Oh, boy! This coming week is supposed to be the hottest of the year so far. We’re talkin’ multiple days pushing 100 degrees. So, as you may know depending on where you live and how hot it gets, that kind of heat takes planning. Know what I mean? You can’t just casually waltz into 100-degree days like, doop-da-doo, I’ll just go about my business as usual even though it’s hot enough to fry an egg outside.
We gotta make sure all the windows are open early to bring in the cooler air and then button the place up before it’s too late. We have to water the plants outside not much later than dawn or it’ll cook them, then remember to water them again after dusk. Gotta make sure any work outside gets done either shortly after dawn or way after dusk. You know, it’s a process!
Another thing, the flowers. Pretty much every flower anywhere outside is going to be toasted by the end of the week, which got me thinking… My tabby sure loved flowers. Here’s a look back at a post of his from June of 2018, featuring some of his most iconic floral creations.
Not even my cat got me flowers for my birthday yesterday. 🙁 So I passive aggressively sent him pics from his recent floral-inspired kitty modeling exploits to remind him of his transgression.
We play psychological games like that with each other… We’re Real Housewives like that.
Sometimes Tabs can be very sweet, but when he’s crabby, the claws will come out!
My heart’s ❤️ full of love, though, so I’ll forgive him this time.

We’ve already been having that kind of weather in north central Texas – but with the additional problems of the humidity, and the low temperatures often not getting below 82 degrees (so we can’t open windows around dawn – you’d just let VERY humid, warm air into the house). Generally speaking, we can’t air out houses in this area from early May until about the 3rd week of October. After you live in Texas for a few years, you understand why a Civil War Union general said, “If I owned Hell and I owned Texas, I’d live in Hell and rent out Texas.” I water outside containers at least once a day, and water the yard flowers once or twice a day. Zinnias are pretty heat and drought tolerant. My Shasta daisies are petering out for the season. I have a large plumbago plant in a very large pot that’s been doing very well. If you want blue flowers in the summer, it’s a great choice. I have a few other heat-tolerant plants in containers. Texas has such weird weather and weird soils that you have to pick your plants wisely.
I think roses were just made for Tabs abd I love that pic of him in a kimono!
We’re lucky in the UK – rain most of the week ahead.
