What Are the Hardest and Easiest Things About Makeup for You?

The struggle is real

Hello, and happy Wednesday! I just dropped Connor off at school and was about to paint on a 10-minute face on when I got to thinking about how some aspects of makeup are easier than others. I can usually fly through certain things, like blush and bronzer, but eyeshadow is a totally different story. Even when I do a relatively a simple look with just a couple shadows, I still have to think about where I place the color and how high up I can take it. If I don’t, my eye makeup ends up asymmetrical.

Anywho, I was wondering if you find certain things easier or harder to do, too. Here’s my quick list!

Stuff that’s relatively easy for me

  • Mascara (Side note: I’ve got to have a good formula, though)
  • Blush
  • Bronzer
  • Base (I like to keep it simple)
  • Concealer
  • Lipstick/Gloss in neutral colors

Stuff that’s hard

  • Eyeshadow
  • Eyeliner
  • Brows
  • Dark or bright lipstick
  • So, basically anything that involves intensely paying attention to symmetry!

How about you?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Mh, hardest for me is sometimes to try new things, to play with colours and to change habits…😂 once I try and the next day I want to repeat, but then there s not enough time, so I do it like before. F i a different eyeshadow and not the favourite one I put on yesterday, oh, well, if I don t have other problems 😜 but this is it sometimes.

I totally get that, Wiebke. When I know that I like a certain look, I’ll just deep repeating it! I’ve been wearing the same eye/cheek/lip combo for the last few days!

    Hi Karen,

Happy Wednesday! We are half way to the weekend now … Yipee.

I actually find base is one of the most time consuming and difficult steps in a makeup routine for me, from choosing the right formula for where my skin is at, to the right tool and applying just enough but not too much. And then there is the colour match dilemma. I love what others can do with their base tint or foundation but mine never seems to look at seamless.

I find eyeshadow and lip product application a fun challenge but I am not fancy or technical with either, I prefer nude lip colours and creamy formulas that are more forgiving, and cream eyeshadow products are my favs. I have to be honest I have never mastered the smoky eye look either so mine is one all over colour and one crease and putter eye side triangle type of thing.

Eyeliner in the water line looks great when someone does it for me but for whatever reason when I do it my eyes water non stop. I will keep practicing that though too because I love the look and my big eyelids and eyes don’t look as good with lid eyeliner as I get older so waterline liner is where it’s at for me these days!

I love playing no with blush, bronzer and highlighters. Those I find easier because I can start light and build up easier.

Thanks for this fun question. I am inspired to do up a full face for no real reason tonight after work than to just have fun with makeup!

Happy Thursday. I’ll start with the easiest : contouring. I’ve been contouring since Kevyn Aucoin invented it. It’s so ‘immediate’ and easy for me. Hardest: mascara. I have just never like applying it. I know I look better with it but 75 percent of the time I skip it.

Definitely eye shadows. I have a hooded eye so it’s hard to apply it to make the eye more visible.

I feel eyeshadow is pretty easy for me as I basically have been doing the same shape for 20 years now (with minimal adaptions due to the aging process), but base, no matter how light I keep it, never seems to turn out just right.

    Hardest:
Eyeliner – it never looks good, it tends to make my eyelids swell, sometimes I can get away with using an angled brush and shadow
Eyeshadow – my brow space is small and my lids are becoming hooded, so anything beyond a simple wash doesn’t look good

I don’t wear blush or bronzer and don’t need to do anything besides some minor plucking and trimming my brows (no filling…yet).
