When It Comes to Types of Makeup Products, When Is One Never Enough?

January 2nd, 2014 by Karen 59 Comments

A beauty product where one is never enough?
Rollin’ deep

Oh, that’s easy! For me, it’s lipgloss. Definitely.

I always have at least three or four tubes in my purse, but the funny thing is…they’re usually all variations of pink, coral or peach! — with maybe also a tube of something shimmery and gold in the mix.

I start my days wearing one shade, and move on to others as the day goes on.

MAC Lipglasses and Plushglasses in my purse
MAC attack!

I really can’t even imagine only having a single tube of gloss…

OK, well, of course I can, but I don’t want to. 🙂

I mean, I can get behind the notion of streamlining — getting my makeup bag down to a single bronzer, mascara, foundation, primer, brow product and maybe even a single blush or eyeshadow (!), but one tube of lipgloss…? That just blows my mind.

Options… I guess that’s it for me. I like my lipgloss options.

How about you? When it comes to types of makeup products, when is one never enough?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I hope your year got off to a great start.

First thing this morning, Tabs sent out a company-wide memo ordering an end to the holiday break and demanding that all employees of Tabs the Cat Industries, LLC, return to their desks immediately.

Oh, well. 🙂

I haven’t done much product testing over the past week, and we’re sort of between seasonal releases, so I’m trying to think of things to blog about.

Do you have any things you’d like to see? Posts on permanent collection products? Makeup tip-type things or tutorials?

Or just nonstop pics of Tabs in various sexy cat poses?

You know what time it is...IT'S SEXY-TIME!

Lemme know. Meanwhile, I think another cup of coffee is in order.

For me it will always be foundation. I used to think I was on a quest to find a foundation that suited my skin perfectly, but then realised even when I found “the one” I was still thinking of which foundation I should buy next. I could never wear the same one month after month but at least I can say I know a good foundation when I wear one!

Lovely photos by the way, I love the shimmer and peach tones, they’re so summery and warm!

Red Lipstick! I rock red lips 90% of the time and I own so many I can never decide on just one. Also, my mini dachshund poses just like Tabs in that last picture! So adorable.

I second that on the red lipstick! I have a lot, maybe shades and before I use them, I would swatch them to see which one is brighter. The brighter the better ya know. ;]

But yes, in general I have a lot of lipstick. Hubster thinks it’s too much but what does he know. Lol. He likes every shade on me btw so eh.. men lol.

Hello pretty lady. I agree- I always need more than one (or three) lipsticks and lipglosses! I am really excited about all the spring releases- Guerlain, YSL and Dior collections look stunning! I am trying to wait for some reviews first before I buy anything though.

You could do a video on your hair styling- how to get those luscious curls! Or an eye make up tutorial or some tips on contouring?

I would love a cat eye tutorial done with eyeliner. I’m not sure if you’ve done one before (I know you did an outer eye tutorial with tape) but it’s a look I really like and have yet to master.

I need blush options! Hands down, I have more shades of blush than lipstick or eyeshadow (I stick to Chanel’s Complice because it makes me look awake). I really think blush can make the rest of your makeup look just plain wrong if you pick the wrong shade.

As for what to blog about, I always enjoy your blogging and photography posts. I would love to see photo tips! Thanks for asking, BTW! That was nice.

Lipstick all the way! I never intend on using something I left in my handbag on a previous day, but as it all piles up I eventually switch shades during the day because I missed a particular shade. Lately it’s been a lot of TF Spice Spice Baby, UD Naked, and Hourglass Fresco.

Nude lipsticks…. I have a ton of them, and all in regular rotation!

Foundation – like the poster above I am always thinking of the next foundation to buy, and I have realised that you don’t have just one jumper, you have a wardrobe of jumpers for different weathers and events, and foundation is the same. It is rare to find a foundation that does everything!

I’d always love more Tabs, but one thing that has really stuck with me is that post about brightening products for undereye tiredness (it was a bunch of MAC pro products). Could you do more brightening products? More blushes, lip glosses, things for a whole brighter look, even in winter? My face needs some brightness, dude! 🙂

I do have more than 1 lip balm/gloss but my real Achilles’ heel is eye makeup. I have way more eyeliners and eyeshadows than I really need. I try to be good about only hanging on the mascara that works for me like Dior Show or that new L’Oreal Butterfly one. Buying makeup in general is such a great pick-me-up on a bad day or when I am out shopping in general.

