Sundays with Tabs the Cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog Mascot, Vol. 142

June 5th, 2011 by Karen 47 Comments

Not only is Tabs a cat of many talents, but he’s also a cat of many names. I’ve always given my furry companions nicknames, but Tabs take the cake.

Honestly, it’s a miracle he even knows his name at all because half the time I’m calling him something other than Tabs. His many monikers include…

Gravy Crockett

Smokey Eyes

Coco Tabby

Grumble Bunny

Baby Cat

Husky Baby

Meow

Beauty

tabs wearing a pink ribbon

Stripy Boy

Tubby Tabby

And…

  • Chirps
  • Coco
  • Coco Purrs
  • Grumble Purrz
  • Meow Mix
  • Mixy
  • Munchie
  • My Mau (bequeathed upon him during the brief time in which I thought he might be part Egyptian Mau)
  • Pooh-Pooh Tabby
  • Purrz (with a “z”)
  • Ragdoll (yup, I also thought he was part Ragdoll)
  • Squeaks McGoo
  • T-Money
  • The Tabby
  • The Tabinator

Do you give your pets nicknames? Tabs wonders if he’s the only one…

Who is Tabs the Cat? About three years ago I befriended a stray, flea-bitten tabby cat with a bad case of worms. I could see he’d fallen on hard times, but his profound knowledge of high fashion and department store cosmetics led me to believe that he was more than meets the eye. We became fast friends, and now he’s actually my boss (and a successful kitty model). 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Did you watch Game of Thrones?

Some of my favorite creative/colorful nicknames for my kitty include Ms. Snufflebump (the snufflebumps are puppet characters from Friends), ________-pants (ex. grouchy-pants), and Honey Bunches of Oats. Her real name is Dakota, and her typical nickname is Kota, which sometimes gets turned into Kota Kitty.

Of course my cat has nicknames! Her name is Abby but we call her: Abigail, Abisnail, Boo Boo, Boo Boo Snickens, B-Snicks, Stinky, Stinkbutt, Boog, Fluffbutt…I think that’s about it. And she also has a theme song; we sing to her all the time and she probably thinks we’re insane! 😛

LOL at “Smokey Eyes”! You know you are a beauty blogger when you nickname your cat that way.

Belly has a lot of nicknames, too. He replies to Bell-Bell (my version of Britney’s Brit-Brit), Baby Boy, Belri neko-san (his name in Japanese, haha!), Raccoon (he hates when I call him that), Bobcat (because he’s big), Piu Piu, Meo (which means cat in Vietnamese), The Striped One, and get this, El Gato Supremo. He likes the last one the most, no surprise there!

Missy has many nicknames. Off the top of my head: Cuddle Bunny, Chubster, Pumpkin, Hug Monster, just to name a few. She definitely gives off a vibe of barely tolerating the cute nicknames.

Oh yes, my cat has a variety of nicknames, the most commonly-used of which include baby cat, chicken pie, the stripey one, face ache and my personal favourite, angel baby lamb pie!

She just looks at me with total disdain when I call her one of these names. It makes no difference anyway, she doesn’t answer to her real name, never mind any of these!

Oh, definitely! Probably the longest, oddest was for our dearly departed cocker spaniel. Sweetie-Pie, Pumpkin Dog. One of my friends thought it was so funny that she still sometimes calls her husband that. 🙂 Now, our youngest cat Sophie gets “Loafer Lou” and “Sasha Sue” for some reason. We pet owners are weird, aren’t we? hee hee!

Yes, of course, I watched Game of Thrones. I thought it was good, as usual. Did you like it?

Me and my bf just adopted a kitten we’ve named Izzy and in the two weeks we’ve had her she’s earned a bazillion nicknames. My personal faves: Izzy-gator for when she lays completely flat on the floor, chin touching the ground and front paws beside her face, Izzy-saurus when she stands on her back legs to attack her prey, and Izzy-ana Jones when she’s on her kitten quests.

Hahahaha those are great, I’m happy to see I’m not the only crazy cat lady who chooses less than elegant names, “Gravy Crockett” is timeless! One time I was getting home from work at the same time as the lady opposite me in my apartment corridor and we both greeted our cats as we opened the door. From her side I hear:
    “Who’s my little special princess?!”
    Right as I say:
“How the $#&@’s it going Captain Hairball?”

I have two egyptian maus and the one I got as a kitten is registered as “Chairman Mau”, tho it isn’t her casual name – her most common nickname derives from an unfortunate habit she had as an itty bitty adorable kitten to stop what she was doing and poop with fury whenever she was unhappy with something, so “Little Pooper”, “The Poop Minister”, or just “The Poop” is pretty much what everyone calls her :P. My late siamese, who had some pipes and used them with no discretion whatsover, was amongst other things “Old Yeller”. My new mau, who is easily startled and exceptionally ready with her claws has nicknames like “The Little Eviscerator” and “Lady Cuisinart” and for the nerds out there “+5 Cat of Wounding”.

We have a big Golden Retriever-Yellow Lab-Hound mix named Smurf, who also has about fifty-milliion other names.

Usually we call him Smurffle, Surf-a-doodle, or the Smurfinator, but if he’s being especially cute he gets called Pretty Boy/Puppy. He also gets called Fuzzy, Turkey Eater (when laying on his back he looks like he ate an entire turkey), Mr. Squishy, Smurf and Turf (by the dog sitter), and Table Dog.

I would think giving pets nicknames is rather common, as all my friends do it to their pets. Its like giving your best friend a nickname; its just one more way to show you care.

    1. Doo doo, loo loo, yoo yoo, princess punkin pants and the pee pee terrorist.

    2. Tonkers, Tonkis Wonkis, Fat-cat-with-a-little-head, and Tonks from the Broncs (because of her JLo booty).

I love Sunday nights b/c it is coming on. But I will say I have to watch each episode twice at least b/c I can’t understand half of what they are saying! Am I the only one that does this? I’ll also rewind a lot so I can catch something that is muttered but obviously important to the storyline. I wish it had subtitles! My favorite characters are the “imp” and Khaleesi.

Winnie (named after Winnie on Wonder Years) is: Win, Wiener, Winnie Belle, Wiener Belle, Neener, Neen, Nee-Nee, Win-Win

Feff (thats Jeff with an “F” from a Sesame Street clip) is: Feffy, Fife, Feffalie, Feffer, The Black Footed Booby

Maggie (I just like this name) is: Mags, Magg D., Magdalene. Miggy, Miggs,Maggie May, Maggie May Hay

Ozzy (yes, that’s for Osbourne) is: Ozz, Ozzy Mo-Mo, Mo-Mo, Mo, Moey

And I’m sure many more but that’s all that comes to mind right now. Oh, and all of them get called Stinky and Baby! They must think I’m nuts!!!

Awww, so cute! I also give my cats a million nicknames. Aisha had so many that I’m impressed she managed to respond to them, haha. Tigger’s are mostly variations on his name, such as Tiggy, Tiggs, and Mr. T (he pities the fool). He has a couple other ones, though, such as Baby Boy and Bunny Cat (I’m not even sure how I thought of that one). Gizmo mostly goes by Giz, Gizzy/Gizzie (not sure how it should be spelled yet), Gizimodo, Gizmodo Dragon and Dragon Cat (only used when she’s blocking off the hallway with a very serious look on her face, lol).
