Win an eGift Card in Today's Sephora Giveaway

Rise and shine, morning glory! 🙂 Guess who has a new obsession?

Yep, I’ve become obsessed lately with a series of videos on Vimeo called the Take Away Shows, which are basically these intimate, seemingly impromptu acoustic sets performed by musicians around the world, mostly in public venues, like while strolling down a city sidewalk, walking through a park or by an empty hotel bar.

And they’ve turned me on to a bunch of artists I’d never heard of before, like Hanni El Khatib.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a live performance…

Well, there was that kickin’ rock cover band at the summer fair in the parking lot of the mall last year (behind the Panera Bread and the T-Mobile store), but other than that, I don’t know — maybe the San Francisco Symphony performing with Duncan Sheik in 2010. That was a fun.

I’ve always loved live music, but these days I gotta have somewhere to sit, haha! I just don’t have the stamina/wherewithal to stand for two hours and wait for a band to start playing at 11. Seriously, 11 is my bedtime now.

Okay, that sounded very Liz Lemony…

How about we pretend I didn’t say it and get on with the giveaway? 🙂

Win a $50 gift card from Sephora

  • One (1) Sephora eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

  • There are two ways to enter, and you can do both of them for two chances to win. First, you can enter by leaving a comment at the bottom of this post, a comment about anything at all, like, when was the last time you went to a concert (and who performed)? Have you ever worn a costume or crazy makeup to a concert? Have you ever sung in front of an audience before? Are you having a good hair day today? Whom would you like to see perform live? — you get the idea.
  • Second, you can enter by following me on twitter Twitter @karenmbb and retweeting (RT) the following message:
    • Follow @karenmbb and RT to Win a $50 eGift Card from Sephora! http://bit.ly/wWPRrZ

  • The deadline to enter is Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 11:59PM (PT).
  • Entrants must enter using a valid email address and/or Twitter account to win.
  • A maximum of two (2) entries per person — one within the comments at the bottom of this post, and a second entry via Twitter addressed to me @karenmbb.
  • Contest is open to individuals of any country who have reached the age of majority according to their local laws (18 in the United States with these exceptions: Alabama and Nebraska, 19; Mississippi, 21).
  • Sephora eGift Certificates can only be redeemed online and are not valid in stores or available for purchase or redemption in Canada. International winners may opt to substitute the Sephora eGift card prize for $50 sent directly to their email address by PayPal instead.
  • Tabs and I (heretofore referred to as “T-Money and K-Dawg”) will select one (1) winner at random from the entries either left in the comments at the bottom of this blog post or addressed to @karenmbb on Twitter.
  • The winner will be announced here within 48 hours of the deadline.
  • Void where prohibited by law.

One of the most memorable concerts I ever attended was The Jacksons — about three years before “Thriller” came out and Michael became a megastar. They were sensational.

Since I have been into makeup couple years now, I haven’t really attended a live concert before that I was into concerts but I guess it’s solely due to me being a parent now & not finding the time for all those old habits.

Whoop! Whoop! What a great giveaway.
I love Sephora, much better than Ulta, certainly for the reward program!
I’ve been to 3 concerts in my live. As a teenager I went to see the Backstreet Boys, and the 3T’s (MJ’s nehews). And then later in my early twenties I went to see Calogero – a french/italian singer – still in love with him, but from the US it’s hard ’cause he isn’t known here at all.
The reason why I don’t go to concerts more often, is just because I don’t like the crowd, and being pushed everywhere. This counts for mall shopping too, I rather go during the week, and avoid lunchtime.

Luckily Clapton laughed too. The heckler was soon silenced when Clapton began to play “Layla” – Awesome night!!

What’s really cool is that I got to meet them, because my ex-husband’s aunt used to date Joe (they were also dating for a bit one of the times I saw him). We went to Niagara Falls & even to our apartment to hang out. He was very nice and even my cat really liked him, as shown when she brought him one of her favorite pom poms for him to throw. 😀

Last time I went to a concert it was warned tour over summer and it was amazing. I’m have a really good hair day I did a cool new hairstyle where you do a upside down French braid at the back of your head only half way and then put the rest of your hair in a bun. I got compliments from my mom, cousin and bf on how cool it looks.

I’m having a good hair day, but I know that won’t last. It’s rainy and windy out, so the moment I step outside my hair is going to go crazy and frizzy. Just a general yucky weather day.

