What’s Your All-Time Favorite Brow Filler?

November 21st, 2013 by Karen 47 Comments

Wearing the mighty MAC Brun Eye Shadow in my brows…

These days, like the great Sir Mix-a-lot once crooned, “I like big brows and I cannot lie!” 🙂

I like to try different brow fillers now that I have more to work with up there. I’ve been rockin’ a full brow this year (well, full for me), but I’m more courageous because I know I can always go back to my fool-proof fillers — a pan of MAC Eye Shadow in a shade that matches the color of my hair, which I’ll apply with a MAC 266 Small Angle Brush.

Easy, breezy, and I can do it when I’m half asleep. MAC Concrete used to be my shade for this (back when my hair was really dark), but these days I’m all about Brun (a muted blackish brown).

How about you? What do you use to fill your brows (if you fill your brows), and what’s your all-time favorite brow filler?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hourglass Arch in Soft Brunette is my absolute HG! I used to use eyeshadow, but my brow hair is really sparse, and eyeshadow just wasn’t cutting it! Soft Brunette on the other hand, is a perfect match shade-wise and the shape makes it easy to use.

I love what I’ve been using for the past… gosh, 3 years, I think! The bareMinerals brow powder in dark blonde, which I apply with their brow brush. Just went to their website, though and it looks like they’ve discontinued the powders! Sad day! (good thing what I have will last me a little while yet… apparently I need to start shopping around, le sigh!)

BROWLASH EX Eyebrow Pencil and Liquid. A Japanese eyebrow pencil/marker duo so I can be as precise or full as I want. I like the shade (Greyish Brown) a lot because it’s deep enough for my Asian NC20 skin without moving into pitch black territory. Usually I can pick it up in Nijiya or Ichiban Kan but it’s also available online. MSRP ~$15 depending on where you go.

I have used MAC Charcoal Brown and a small angled brush, finished whatever clear brow gel I have on hand for years. Everytime I’m makeup browsing (i.e. binging!), I will linger at brow products (particularly Benefit Gimme Brow!)but I’m afraid to move away from my tried-and-true!

Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadow in Tough As Taupe applied lightly with a slant tip brush. It has no red and lasts a long time. Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliner Pencil in Taupe applied with a light hand gives a similar result with a slightly waxy finish to help control “enthusiastic” brow hairs. If you prefer brow powder, try this Christmas eyeshadow gift set at Walgreens: Beaute by Profusion #3. For $1.00 you get 12 shases of taupe, charcoal, beige, & ivory to custom mix your own shade of “brow” powder.

I use 2 different products, depending on my mood: Shu Uemura Hard Formula pencil in Stone Grey for a really natural look or Clinique Brow Shaper in Charcoaling. And since my Shu pencil won’t fit in my travel bag I use Shiseido brow pencil in Natural Black (it’s really grey). I’m Asian w/black hair & cannot use any warm tones for my brows. I used to use MAC Brun but it pulled too brown on me. Karen your brows look fantastic as always!

When I first got into makeup, I was using Clinique’s Superfine Liner for Brows in Black/Brown. Then I came across Anastasia’s Brow Wiz, and I was hooked. I started off using Brunette, but once Ebony came out I started using that instead.

A couple of years ago when I was at CVS, I picked up a pot of Ardell Brow Powder. It was an impulse purchase, but I liked the product so much I have repurchased it! It’s a dark brown that works well with my dark hair. I have a small angled brush that I use to apply it.

My favorite brow filler is a very underrated one: Yves Rocher crayon in cendré (ash).

The spoilie is perfection, the pencil is nice and hard so it doesn’t become to much and you can really mimic real hair. It’s also very ashy in tone so it really blends nicely with my ash blonde brows.

I have a special space in my makeup storage thingy (that’s the scientific term) for brow stuff. I’m a die-hard, won’t-leave-the-house-without-my-brows kinda girl. I have to say that in a desert island scenario, brow makeup would come second only to sunscreen for me. I’m an Anastasia nut in this department, as, when I started doing my brows properly, I looked immediately to the “professional”. I use brow wiz in brunette, powder duo in ebony and clear brow gel with an angled brush from sephora every day.

My HG was Maybelline Define-a-Brow in light blonde, but that color was discontinued, wahhh.

I’ve been using Sephora Waterproof Retractable Brow Pencil in honey blonde, and its alright, but a little too reddish (I am a redhead, but my brows have no trace of red in them – they’re a medium blonde)

Currently it’s MAC Copperplate with a Bobbi Brown Eye Brow brush. As my brows are really light I tint them every three weeks. But in addition to this I need Copperplate!!! I wear glasses all the time and without a proper brow I look washed out.

I love the maybelline define a brow in dark brown. I have dark hair so it blends in nicely. Plus it’s got a really fine retractable tip so it’s great for filling in bald spots or just adding fullness. Sometimes I can get away with using MAC carbon with a light hand because I find it’s not very black.

I thought I was the only one who just used some eyeshadow and an angled liner brush. I was using the darkest brow shade in the Smashbox original master class palette. It’s my favorite – doesn’t make my brows too dark, but is very pigmented and looks pretty natural. But because I don’t like digging it up all the time I tend to use whatever the darkest brown is in the palette I am using, so I have used the dark brown in the Naked palette, the dark brown in my Sephora Primal Instincts palette, etc.

I picked up a Benefit Brow-Zings pack at the store with some misgivings ($30 for something I can already do fine), mostly because of the wax. I really like it, and I think it looks my brows overall cleaner than when I don’t use it because with the wax I have more control. But it is a bit darker than my normal brow powder, which means that my brows look darker so I need a light hand.

Absolutely the Anastasia BH Brow Wiz in Medium Ash. I’ve never, ever found another pencil that matched my ashy brown browns. Everything was always too brown or too black or too blonde. I’d cry if this color went away. Staying power is amazing too!

I’m always up for MBB brow posts! Going to comb through (pun unintended) everyone’s favorites…

Getting specific: I’m an Asian NC20 with reddish, dark brown hair, and while I lack brow density (why can’t I have thicker brows?!), I have black, coarse individual hairs. It took me years to find a brow product that wasn’t too cool or red-toned! I finally discovered Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ash Blonde or Medium Ash – the latter color would probably suit most skin tones. Anastasia carries darker shades and a Caramel (for redheads), too. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s a precise pencil with a great texture (long-lasting and not too slick or waxy).

My all time favorite is the Suqqu eyebrow liquid pen. I use both colors to make it most natural. It can be applied to achieve the thinnest strokes in all various intensity. It simply looks like your own brows. The big negative is that no store in Sweden sell it and almost no online store ship it here. But yeah.. otherwise it’s amazing..

I have really sparse brows so I like to use a pencil and powder. My first love was Milani Easy Brow pencil in Dark Brown but I’m obsessed with MAC’s Spiked and Stud brow pencils now. I love layering Embark eyeshadow over it to make it look a bit more natural. For my brush, I love using my Sedona Lace double ended brow brush and my mini angled brush from a Sonia Kashuk brush set. It’s soo stiff and perfect!

I’ve been using Too Face’s eyeshadow in Chinchilla (it came in their Matte Eyes palette and its the perfect brown for my brows) for filling, applied with a short stiff bristled brush. Then I use Maybelline’s Define-A-Brow pencil for defining the edges and soften/blend it all with a spoolie.
