Good morning and happy Saturday, my friend. Well, it looks like we’re getting a short break from the rain, so I’m going grocery shopping in a bit and hopefully will not get drenched! *fingers crossed*
Ya know, I can’t remember the last time I watched a movie in a movie theater; I think it was right before everything shut down, so I’m guessing it was the fall of 2019? Ages ago.
I’m going to have to venture back into a theater soon, though, because this spring one of my favorite books of all time is finally hitting the big screen.
I cannot wait to see this!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reread “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” by Judy Blume — the OG writer of young adult novels.
I think I tried to estimate once how many times, and it was in the hundreds!
Anywho, it’s a coming-of-age story about a teen girl growing up in the suburbs in the 70s, and even though I actually had no real idea what was going on when I first read the book in elementary school, there’s something so approachable about the main character’s awkwardness that resonated and still resonates with me. I’m going to have to dig out my old copy and read it again before I watch the movie, for sure.
Speaking of books, which ones have you liked enough to read again and again and again?
This week’s beauty reading
- Just in case you were looking for a new place to live with 20,000 square feet, nine bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and a custom scent. Yes, it’s a house that comes with its own perfume.
- In Prince Harry’s new book, “Spare,” he talks about how the use of scent during therapy helped process his emotions surrounding Princess Diana’s passing.
- Skin care on deep discount at Sephora!
- Pink lips were on the red carpet at the Golden Globes this year.
- I spy Malaga Wine in this list of the 13 best shades from OPI.
- And because I love finding new-to-me beauty brands, here are a few to check out:
- Berdoues is a French fragrance house that’s been around since 1902.
- Better Not Younger is a hair line that’s made for women over 44.
- Babba Rivera, the founder of Ceremonia, says it was “born out of the desire to celebrate the richness of Latin culture, while highlighting the next-generation of Latinx.”
Love the lip.
Apparently it’s a science.
Korean skin care 411.
One of my favorite songs.
Have a great rest of your weekend, and talk to you soon!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Three books I’ve read repeatedly: “The Mysterious Stranger Manuscripts,” particularly the manuscript called “No. 44, The Mysterious Stranger,” by Twain; “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” and “Hamlet.” Many years ago I bought a book that had the “Hamlet” script on the left page and on the right page, a modern-day English explanation of the 1600s-era Shakespeare wording. I’d recommend that for anyone having to read it in school. “Hamlet” is the most-quoted play in the English language, for good reason. “Huckleberry Finn” is worth rereading now, for people to reaquaint themselves with what I call “the Southern mentality.” He takes on the senseless violence of the time in both “feuds” and mob violence.

Oh, I like the sound of a hair care line aimed at aging hair. Mine is thin to begin with and now gets even thinner…
