Everything Old Is New Again with the MAC Jeanius Collection

February 24th, 2011 by Karen 61 Comments

mac jeanius

OH, what I wouldn’t give to be able to fit into my acid wash Guess overalls from seventh grade. I’d wear them to the MAC counter on March 3 (with one strap up and one down, of course) to welcome the limited edition MAC Jeanius Collection. 🙂

To any and all denim angels listening, please take pity on my 35-year-old bum. It longs to fit into a pair of size 7 juniors pants.

SIDENOTE: J. Brand 811s are my fall-back plan (petite shorties, you gotta give this cut a try).

Do you recall Chanel Jeans de Chanel?

I’m pretty stoked about MAC’s 16-piece denim-themed collection for eyes, lips, cheeks and nails, even if we’ve seen similar themes like it before.

I still cry myself to sleep at night for missing 2003’s Chanel Jeans de Chanel.

Bobbi Brown Denim & Roses

More recently, there was also last fall’s Bobbi Brown Denim & Roses Collection…

The MAC Riveting Collection

Shoot, even MAC has kindasorta tried jeans on before with last year’s Riveting Collection.

Well, it’s not directly tied to denim, but blue jeans DO have rivets.

Okay, so maybe that’s a stretch…

Even before makeup companies were jumping on the blue jean bandwagon, other companies were doing denim, like Versace with their Blue Jeans Cologne from back in the day ($29.99 at Target).

Even Merle Haggard got in on the action. Remember Make-Up and Faded Blue Jeans?

Perfect song to listen to while we check out the official PR photos and info for the MAC Jeanius Collection…

OOOH GURL. I think I might have that color somewhere in my stash. I have to go digging. Hopefully I can find it, because for some reason several of my MAC lip colors have gone MIA. I honestly think Tabs has been gathering and hiding the tubes somewhere. He gets obsessed with certain things. A while ago it was socks…

Love your blog (this is my first post)! There was a Jeans de Chanel on *bay that ended just today, I was so tempted, but figured I probably shouldn’t use makeup that old (and $50 is a lot just to have another collectible stashed in my drawers). I love Chanel palettes, how long do you think they are good for? I usually don’t use palettes if they’re more than a year old or so, mainly because I find new ones to buy! I still love the Tokyo happening palette (as rediculously sparkly as it is), I’d love to find one of the new Asian exclusive glow powders that look a little more subtle!

Do you wear heels often? The only time you’ll find me in flats is when I’m wearing flip flops or running shoes. 🙂

          • Advah says

            February 25th, 2011 at 3:39 pm

I mainly wear flats actually, apart from one pair of summer wedges. I walk everywhere (inc. 30 mins to go to work) so flat boots or Converse make things move faster!

I’d love to wear heels more often (usually leave them in my bag), but I can’t find shoes that are comfortable enough to walk in. Any particular brand you’d recommend? (PS: I’ll quickly complain that Nine West shoes are nice and padded, but painfully narrow for my feet)

(PS2: I’m still lusting after your Kate Spade shoes. They’re just gorgeous.)

For comfort, Aerosoles heels are really great. They’ve gotten surprisingly hip in the last few years. I got this pair of yellow heels from them a few years ago and to this day they’re my “comfort” heels:

I love the shadow designs (the rivets are adorable), but I’m not crazy for any of the colors. That said, the polishes, especially Biker Blue, look awesome. I don’t remember hearing good things about MAC polishes, though. Did you say you found them to be a bit hard to apply and not so chip-resistant?

      Hi Kim,

Yeah, I haven’t always had the best of luck with them. I find that the finish isn’t always as shiny as I’d like. Of course that can always be fixed with a good top coat, but still. If I’m in a hurry I want to have the option to just polish and go, ya know?

Have you tried Jean Queen, Lipstick Queen’s take on denim-friendly lip color that came out last year? I picked up Jean Queen lipstick, which is a super-flattering sheer pink, and I find myself reaching for it quite often (even when I’m not wearing jeans).

        Hi, Karen!

I have perpetually chapped lips, and I love the texture of Jean Queen — soothing and moisturizing, without the heavy feel that some other hydrating lipsticks have. When I wear it, I usually only need to touch up the color after lunch and dinner, so I’d say the wear time is at least 4 hours for me, if not more.

The other Lipstick Queen product I wear often is Medieval, a sheer red lip tint that’s really pretty and very moisturizing.

As a longtime fan of Poppy King, the woman behind the Lipstick Queen line, I also have to recommend her book “Lessons of a Lipstick Queen”. A great read for both cosmetics junkies and anyone who owns (or dreams of owning) a business. My husband, who is a business professor, even uses it as a text in his entrepreneurship classes!

I really want to see how pigmented the eyeshadows are, and whether or not the rivet color goes all the way through, but mostly I like the more neutral pink lipstick, lipglass, and blush. Those I will probably own by March 4th.
