How to play

Pick one or the other for each of the questions below, and copy/paste your answers in the comments. Can’t wait to see your picks! Mine are listed below. ?

This or That: The High- or Low-End Beauty Edition, Part II

  • Loose or pressed?
  • Translucent or tinted?
  • Mineral or non-mineral powder?
  • Baking with powder — yes or no?
  • Sponge, puff or brush applicator?
  • High-end powder or budget-friendly powder?
  • Yellow “banana” powders — yes or no?
  • Glowing or matte finish?
  • More powder or less?

Loose or pressed?

Pressed, but only if it’s MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural; otherwise, loose…because I think they look more natural on my skin.

Translucent or tinted?

Li’l bit of tint please, but not full coverage, because I think it looks too heavy on my pores.

Mineral or non-mineral powder?

Hmm… Mineral powders tend to look thicker than non-mineral on my skin, so non-mineral.

Baking with powder — yes or no?

No thank you. I’m going to give this one a hard pass.

Sponge, puff or brush applicator?

Brush, baby!

High-end powder or budget-friendly powder?

There are so many great ones among both, but I’ll go with high-end because they just seem to have that little extra something-something. But I use and like both budget and pricey powders.

Yellow “banana” powders — yes or no?

Ya know, I feel like it’s just an extra step, so it’s a no for this gal!

Glowing or matte finish?

Glowing for real life and matte for pics.

More powder or less?

My “wizened” skin and face say less.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy Wednesday! ?

Loose or pressed? Loose at home, pressed if I’m traveling. I have to admit I like the pressed Charlotte Tilbury one more than I thought I would.
    Translucent or tinted? Translucent
Mineral or non-mineral powder? Either. Bobbi Brown used to have a loose mineral powder foundation that was so finely milled it made my skin perfection. So of course they discontinued it.
Baking with powder — yes or no? No. Absolutely not.
Sponge, puff or brush applicator? Brush
High-end powder or budget-friendly powder? Either, but most of the ones I love are high end.
Yellow “banana” powders — yes or no? Yes. They tend to knock back the redness from my rosacea.
Glowing or matte finish? Demi matte?
    More powder or less? Less

Loose or pressed? Loose finishing powder for the win!

Translucent or tinted? Just a hint of tint to enliven the complexion.

Mineral or non-mineral powder? Non-mineral. I don’t like the way mineral, powders reflect the light. They look heavy.

Baking with powder — yes or no? No! I think it is too theatrical for everyday wear.

Sponge, puff or brush applicator? I love a large, soft brush. My current favorite is La Mer’s powder brush.

High-end powder or budget-friendly powder? High end from Italy or France.

Yellow “banana” powders — yes or no? No. I’m not a banana—lol

Glowing or matte finish? I like a soft, satin-matte glow. I’ve been wearing makeup for decades and have worn all the various trends in powder finishes—everything from flat matte to disco-ball luminosity. I’m really liking today’s luminous matte.

More powder or less? Less is more; especially as I get older. Just a whisper of an über fine finishing powder pulls everything together and softly blurs the imperfections. Yes, us oldsters can wear powder! It’s a matter of finding a finely-milled one that enhances the complexion and then applying it sparingly.

    Loose or pressed?
Like both, loose for under the eyes and pressed for all over the face.

    Translucent or tinted?
    Translucent.

    Mineral or non-mineral powder?
    Both are fine with me.

Baking with powder — yes or no?
    No.

    Sponge, puff or brush applicator?
    Brush.

    High-end powder or budget-friendly powder?
I like both high-end and budget friendly.

Yellow “banana” powders — yes or no?
I used to use banana powders but I got to a point where I hardly used them anymore.

    Glowing or matte finish?
    Glowing.

    More powder or less?
    Less!

Extra fun because I ordered a powder this week!
Loose or pressed? Pressed. I feel like it works better. More matte & less poof in the air!
Translucent or tinted? Tinted for the even skin tone.
    Mineral or non-mineral powder? Both?
Baking with powder — yes or no? Never tried this technique.
Sponge, puff or brush applicator? Brush!
High-end powder or budget-friendly powder? High end please.
Yellow “banana” powders — yes or no? I’d like to try this.
Glowing or matte finish? Matte! Then I’ll add the glow with bronzer or highlighter.
    More powder or less? Mmmmless..

    Loose or pressed?
    Loose, even though it’s messier.
Unless I took the time to find a pressed that I love.

    Translucent or tinted?
    Like you, very lightly tinted.

    Mineral or non-mineral powder?
Don’t know, can’t say I even noticed what mine is.

Baking with powder — yes or no?
I don’t know what baking is in the makeup world.
But it makes me want to make a favorite recipe for gluten free chocolate chip cookies.

    Sponge, puff or brush applicator?
    Brush

    High-end powder or budget-friendly powder?
Budget friendly-I use a luminescent one from ELF.

Yellow “banana” powders — yes or no?
I don’t know what that is.

    Glowing or matte finish?
    Glowing

    More powder or less?
    Most certainly less

Loose or pressed? Loose for setting my concealer, pressed for going over T-zone shine
Translucent or tinted? Translucent, but slightly tinted is fine.
Mineral or non-mineral powder? I like and use both, but use non-mineral most of the time. (Mineral for pimples.)
Baking with powder — yes or no? Yes- at first I wasn’t a “believer”, but it does really help to set my concealer and make it stay!
Sponge, puff or brush applicator? I use all 3. Sponge for baking, puff for T-zone shine, and brush for setting pimples with powder.
High-end powder or budget-friendly powder? I have bare minerals and Becca.
Yellow “banana” powders — yes or no? I tried it, but it makes me look sick or jaundiced, lol.
    Glowing or matte finish? Matte
More powder or less? Depends. In the summer, more because I’m very shiny. In winter, less.

Loose or pressed? Loose for home and pressed in my purse for touch-ups.

Translucent or tinted? Translucent — most brands don’t make a tinted one light enough for me.

Mineral or non-mineral powder? I like both, but usually I use non-mineral.

Baking with powder — yes or no? Big NO

Sponge, puff or brush applicator? Brush

High-end powder or budget-friendly powder? Budget friendly. Usually I use RCMA No Color Powder or e.l.f. HD Powder.

Yellow “banana” powders — yes or no? No on my face, yes under my eyes if I have really dark circles that day.

Glowing or matte finish? Matte — I have oily skin, so my powder doesn’t stay matte for long.

More powder or less? Less — I use it over my entire face, but I don’t use a ton of it. Lots of powder on oily skin ends up looking cakey.
