Hi, guys! Happy Saturday. I hope your weekend got off to a great start. Mine? Solidly OK, although I’m feeling a little under the weather… I caught a teeny cold, so I’ll allegedly be taking it easy today. I say “allegedly” because whenever I’m supposed to rest, and know I should rest, I still struggle to refrain from doing all of the things I feel like I should be doing, like laundry or tidying or reading. Does this ever happen to you? It’s almost like I have to FORCE myself to not be productive.
I told myself this morning that all I was going to do today was re-watch The Hunger Games movies and sleep. So, that’s my plan and I’m sticking to it!
Anyway, I took this pic of myself at the top the other day because I was having a good hair day. I highly recommend grabbing a selfie whenever your hair is cooperating because, inevitably, when you’re tempted to do things like cut your bangs or dye your hair (ME AT THE MOMENT!), it helps to have something to remind you of what a good hair day looks like.
This weekend’s reading
- A writer contemplates what it’s like to let go of multistep skin routine. I’ve done this in the past, and you know what? My skin generally is better when I do less to it. You’d think I would’ve learned my lesson by now, but sometimes I can’t resist the temptation to keep piling on all the things.
- You might find a beauty product that you use and love on sale at Amazon right now, like DHC Cleansing Oil.
- This L.A. beauty and hair-care guru is changing the industry.
- I can’t wait to discover new brands at thirteen lune, an online beauty shopping site that features brands created by Black and Brown founders.
- Grapeseed oil is trending.
- Why the heck are so many haircare brands launching fragrances?
- Heinz Ketchup is selling makeup kits…
- I just cannot deal with TikTok sometimes!
- Cat eyes in four easy steps.
- What is sea moss, and what can it do for your skin?
Oh, hey, Dr. Alexis!

This looks so fun!
What is this, and why am I only finding it now…?
I hope things on your side of the keyboard are grand. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend! Talk to you soon.

Don’t fall to the temptation of hair dye! Your hair has been increasingly more gorgeous since you first made the decision and I wish I had never started with color soooo many years ago!! I’m a long haired brunette like you and am probably 80% grey/white underneath. Can’t go cold turkey – have to work on getting silvery highlights to start the process. Spend the $$ on makeup, perfume, and manicures – your hair is beautiful as it is!!

Thanks, Carol. I needed that pep talk!

Don’t do dye! I love the silver.
My skincare routine has a few steps just because I have some prescriptions from my derm. At night I cleanse, moisturize, add a layer of Differin after the moisturizer dries and then add a layer of a rosacea medication that has three prescriptions in one cream. Morning is just cleanse, moisturize, rosacea medication, and sunscreen. Generally I do better with simple routines.
The Heinz blood 😹
My husband took me out today because he wanted to go to a record store (he bought a turntable and is collecting vinyl now) and then we went to eat.

I’m a fan of the simpler skin routines! I can’t handle too many steps. What sunscreen are you using these days?
Chelsea says
I’m finishing up a bottle of Clinique SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen Fluid but I’ll need something a little more moisturizing soon for fall winter and I’ll switch back to Vanicream Sport.
Karen says
I’ve yet to try anything from the Vanicream line, but I’ve heard it’s good. I’m just about to finish my Cerave Mineral Tinted Sunscreen (YES) so I’ll be treating myself to a new sunscreen soon!

Taking my life in my hands here, I’m gonna say: do the dye.
Ok, hear me out: we use makeup, foundation, blush, lipstick, the whole shebang, because we like a little something to improve our natural self. Can we go without it? Heck yeah. We don’t need it. But we like a more even skin and a wash of colour. To me is the same with hair.
These days we live with a new kind of presure, brought to us because of pandemic and the way we started to reevaluate our priorities and way of living. The presure of being natural, of less is more. And it’s a good cultural turnaround.
BUT, to me, one of the things the pandemic has taught me is that life is short. So do what you want (within reason, obvs).
You want to shave your hair so to not have to deal with cut and colour, go for it. You want to experiment with colours, do the purple you always wanted. And if you want to dye the grays, you are allowed.
The silver is gourgeous. No discussion here. But if you feel like a change, go ahead. Do a permanent dye ou a semi permanent one, but do whatever you feel like doing. It’s just hair. To me, in the same way we can become “slaves” of the maintenance of colour (and the maintenance is annoying, that’s thuth), we can be stuck in the believe that we have to acept the grays. We have to be natural, because if we dare to dye our hair, we are denying ou true self, our true beauty. Like we are going against the movement, like a setback. It’s not.
In the same way you can wear makeup to improve yourself if you feel like it, you can add a wash of colour to your hair.
If you are tired of the grays, it’s ok. You are allowed. If you need a change, go for it. It’s fine. It’s not a treason. It’s just hair. Your hair. It’s you who have to look yourself in the mirror every day.
That’s my 2 scents .

Thank you, Sabrina. It was really helpful to hear this side of it. You’re right, it’s just hair.

Hey Karen! I’ve been away for quite a while. After Mom passed, I just couldn’t do my usual routines, skin, etc or even read the blog. I’ve missed this community very much! I just wanted to say that you look absolutely incredible! #goals. I’m happy to be back!😘
