What Scent Are You Wearing?

Byredo Gypsy Water Eau de Parfum
Byredo Parfums Gypsy Water Eau de Parfum ($220 for a 3.3-oz. spray bottle), available now at Neiman Marcus

Despite El Niño’s chilly whispers far earlier in the year than usual, the weather turned warmer again last week, which is pretty normal for the Bay Area in October.

Love, if you plan a trip to the San Francisco Bay Area, this is the BEST time to visit. Late September/early October. We get fewer foggy days in the city, and most of the summer tourists have gone, so there’s less traffic and the crowds are smaller.

With this little heatwave we’ve been having (it’s supposed to hit 91 today!), it’s been too hot for really creamy, warm or musky scents for me, so today I’m all about Byredo Parfums Gypsy Water Eau de Parfum ($220 for a 3.3-oz. spray bottle, available now at Neiman Marcus).

I recommend it all the time to friends who really don’t like heavy, cloying scents. I love it for weekends and jeans/t-shirt days.

Byredo Gypsy Water Eau de Parfum

It starts with crisp bergamot, lemon, pepper and juniper berry notes, then opens into a refreshing, light mix of incense (not too strong), pine needles and orris, and dries down to amber, vanilla and sandalwood.

That name, too — Gypsy Water — like, let’s all call in sick today and just go to Hawaii, yay!

Speaking of that, here’s the other scent I’m also wearing…

LOL! I had to get Hawaii up in my scent mix today. Ain’t no shame in that game. Secret Hawaii Citrus Breeze Antiperspirant/Deodorant ($4.99). 🙂

How about you? What scent are you wearing?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S.

I’m wearing Balenciaga Floribotanica lately. I never liked it until I put it on and now I want the biggest bottle.

Today I’m wearing the new Vera Wang Forever perfume – so feminine and pretty! I feel fancy whenever I wear it.. and now I’ll have that Iggy song stuck in my head all day!

    “I’m so fancy….” Haha!
    Happy Friday Karen!

One of the good things about fall is I can bring back my favorite, Frederick Malle Musc Ravageur. I adore that scent. So voluptuous. Love the look of the Gypsy Water packaging. Enjoy the hot weather in SF! Wish I were there 😉 PS I love the Clinical Strength deo too

Well actually today I’m not wearing any scent because it’s been a lazy relaxed Friday for me (yay!), but I can’t get enough of Clarins Eau Ensoleillante lately. It was a limited summer edition, it’s described as “an uplifting treatment fragrance that captures the fun-loving essence of summer sun” with notes of sparkling mandarin, grapefruit, ylang ylang and patchouli. Yes, it supposed to be a summer fragrance and yes, it’s fall time, but it’s just so beautifully refreshing and original and I just can’t get enough. What can I say..it’s perfection in a bottle. It’s been a pretty long time since I liked a perfume THIS much. I better arm myself with a few back ups before they all go!

I am currently wearing Roses de Chloé ( after using up Chloé Love Story ). I love Byredo bottles, they are classy. Rose Noir was calling my name one day but I ended up with 2 Diptyque fragrances !

I wear Magnolia by a very small-batch perfumer (right in SF, CA) called Elizabeth W. (Elizabeth Wrightman). The web tells me that they are in Ghiradelli Square, not that I’ve been. Anyway, it’s a small business with great customer service. I live East Coast only, and it can be tough to find locally. They ship and they’re super friendly. their products are amazing. The magnolia (again, this is per the web) is magnolia with saffron and sandalwood, and also Riviera mimosa and gardenia. It’s very floral and feminine. It is a light, summery scent, but I wear it year-round. It’s isn’t cloying, so it’s less Blanche Devereau (golden girls) and more Charlotte La Bouff (princess & the frog). It’s not an old-lady scent but it isn’t juvenile, either. I don’t know what else to say except that I feel unprepared without it. It’s elegant and ladylike and beautiful. I get daily compliments. You should go and write about them! (And no, I don’t work for them – sadly – or get paid or anything like that. I just love this stuff.) Apparently they are reworking the formula, so maybe you can convince them not to mess with perfection. Give it a shot! You won’t be disappointed. 😉

Well, since I suffer from chemical sensitivity I usually go unscented. I love orientals and insencey type fragrances and as long as they are not chemical base I’m fine.

Hit me with anything BBW, fabric softener, degree deoderant, and some of the others. Oh GAIN and TIDE will ruin my life. IT’s really horrible because I used to be able to layer scent and LOVE IT.

Old time favs are Dior Hypnotic Poison (people would just say, wow you smell good). I also like YSL Manifesto and Lancome La VIe Est Belle (think that’s the spelling). I have others but they are similar in nature.

I recently picked up a sample set of perfumes labeled “skank” and whoa, they are certainly interesting. I have only tried one and I only put a dot on my wrist – lasted all day and I actually liked it. But they are touted as smelling like sex. LOL I don’t even remember the names. here is the site: surrendertochance.com.

I like that you can purchase such small amounts – it’s perfect for someone like me who has a lot of issues with fragrance.

Great post Karen. This has been on my to-try list for a long time and you have spurred me to seek it out. Wearing My Melody by Demeter a scent I originally bought for my teen and then bought for myself because it is all sweet almondy goodnesss.

Funny you should mention scents today because my husband fessed up and told me he hated my perfume. I only spent 115$ on the perfume because he suggested it and he gave it to me as a gift years ago. Ugh, honesty is always best. If he had told me at once, I would have been able to exchange it.

love to see the mention of a Stockholm based brand! woop woop

I first found it at a hotel (soap, schampoo/conditioner and body lotion) and fell in love with the scent but apparently that one was discontinued (or was exclusive to the hotel because I have not been able to find it again *sad face*)*can’t even remember the name of the scent but it was something like white cotton? cotton something?

Today I am wearing my new fav red musk from TBS. Got a tester of it and I can’t stop spritzing…