Oh gosh for me it’s definitely lipstick and I too will often start the day with one color and wear 2 or 3 different ones during the day. Another makeup item I’m a bit addicted to is bronzer! Pretty compacts are just soooo hard to resist! 🙂

Now how about a bit of both of the following? Reviews of products that have reached a certain cult following combined with sexy pics of Tabs? That would sure work for me. I’d be curious to see which you pick since I’m planning one later this year. 🙂

Lipgloss and lipstick, definitely! I usually drink my coffee on my way to work, so I wait until I’m done with that before applying instead of putting lipgloss or lipstick on with the rest of my makeup in the morning. But I can never decide on just one, so I bring a whole bunch with me so I have several options. 🙂

As for posts, I’ve always been a lipstick/lipgloss girl, and I’m only just starting to experiment more with eyeshadow. Any tutorials or inspiration for eye looks would be great.

EYESHADOWS! Specifically palettes, are my weakness. I probably have enough for a lifetime, but when a new one comes out I just cave : / got Naked 3 the second it launched and now I just cashed in my Ulta points for the Too Faced Chocolate bar palette. (It was practically free tho!) I’m such a sucker for neutrals and I just couldn’t resist chocolate scented Eyeshadows! I’m mean for real what’s better than chocolate on my eyelids? LOL

Lipstick, hands down. Especially sheer, colourful shades, because they’re so effortless I can take them with me anywhere (hence the pileup in my bag!).

It used to be gloss, but no matter what I do with my hair, it *will* get stuck in my gloss at some point 😛 I still like gloss, don’t get me wrong, but man is that ever annoying! 😀

OMG- it may be a toss up between lippies and shadow palettes. My DH says I’m a hoarder but then I remind him of his fishing lures heh heh heh.

I always have at least 5 different lip products in my bag in case I forget the one I start out with in the morning. I always carry at least 2 reds (bright and dark), a pink, a nude, and a couple lip glosses.

Eye palettes are just so much fun to look at all the pretty colors and I have this idea that I’m going to be doing all my friends makeup – but seriously? most of my friends don’t wear any – WTF? who ARE these people? LMAO Sometimes I go to Ulta just to hang out with like-minded individuals.

I always enjoy ANY posts about Tabs. I must confess I usually jump on here from work so I have not seen any of your vids yet. I want to though. I think your photography is inspiring. I wish I could get a good picture of myself when I do a bang up job on the makeup but my pics always look the same (not so good ugh) lol.

Hey, Karen ! Hope you and Tabs the Awesome are having a great Friday !

Oh, my – what a great question ! My view has always been “Too much is never enough” and I live that motto with purses and makeup…

I have more makeup that any one human being could ever, ever use in a dozen lifetimes, but I just. Can’t. Stop. I carry a small purse – right now a Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac Crossbody (I have ELEVEN of them !) – AND a shoulder/tote bag and always have a way-too-big makeup case with me. I always carry at least 5 or 6 lipsticks/glosses, powder, blush, whatever eyeshadow I’m sporting that day, a brow pencil and mascara-type color gel, mascara, highlighter, and at least a dozen eyeliners, just in case, with Urban Decay’s Perversion and Stila’s Stingray always in attendance.

And at home ? My haul/stash/treasure trove ? I have many, many multiples, just in case something is discontinued, of Stila’s Forever Your Curl mascara, my hands-down fave, any and all blacks, browns, and purples in the Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner line, Benefit’s Dandelion, and Naked 1, 2, and 3.

I have 273 different lip glosses. Two Hundred and Seventy Three. All together they cost more than I paid for my first car.

I think I need professional help. But it’s a lovely kind of crazy, and I have so many fellow soldiers here at MBB that understand. You guys “get” me, and make me think that 273 lip glosses isn’t such a bad thing after all…

Happy weekend to one and all and hugs to Karen and Sexy Tabs 🙂

Hey… This is a really nice question… I have a friend that never has enough lipsticks (in all colors and finishes you can imagine). My “problem” is not only one at really, but two… I never had enough eye shadows and eye liners in nude and dark blue colors. I love the combination of a nude eye shadow and a blue eye liner to the day by day makeup… so… I never have enough. To realize how complex it is I have some very similar colors that I refuse to assume that are dupes! LOL