The last concert I went to was 2 hours from where I live, on a Wednesday, and I went by myself. The group is from Norway, and I had been waiting for them to be coming someone close to where I live for years, and none of my friends wanted to go because it was in the middle of a work week and weren’t particularly fans. I got to meet to band and had a blast. We actually chat on occasion online 😀

I used to go to immense rock concerts all the time, when I was a teenager. Monsters of Rock, Ozzy, AC/DC, Van Halen, Whitesnake, Aerosmith, GNR, I went to ALL the hair metal shows in Boston.

My last rock concert was many moons ago– like, back in the 89. It was a triple header of BJ with both Billy Squier and Sid Row opening, and Sam Kinison emceed and performed comedy– a huge, amazing show that definately gave us bang for our buck.

I’ve been to classical, jazz, folk etc. performances since then, but that was my last big-venue rock bash. Sometimes I miss the old days 🙂

When was the last time you went to a concert (and who performed)?
About 9 years ago, I went to a Goo Goo Dolls concert in college with a few girlfriends.

Have you ever worn a costume or crazy makeup to a concert?
    Nope, just normal clothes.

Have you ever sung in front of an audience before?
Sort of. I did karaoke once in college. I sang “Thank You” by Dido and I was so petrified that my voice kept wobbling. When I finished the DJ said, “Not bad for a first timer!” I couldn’t tell if he meant that insultingly or genuinely.

Are you having a good hair day today?
It’s just twisted up into a messy knot with an elastic band, so I guess so?

Whom would you like to see perform live?
    Gogol Bordello!

The last time that I went to a concert was actually in October of 2011 in Las Vegas Neveda!! I am from Ohio and my best friend from Toronto, Canada. We had one day free before the festival started (it was a two day thing, the 48 Hours Festival) and we walked around Vegas, gambled a bit and went sight seeing and then the day of the concert we actually met two people who knew the band we were most excited to see and we got to go to the after party at the Palms hotel. It was literally the best day of my life! Then the second day of the festival we ended up going later in the day because we didn’t care about too much of the bands and we met The Situation from Jersey Shore! It was literally one of the craziest weekends of my life and I had so much fun! It was also the last time I saw my best friend and I cant wait to go to another concert with her again!

the only hair mask ive used where my bf [the next day] noticed a difference and said how soft my hair was (didnt tell him i used anything). not a fan of the smell though. so i washed it out like 10 times, but that just shows how awesome it is. all that washing out and and still a noticeable difference.
M&B readers try this stuff!! and if you like the smell get the whole set! a little pricey, youll get your dollars worth though.

i loveee that show!!! i sure hope it comes back! they say hand written letters [sent to nbc] are the best thing to help save a show. critics rave, but its just not getting the viewership for some reason. but 2 1/2 men is one of the most popular shows? ughh. people are so stupid sometimes.

What do you think is the longest time it’s OK to not wash your hair? I’ve gone up to 4 days, but by then it looks super super super gross (but I’m just WAY too busy to have time to wait for my hair to dry before sleeping, so I just don’t wash my hair that often). The most I can go with my hair looking good the entire day is 2. On Day 3, it starts out looking fine, but by the time I get back home, it looks like a grease-ball.

Hi Karen! So, I like your topic for today’s contest because it reminds me of a time when I did used to sing in front of audiences- a lot! I was/am/forever will be part of a girl’s singing group who did cover songs (mostly Destiny’s Child!). Sigh, it was such a fun part of my life. Thanks for bringing me back! As for future concerts… I just bought my tix for Madonna at HP Pavillion in San Jose in October! Are you going?!

Speaking of good hair days, as a matter of fact I am! I used a tiny bit of olive oil on my hair because this morning I had to rush out the door to get someone lovely to work. When I came back I realized my hair was already starting to frizz…so olive oil to the rescue!

I used to sing in front of crowds a lot but I would get bad stage fright and I just decided it wasn’t worth the stress. Now I just sing around the house all the time.

The first concert I ever went to without my parents was Hanson – I went with my best friend at the time and we wore those giant Dr. Seuss hats because we wanted to sneak in a bag of Hershey Kisses. So ridiculous!

Last time I went to a concert was at Coachella. I fainted from the heat and was thrown over the crowd fencing to safety by my concerned and very clearly superhumanly strong sister, who hitched up her skirt to make it over the fence and showed the jumbotron her polka dot knickers.

Oh and the gorgeous Brandon Flowers had just appeared onstage at that moment to witness this hilarity going on below him. I would have died. Had I not been unconcious.

I want to go again this year, but really don’t know how I could ever top that:)
