seborrheic keratoses on my neck and upper chest.
5. Lavender or roses? Roses. I am very sensitive to lavender, so very little goes a long way.
