This or That: The Beauty Grab Bag Edition

May 18th, 2021 by Karen 12 Comments

You never know what you’re going to get!

How to play

Pick one or the other for each of the questions below, and copy/paste your answers in the comments. Can’t wait to see your picks! Mine are listed below. ?

This or That: The Beauty Grab Bag Edition

  • Foundation, BB cream or CC cream?
  • Set with powder or set with a setting spray?
  • High beam highlights or a contour that could cut glass?
  • Color corrector — green, purple, blue or orange?
  • Touch-up time — do you use blotting paper or pressed powder?
  • Eyelash serum or eyebrow serum?
  • Neutral eyeshadow palette: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette?
  • Liquid liner — flexible felt tip or stiff felt tip?
  • Brows — natural and defined OR full and bold?
  • Fragrance — floral or fresh?
  • More fragrance — warm and spicy OR earthy and woody?

Foundation, BB cream or CC cream?

BB cream, because it’s the sheerest option.

Set with powder or set with a setting spray?

Setting spray, please! I really love the one by Urban Decay.

High beam highlights or a contour that could cut glass?

Honestly, neither. But if forced to choose…I’d go with the highlights.

Color corrector — green, purple, blue, orange or peach?

Peach, please! I’d use just a touch on the inner corner of my eyes and on my upper lip.

Touch-up time — do you use blotting paper or pressed powder?

Blotting paper for the win. Shiseido makes a great one that I used to use back in the day!

Eyelash serum or eyebrow serum?

Eyelash serum, please and thank you.

Neutral eyeshadow palette — Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette?

I love both, but I like having the variety of finishes in the Tarte palette. A girl’s gotta have choices, ya know? ?

Liquid liner — flexible felt tip or stiff felt tip?

Flexible felt tip. It’s just so much easier for me to control.

Brows — natural and defined OR full and bold?

Natural and defined all the way!

Fragrance — floral or fresh?

I could use a floral right now, got any recs?

More fragrance — warm and spicy OR earthy and woody?

Earthy and woody; however, I don’t want to smell like dirt, LOL! Give me some mossy notes any day.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy Tuesday! ?

    So many choices to make!!

Foundation, BB cream or CC cream?
BB cream. For the same reason as you.

Set with powder or set with a setting spray?
    Setting spray, they don’t cake!

High beam highlights or a contour that could cut glass?
Neither, but like you, highlights if pressed.

Color corrector — green, purple, blue or orange?
I’ve been told green, so I’ll go with green!

Touch-up time — do you use blotting paper or pressed powder?
I used to use blotting paper on the subway in sticky hot weather, and it worked great.

    Eyelash serum or eyebrow serum?
Neither, all set in both departments!

Neutral eyeshadow palette: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette?
The neutral palette I really like is the Jane Iredale one you reviewed not long ago. The finishes are soooo pretty. The colors are spot on.

Liquid liner — flexible felt tip or stiff felt tip?
    Flexible!

Brows — natural and defined OR full and bold?
Natural and defined. Though my brows are pretty full, so it’s sort of both.

    Fragrance — floral or fresh?
Both! I am loving fresh citrus scents right now. And I just bought Fleur de Vigne by Caudalie, which is really lovely. It’s a body spray more than a perfume, strictly speaking, but lasts and has a lovely scent.

More fragrance — warm and spicy OR earthy and woody?
I used to love Opium but haven’t gotten on board with the latest formulas. But some of the new YSL and Hermès releases are beautiful in the warm and spicy realm.

    Happy Tuesday, Karen!

Happy Tuesday! Your caption is like a box of chocolates. 🙂

Foundation, BB cream or CC cream? BB – it’s the slipperiest.
Set with powder or set with a setting spray? Powder, I guess. I’ve tried lots of setting sprays and they have a stickiness I don’t care for.
High beam highlights or a contour that could cut glass? I’ll take the contour. I think it would be more slimming. HAHA!
Color corrector — green, purple, blue or orange? You must have added peach later. But I’m going with green anyway. HAHA!
Touch-up time — do you use blotting paper or pressed powder? Or the back of my hand? 😉
Eyelash serum or eyebrow serum? Both! I’d definitely take the lash serum if it was guaranteed not to turn my eyes brown. That’s not a slam on brown eyes. Just that I like my green.
Neutral eyeshadow palette: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette? I’m sure I’d love them all, but haven’t tried them so it would be unfair to pick.
Liquid liner — flexible felt tip or stiff felt tip? Fat and flexible.
Brows — natural and defined OR full and bold? Natural and defined.
Fragrance — floral or fresh? Fresh.
More fragrance — warm and spicy OR earthy and woody? Warm and spicy (but no musk).

