Sundays with Tabs the Cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog Mascot, Vol. 58

Tabs doesn't see the point of shaving

Do you use shave gels and creams?

Tabs is fascinated by shaving… He says he doesn’t see the point. I, on the other hand, don’t have his same appreciation for fur. 🙂 I shave about every other day, most of the time using whichever shower gel I have on hand at the time, but I do think I get closer shaves when I use a designated shaving cream, gel or lotion.

It’s more about being lazy than anything else, something I’m sure Tabs can appreciate.

Do you use shave gels and creams?

I actually used a silicone based smoothing conditioner to shave, it makes a HUGE difference.

I love the new shave cream at Victoria’s Secret. Smells yummy and works great! It’s cheap too, 3/$15.

I apologize and how my brain went blank on how to post a link ha ha.

Always always always. My skin is insanely sensitive (which, might I add, sucks.) so I have to use a shaving cream / lotion / gel — even when I do, it’s incredibly irritating! I can’t settle with one formula, or one company, or anything along those lines, because nothing seems to work well enough. I’ve just been trying different kinds blindly and hoping for the best 😛

I use just whatever soap or shower gel I am using occasionally I would use baby oil and it makes my skin so soft and moisturized. I saw on TV on several occasions that some beauty pros would use peanut butter because the oils are very good for the skin and would give a clean shave, but shaving with peanut butter constantly can get expensive. Usually when I do have time and depending where I need hair removal, I would use a waxing method. The more often I wax the least it hurts.

It depends whether or not I have shaving cream! I have to buy really expensive shaving cream (it’s nearly $12) because my skin is so sensitive. I buy Aveeno Sensitive Skin Shaving Cream when it’s on sale. Normally though, I just use my Dove sensitive skin body wash. I do notice I ten to nick myself less when I use shaving cream though!

Rae-have you tried Aveeno’s? I’m like you (except I’m hyper-sensitive) and it never has irritated me. It’s really moisturizing too. I just really hate the price! It’s nearly $12 with tax!

I love Tabs – Hes so cute 🙂 Hmm, when it comes to shaving creams, I usually use them since I shave every day, however, when I run out & don’t have backup, I have no problem using the body soap I’m using at the time to get the job done. I’m in no rush to get more the very next day.. For the most part, my skin doesn’t get irritated unless I shave with just water. Ugh! My skin doesn’t like that at all.

I have a question, pretty off topic.. What kind of phone do you have? I have the iPhone 3gs in white & for some reason, I have imagined you with the same until your Vegas trip. I then started to wonder 🙂

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday. This overcast Cali sky has me feeling lazyyyy..

I actually use hair conditioner! I use TRESemme for my hair which gives you a huge bottle for a cheap price (and good quality!) and I actually find it leaves my legs softer than, and gives just as close a shave as any shaving cream does. Just a bit of a money-saving trick that actually has good beauty results too 🙂

I do, sometimes. I usually use my body wash when its lathered as my shaving “cream”

I use Caress Berry Indulging Body Wash & when I do use a shaving cream/gel, I use Skintimate Skin Therapy with Vitamin E. The pink one. =]

I prefer using the Schick Intuition, so it lathers as you shave. It costs a bit more, but I try to get it on special (eg. Christmas gift packs) or when there’s a bonus Airmiles promotion at Safeway. Otherwise, I use whatever shower gel I have to shave.

Maybe I’m the only one here, but I go to salon and wax. I never shaved, I’ve always used hot wax and I can definitely say that my hair becomes visible after 3 weeks.

like daphne, i use hair conditioner instead of shave gel. works just as well, and much cheaper, esp since i use suave brand (no particular variety, but the last one i got was coconut i think).

I usually use a shaving cream, but when I run out of it, I use hair conditioner instead. It works really well and leaves my skin so soft and smooth!

I chucked my shaving cream a while ago already. I keep on forgetting to bring it to the shower. Hair conditioner or lathered up body wash works fine, too. So far, I haven’t gotten any nicks or cuts yet 🙂

I usually use shaving cream, but if I am in a jam I will use hair conditioner. I read about using conditioner a long time ago, and it works decently well, better than shower gel in my opinion.

Bath and Body Works used to make this shower foam and it used to double as a shower gel and shaving cream….great stuff, especially for travel. I sometimes see it at their semi annual sales.

I used to use shaving gel, but I find that conditioner (just make sure it’s silicone-based) works even better — and it costs less. I just stop by the grocery store and pick up a cheapo one. It’s a lot less expensive than my previous shaving gels of choice!

Hawt damn! That’s a trick I haven’t tried yet. Thanks for the heads up … I’ll have to do this tonight in the shower.

    Karen,
Girl I HAVE to use shave gel everytime. I also exfoliate before and then put the shave gel on. My favorite is Skintimate baby oil (the one in the blue can). When I lived in Colorado I LOVED a brand called Melt that made a shaving butter. So delish!!

      Hi Tania,

I will have to see if I can track that brand down. It sounds almost good enough to eat!

Been watching The City lately? I’ve given up on The Hills.

I did not do before Gilette sent me some of their new shave balm with avocado and stuff. I always had itchy legs *lol* now I started using the gel, but it gets empty very fast.
    And why?
I discovered that my boyfriend uses it too, it is much more softer then the men’s shaving gel!

I always use shaving cream/gel because I’ve heard that using soap or shower gel will dull the blades faster. I also don’t get as close a shave when I use soap or shower gel, but I’ll use either one in a pinch.

      Hi Anne,

I’ve noticed that I get a closer shave with creams/gels too. Do you have a favorite?
