Outfit of the Day with a Pop of Color and New Red Chuck Taylor Y2K Heart Shoes

January 30th, 2024 by Karen 20 Comments

Yesterday’s work outfit was a nod to Valentine’s Day next month with a pop of red on my shoes and a cute shirt with red hearts.

At my new job, I’ve noticed that lots of my co-workers wear nice tennis shoes to work. I haven’t worn Chucks since college, but these were so cute and I knew they’d go with the shirt, so I snagged them the minute I saw them online.

I checked the Converse website this morning and apparently they’re already sold out, BOO!

If you’re looking for a pair for yourself and you find them, FYI, apparently this pair runs big, so you might want to go a half size down (unless you want the extra room for thick socks).

I usually wear a size women’s 7 and ordered a 6 1/2.

Oh, and if you still want a pair, these red platform high top Chucks look very similar.

As for the rest of the outfit, the patch pocket jeans are Madewell (I bought the petite length for the slightly cropped ankle look), the blue shirt with red hearts is J. Crew factory and the nails are Chanel Incendiaire.

Have a great Tuesday, my friend!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Cute outfit! I was wondering how you took photos of the outfit and wrote this up and posted it all before work. And then I realized this was Monday’s outfit.
I bought a pair of Rag & Bone jeans during the N Sale, similar to those from Madewell but I still paid a heck of a lot more.
I found a pair of those converse listed on eBay for $177 plus shipping. Crazy!
Let me know how comfy those Converse are. You think you could 20K steps in them? Constantly looking for cute yet still comfy shoes for walking when I’m in Tokyo and taking public transportation with Dear Husband.
Hope you have a great Tuesday!

Oh, I forgot to ask, do the jeans run true to size?

Yes, the jeans run true to size! What I find great about Madewell petites is that they seem to adjust the rise of the pants, too. Some petites tend to just shorten the inseam, but Madewell makes overall adjustments to their jeans!

Oh, and re: the comfort of these shoes. I have a standing work desk and spend most of my day on my feet, and I didn’t have any issues with these shoes. If I had to walk a really long ways in them, though, I’d put in some inserts. Or I’d just wear my Hokas. Also, I happened to buy a white pair of Chuck Taylor platforms, and FYI, those are even more comfortable than the regular versions. I think the extra cushion on the bottom part is very helpful! I think you can special order them to add even more cushion on the bottom!

I love the outfit of the day post! Love seeing how you coordinate outfits for work. And thank you so much for pointing me to Madewell where you got your blazer that I loved and I asked about a few days ago. They have great Blazers and jeans. I’m looking at them now. Hope you have a great week!

Thanks, Diana. I hope that you find some things to love at Madewell! I like their jeans and their blazers/jackets. The tees are just ok — as long as you treat them gently they hold up.

Oh my gosh, I keep seeing those Rag & Bone jeans on my feed! Do you like them? I am tempted to pull the trigger!

I like them, I don’t love them. I had to have them hemmed and that kinda ruins them a bit. I don’t reach for them that often. Lately I’ve been wearing Levi’s with the button fly. I hate the fly but I really like 98-100% cotton jeans. I’m old school that way, they remind of the jeans I wore in the 70’s. Lol

I like Levi’s. I wore them in the’90s and had several pairs that I wore all the time after Connor was born. What’s the name of the jean that you like?

501’s. I have some of the classic fit and some of the wedgie fit. Both have straight legs. They come in different inseam lengths. I like the 28″ inseam because cropped jeans just make me look even shorter. $98 regular price. Every now and then you can find them on sale.

Levi’s (like everything it seems) are so expensive now. I remember buying them in the ’90s and feeling like I got a good deal!

I feel like any jeans I can find for $100 or less is a bargain. Especially when you consider the price on some brands like AG, Rag & Bone, etc.
Levi’s had a sale between Thanksgiving and Christmas and I bought two pairs for $58 each.
When I was in Tokyo I bought some sashiko mending thread and some hand needles and I’ve decided to patch some of my slightly worn jeans. I’m going to take the most destroyed pair to make patches and then embroider them over the spots that are starting to wear on some of the newer pairs. Won’t wear them for dress up, but they’ll be nice enough to wear around town.

Those red Chucks are so cute! I can’t believe how much they’ve gone up in price since I wore them in high school, but I guess that was over 20 years ago now! 😜

Why do you call them TENNIS SHOES? If anything, high tops are a basketball shoe, and low tops are SNEAKERS.

Are you OK? The all caps action makes me worry a little. The reference is just local Nor Cal vernacular, I guess.

We say tennis shoes to refer to all sneaker/athletic shoe types too, and I live in the Midwest. 🤷‍♀️ Sounds like that’s more common than not.

Love the “are you okay?” 🤣

I always call them “tennis shoes” too. When I grew up that’s what everyone called them. Then the running craze came along in the late 70s to 80s, and the preferred name was “running shoe.” Or “sneakers” to cover all rubber soled outdoor shoes with (usually) cotton tops. Calling shoes made for suburban walking “basketball shoes” actually seems a little odd, since almost no one older than 25 wears those to do anything more than walk, or run, for exercise.

This is so cute! I’d love to see more outfits of the day with these shoes. Maybe it will encourage me to pick up a colorful pair for spring.

I wore my Madewell perfect vintage wide leg in black today with a black ribbed top and velvet blazer. So comfy yet put together for work.

    Happy (almost) mid week!

      Your outfit sounds cute!

I’ll see what else I can whip up with these shoes. 😀
