Good morning and happy Tuesday! I’m trying a new makeup and hair uniform this week — monochromatic lids, lips and cheeks with a casual braided crown.
I used a multi-use cream by Ilia in a warm coral pink to easily pull the makeup together before a video meeting. Technically the cream is designed to be worn as blush and lipstick, but I decided to wear it as an eyeshadow just for fun. I see makeup artists doing this kind of thing all the time so I’m comfortable with experimenting, but ya know, you do you!
So, this hairstyle. I call it a “casual braided crown” because it’s one of those looks that’s supposed to be a little messy. I didn’t really realize just how messy it was until I took a pic of the back, OMG!
I just made this face when I realized the craziness happening back there…
Nobody on video calls actually sees the back of your head so I’m totally fine with it, but I’m seriously cracking up with how crazy it is, LOL!
Anyway, anybody else trying a “uniform” this week?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Dang, Karen! I’m impressed you decided to do the braided crown this week. That takes time every day! Sure it’s a little crazy in the back, but nobody at work is going to see that, so who cares? 🙂 I’ve honestly stopped wearing makeup on Zoom calls because I don’t think ANY of it shows up, except a bit of lipstick. So really, no one is going to notice the creasing on the video! I did notice it right away in your high-quality pictures though, lol. This is a good look though! I love how sunny your dress is, too.

Hi, SJ! Believe it or not, the braided crown doesn’t take me much time. It’s 10 minutes, tops. I like that I get to skip the heat styling! Also leaning into the messiness of it helps. Maybe try wearing a little bit of lipstick on your next video call?
SJ says
I’m impressed it doesn’t take you much time 🙂 and yeah, I do love my lipstick… I’ll try to remember to do it! I don’t have many calls coming up but gosh I want to wear more lipstick.

I love the braided crown. My mom had butt length wavy hair and wore it in a similar style when she’d go to,work. She never worried too much about the back because she had to wear a nurse’s cap which fit perfectly into the depression. That was back in the day when nurses wore white shoes, white nylons, a white uniform (no pants!), and a starched white cap. Memories!
Karen says
Hmm, maybe I should get a little hat to cover up the back?!
Fern says
Karen, you just look so fresh and elegant in these pics!
Karen says
Thank you, Fern! The best part about this whole thing is that it was easy peasy.
I hope that you are doing OK on your end of the keyboard!

I love it! Your hair looks so beautiful like that. I’d love to learn how to braid my hair like that, I should look up some tutorials! Beautifully done.

The braids are beautiful. I’m going to do some sort of braid tomorrow because I didn’t wash my hair LOL.

I think your braid looks fab and am very impressed since my easy-peasy french braids looked a lot worse in the day. I mean, honestly, how can you work when you just can’t see back there?! Don’t get me started about “use a mirror”. 🙂 This is a great look all around!

Love this look on you and maybe that’s messy for you but not for me. I always have hair or a collar askew. I blame my writer brain 😂😒🙌🏻.
I’m going to have to grab a tube of that Ilia you’ve got on. Do you have any other colors?
Also I love that dress. Did you do a big shop before the first day? I’d love to see your haul.
Anne says
That is actually the least messy crown braid I have seen outside hair dresser tutorials on YouTube!
Honestly, mine looks far worse, but as I am on the taller side for a woman, I usually think most people won’t notice anyway.
