A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway

Time to rise and shine (and spring forward!). 🙂

Happy Saturday, friend. I’ve been having a very nice morning so far. It’s sunny here today, so I’ve got the drapes open while I read magazines at the dining room table, drink my coffee and fiddle around online.

Not sure what I’m gonna do yet today… Part of me wants to go for a walk, or maybe a picnic (or both!), but we’ll see. I definitely want to do something outside.

I hope your weekend got off to a good start. Have you entered this weekend’s Sephora eCard giveaway yet? It only takes a comment and/or tweet. Full deets are down below.

What folks are saying…

“Hi Karen!!! Wow, that news definitely gets a hoo ray ray and an elephant!!! (I’ve maybe been watching too much Boardwalk Empire.) Thank you so much!!!”
-Shana

“What a lovely surprise it was to see your announcement (after completing one of many exams/papers/projects I have this crazy week)! The eCard will definitely ease expenses for this broke, beauty-obsessed college student. Thank you, Karen and Tabs!!”
-Katie

“Thanks so much, Karen. Just in case you were wondering what I got with it, I decided to go with the Clarisonic Mia–I’ve been wanting it for years now, but have never purchased it because of the price. Your eCard helped me finally buy it! I look forward to using it. Thanks again!”
-Jane

“Shut the front door! OMG Karen, you have made my day. 🙂 I’m sick in bed with the flu and this has just cheered me up immensely!!!!!!!! BTW, I’m the one that sent you that pic of my pug in a wig a few weeks back LOL! Thanks again, honestly, I’m beyond giddy right now.”
-Angel

“Thank you SO much Karen! OMG! Wishes really do come true! I can’t believe I won! You have no idea how much this will help me through the holidays. I’ve been an avid fan of your blog for the past two years. Your witty and creative entries, informative makeup information, and beautiful photos have kept me hooked. I look forward to more of it. Goodness, you’ve
seriously just made my week and it’s only Tuesday night!”
-Zharlynne

“Oh my goodness! Thank you so much Karen (and Tabs, of course)! I really appreciate this! I’d been eyeing the Anastasia brow pencil in Strawburn to match my red hair!”
-Chelsea (and Jiji the kitten and Quincy the bunny)

Describe the best bathroom you’ve ever seen. How do you feel about highlighters (the makeup kind)? — you get the idea.
  • Second, you can enter by following me on twitter Twitter @karenmbb and retweeting (RT) the following message:

The best thing that has happened this year is easy 🙂 on Jan. 22 my mom received a lung transplant, and I was able to spent three and a half weeks with my parents, helping them through the initial stages of recovery 🙂 I wouldn’t trade that time for anything.

And therefore I can say, the best thing that happened to my skin this year was buying MUFE’s Mat Velvet+ foundation, it just rocks! I can’t think of ‘the best thing’ that happened so far this year. There are a lot of ‘smaller’ things that make me very happy and grateful on a daily basis: my husband and my cat (I love them more every day), business is going well, amazing friends around,… Maybe the thing that excites me the most is that my mother finally decided to travel with me to Florida – just a girls trip. The time together with her is very important to me.

My biggest skin dilemmas are acne and dry skin, i can’t do much for the acne, and the dry skin is because of the weather i get wind burn easily. I’ve been using Yu-Be from sephora and it helps a bit. I’m currently also using Miracle Skin Transformer’s Heal Everything Balm, that’s little .80 oz is like $25! I will go thru it in 2 weeks!

I dont know if its a best kept secret but i use baby lotion as a primer for my powder foundation and it works beautifully on my skin. It makes it look like a matte liquid finish. Im so excited for this weekend. I declared this the relaxed weekend where i just netflix a bunch of shows and watch it with my hubby. Pajamas and all 🙂

My beauty secret? Wearing sunscreen rain or shine! Even if it’s a foggy day, I protect my skin daily with sunscreen. Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer is my go-to. With an SPF of 40+, I am confident knowing that I am lessening my risk for skin damage, particularly on my face. Both lightweight and nongreasy, as well as being a moisturizer? You can’t go wrong with that.

I have yet to find a dry shampoo that I like, actually. ALL of the aerosol ones I’ve tried make my hair smell really gross and/or feel REALLY disgusting–I mean even greasier than before! The only powdered one I’ve tried is Oscar Blandi’s version and while I don’t really like the lemon Lysol-scent, it’s not the worst. I still don’t feel really clean when I use it though, and my hair doesn’t feel any better so I don’t really use it that often :/

Maybe it’s my oily skin that looks shiny after a few hours no matter what I do to it, but highlighters always seem to be either not doing a thing or doing too much! Not a technique I’ve felt the need to work on either; I’d rather master the cat eye!

My biggest beauty concern is that I sweat a lot! I’m in surgical menopause so I have brutal hot flashes that melt makeup! So, I moisturiZe & prime then use UD Primer Potion, Loreal Infallible eyeshadow or Maybelline Color Tattoo color as base colors. Then I layer other shadow on top while the other colors are still “Drying” I add other less long wearing colors that I like. My favorite & fastest look is to use (Loreal) Amber Rush on inner 1/3 of lid & browbone, Bronzed Taupe in middle 1/3, & Bottomless Java in outer section then layer over that with UD Naked colors Sidecar & Dark Horse. Add Loreal waterproof telescopic liquid eyeliner & mascara. That gives me solid water proofing so I don’t have to worry about melting or migrating down my face. I make my own dry shampoo & I love highlighter!