Foundation, BB cream or CC cream? Foundation, because all the ones I love are sheer to light coverage.
Set with powder or set with a setting spray? Powder, I can control where I place it. Setting spray feels like I’m putting hairspray on my face.
High beam highlights or a contour that could cut glass? Neither.
Color corrector — green, purple, blue, orange or peach? Peach under the eyes. Yellow to tone down any redness.
Touch-up time — do you use blotting paper or pressed powder? Blotting paper.
Eyelash serum or eyebrow serum? Eyelash.
Neutral eyeshadow palette: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette? Urban Decay. I’ve never loved any Tarte palettes I’ve bought, so they’ve always been returned.
Liquid liner — flexible felt tip or stiff felt tip? Neither. I like pencil liners.
Brows — natural and defined OR full and bold? Natural
Fragrance — floral or fresh? Floral. Hermes 24 Faubourg, Jour d’Hermes and Hermes Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. For roses L’Arte di Gucci.
More fragrance — warm and spicy OR earthy and woody? Oriental Woody.

Foundation, BB cream or CC cream? CC Cream — I have rosacea.

Set with powder or set with a setting spray? Both — I have oily skin.

High beam highlights or a contour that could cut glass? Highlights

Color corrector — green, purple, blue or orange? Green to counteract the redness from my rosacea.

Touch-up time — do you use blotting paper or pressed powder? Blotting papers

Eyelash serum or eyebrow serum? Eyelash

Neutral eyeshadow palette: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette? Tartelette in bloom. Naked2 Basics isn’t flattering on me.

Liquid liner — flexible felt tip or stiff felt tip? Flexible

Brows — natural and defined OR full and bold? Natural and defined.

Fragrance — floral or fresh? Floral, but not heavy. I go for white floral a lot.

More fragrance — warm and spicy OR earthy and woody? Warm and spicy

Foundation, BB cream or CC cream?
    Foundation
Set with powder or set with a setting spray?
Powders, sprays don’t do anything for me
High beam highlights or a contour that could cut glass?
Neither, but I occasionally wear a gentle highlighter
Color corrector — green, purple, blue or orange?
I guess green for some redness coverage
Touch-up time — do you use blotting paper or pressed powder?
I need both, my skin is that oily
    Eyelash serum or eyebrow serum?
My eyelashes are sparse but I’m wary of those serums…
Neutral eyeshadow palette: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette?
Tarte. I’m not a fan of Urban Decay.
Liquid liner — flexible felt tip or stiff felt tip?
I’ve never worn it but I suppose stiff might work better for me.
Brows — natural and defined OR full and bold?
    Natural and defined
    Fragrance — floral or fresh?
    Floral
More fragrance — warm and spicy OR earthy and woody?
    Earthy and woody

Foundation, BB cream or CC cream? I love love love the sheer face and body by MAC, nice and sheer but hides imperfections
Set with powder or set with a setting spray? Neither – I’m always in a rush for some reason – lol
High beam highlights or a contour that could cut glass? highlights are so fun – definitely highlights
Color corrector — green, purple, blue or orange? Light pink actually for my blue/purple undereye area
Touch-up time — do you use blotting paper or pressed powder? a kleenex but it is dry out here in Western Canada so luckily little slides off due to the humidity
Neutral eyeshadow palette: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette? Well – I tried both but am more a fan of MAC’s Art Library in Nude Model
Liquid liner — flexible felt tip or stiff felt tip? Fkexible for sure!!! Easier in the crepey eye lid areas
Brows — natural and defined OR full and bold? Natural and defined on me but I love how others can rock a nice bold look
Fragrance — floral or fresh? Light floral like Jo Malone Orange Blossom
More fragrance — warm and spicy OR earthy and woody? Warm and Spicy like Black Opium MMMM so nice

Neutral eyeshadow palette: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette? In Bloom!

Foundation, BB cream or CC cream? Foundation. A light to medium foundation that is buildable is so versatile.

Set with powder or set with a setting spray? I always finish my makeup with a very light application of loose finishing powder to pull everything together. My current fave is Sisley’s loose powder in Irisée.

High beam highlights or a contour that could cut glass? I’m at an age where such obvious extremes are far from flattering, but if I must, I’ll go with highlights on my cheekbones.

Color corrector — green, purple, blue or orange? Peach does such a good job of eliminating the shadows in the inner corner of my eyes, but in truth, I never use correctors.

Touch-up time — do you use blotting paper or pressed powder? Neither. I have dry skin so my face never needs blotting.

Eyelash serum or eyebrow serum? I like eyelash serum to keep my lashes in good condition. My brows don’t need any help. They’re fine just the way they are.

Neutral eyeshadow palette: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette or Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette? I’ll go with UD.

Liquid liner — flexible felt tip or stiff felt tip? Flexible.

Brows — natural and defined OR full and bold? My brows are dark and naturally well shaped so I just leave them alone.

Fragrance — floral or fresh? Spring always puts me in the mood for florals.

More fragrance — warm and spicy OR earthy and woody? I love warm and spicy.
