How I Wear Nude Lipstick (A Collaboration With Anna)

When I first started wearing lipstick, I was a sucker for a red lip, particularly matte red lips, and I still am. If I had to wear the same lip color for the rest of my life, it would probably be something red.

But my tastes have grown over the years to include many other colors, including nudes. A change of pace is nice sometimes, and some nudes are just too good to pass up.

I tend to go for the bolder nudes, like pink nudes, or a nude with brownish red undertones.

To go along with Anna’s favorite nude lippies, here are three of my favorite nudes that I’ve been wearing on the regular (when I’m not going for my signature red).

The first one is one of the Maybelline Vivid Mattes, and Adia did an amazing review of these a little while back, so I’m not going to spend too much time on the particulars. I will say that it’s one of my favorite everyday liquid lipsticks for a few reasons. The color lasts, it’s not overly drying, and it’s truly a universally flattering shade.

It can easily be worn with just a bit of mascara for a daytime look or something like a smoky eye for night.

My second favorite nude is my go-to pink for when I feel like wearing something other than red, but don’t want to wear anything particularly bright. It’s Colourpop Lippie Stix in Lumiere, a dusty mauve.

On their website Colourpop says that it’s not a nude, but I feel like it’s on the pinker end of the nude spectrum… It’s definitely not bubblegum; that’s for sure.

I’ve taken to wearing for things like meeting friends for lunch or going to get a coffee by myself (also, it smells amazing — like cotton candy!).

My third favorite nude is one of my more recent purchases. Have you noticed that almost every brand is coming out with their own version of a “velvet matte” lip pencil? Well, even drugstore brands have gotten into it too. Wet n Wild Hickory Smoked caught and grabbed my attention one day.

It reminds me of something Dana Scully might have worn… I can’t tell if the undertones are more pink or more coral, but I definitely see more of a brown tone in the swatch on my hand.

Either way, when it dries down matte, I get a fun ’90s vibe that makes me want to go like this.

Here are all three shades swatched together:

wet n wild, colourpop, maybelline, vivid mattes, lippie stix,
T – B: Maybelline Vivid Mattes in Nude Thrill, Colourpop Lippie Stix in Lumiere, and Wet n Wild Velvet Matte Lip Crayon in Hickory Smoked

All three of these lipsticks have just enough pigment for me without making me feel like I’m completely attached to my makeup look for the day.

There you have it — my three favorite nudes and how I wear them! Do you have any of these shades? What are your favorite nude lippies right now?

I love a good nude! You just have to know what kind of nude suits you and then you’re all set.

I have a few of those Wet n Wild Velvet Matte lip pencils and I absolutely love them! They’re not quite as pigmented as I would like (I have naturally bright lips so it’s already difficult) but I really enjoy the texture, especially for their price!

Oooh I love Lumiere! It’s such an easy goes-with-everything colour. And it’s a bargain!

It was my first purchase from Colourpop! Along with Poison. I love them both!

I enjoy the brownish nudes that are all the rage right now, but stay away from the pinkier ones.

Interesting how subjective the word “nude” is! For a pink-y person, some pinks would definitely be nude, as you’ve shown here. Being pink-beige myself (a lot darker than you), I’ll have to try this approach to getting the right nude.

We have similar taste in nude lipsticks. If they don’t have a pink ,red or orange undertone they wash me out. The popular “Kylie Jenner” nudes look terrible on me. I brought several and have to add red or pink to make them wearable. I also don’t like invisible lipsticks, I feel like what’s the point? I have a vast amount of lip colors, but I find nudes the toughest to match my complexion with.

Beautiful shades! I don’t own any of the three you show, but I would. I prefer more pigmented nudes, as well. My favorite “nudes” are Urban Decay Sheer Rapture, Nyx Butter Lipstick in Pops, Wet n Wild Fergie in Bebot Love, Jordana Modern Mattes in Matte Classy, Urban Decay Matte Revolution in Stark Naked, Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Laguna Beach, and e.l.f. Studio Matte Lip Color in Tea Rose.

The colourpop is a good one for me. I wear NARS Rikugien and Fresh Berry a lot as nudes. NARS Anna is also a good nude for me. I have really dark lips naturally so most traditional nude shades look terrible.

I loooove Rikugien but I wasn’t sure if it had too much shimmer/pink to be considered a nude in my book. I’ll have to try it again soon!
