May Day (May 1st) is also known as Lei Day in Hawaii, and it’s a statewide celebration of the aloha spirit and the giving of the flower lei. No matter which day of the week May 1st falls on, the Lei Day Celebration takes place at Queen Kapiolani Park in Waikiki. The annual event features live music, a stunning lei contest exhibit, hula performances, demonstrations, craft and food vendors, and so much more!
Tabs LOVED Lei Day (obvs), and he was a huge horticulturalist. Straight up, he was a fiend for flowers, especially of the edible variety.
No matter what he was doing or where he was, Tabs wore a lei every May 1st. He loved holidays that allowed him to flex his creative muscles.
Tabs was also a skilled lei kumu, or teacher. He taught all of the neighborhood kitties how to string their own, and then of course how to work them on the runway.

Those watercolors are absolutely gorgeous! You could sell those in your online store. I have been thinking about you and Tabs lately, because I know you are coming up on the 1 year anniversary of Tabs crossing the Rainbow Bridge. I hope you are doing well. It can’t be easy to mark such an anniversary during such a weird and stressful time like the world is going through right now. I hope you can find peace and joy in your many memories, and that you and Connor Claire and EL Hub, and Rosie have a wonderful week, and can spend time doing things that make you happy and bring you joy. Sending much love and air hugs your way.
