Face of the Day: A Smokey Eye with MAC Club

March 11th, 2008 by Karen 70 Comments

I had a lot of fun with MAC Club eyeshadow today. Its versatility makes it great for creating quick, daytime smokey eyes. I had about three seconds to put on my makeup this morning, and I owe this look to MAC Club. Paired with a few new products from Fafi and the N Collections, MAC Club helped me finish this look in 10 minutes.

Believe it or not, but there is a completely rational explanation (as soon as I think of it) for why my nails are different colors in this picture.

fotd-eye-031108.jpg

fotd-eye2-0301108.jpg

Here’s what I used to get the look…

Lid
-MAC Quite Natural Paint Pot
-MAC Club Eyeshadow

Crease
-MAC Quite Natural Paint Pot with Perky Paint Pot
-MAC Soba Eyeshadow

Browbone
-MAC Perky Paint Pot
-MAC Nanogold Eyeshadow

Brows
– MAC Concrete Eyeshadow

Lashes
-MAC Plushlash in Plushblack

Lower lash line
-MAC Eye Pencil in Coffee
-MAC Eyeshadow in Soba

Undereye circles
– Dior Long-Wearing Moisturizing Concealer in 430
– Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder #2

Face
– Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer in Almond
– Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder

Cheeks
– MAC Emote blush

Lips
– MAC Pink Treat Cremestick lip liner
– Chanel Glossimer in Galactic

I haven’t forgotten about the tutorial requests for last week’s pink and blue pastel eye; I hope to finish it this week.

Running late for work… I’ve got one finger on the keyboard and a foot out the door!

I hope your day’s been fab so far and that your coffee has worked its magic. Yea! We made it through Monday!

I have this eyeshadow and have not figured out a way to use it. I will try out this look. How can you do all this in ten minutes?? This would take me 30 at least! lol.

Club is sooooo next on my ‘to buy’ list! I love greens and browns and darker colours, and it’s all of them at once!

I’m tempted to invest in Shade and Macroviolet fluidliners – any thoughts on how they look? I don’t have a counter within 100miles so everything gets ordered online!

I tried your smokey fafi eye (quad 1 and nice vice). Its quite quick and really pretty! Thank you!!

And Oh. Em. Gee. I LOVE Strawbaby… must buy backup…

I hope this doesn’t come off wrong, but sis, you look very young and gorgeous on here. Not that your looks are ever the opposite, but it must be the hair or something because you got that youth action going on! Lol.

And I still got Fafi swatches on my nails – I’m gross like that, lol.

    Hi Vanessa,

Club RULES! I love it. It’s one of those shadows that everyone should have.

I usually don’t wear different colored nails (I’m pretty conservative with my nail color) but this look was fun (and quite accidental, LOL).

    Hey Shar Shar,

Truthfully I have no real interest in it…I don’t really dig liquid highlighters (hard to control – stick ones are faster when I’m in a hurry). I used the OG Strobe Cream a long time ago and it made me look like a greasy disco ball!

I am interested in the Tinted Lip Conditioners. I have a few from the past (in pots) and I like ’em.

Have you tried it yet? What do you think?

    Hi Kirsty,

Oh yes, girlfriend, Club will so be up your ally. Once you get it try it with Vex – it’s VERY PRETTY! I need more greens in my life! Can you recommend any?

I don’t have either Shade or Macroviolet, boo hoo. I vaguely recall trying Macroviolet a long time ago and not buying it because of the texture.

I’m so glad that you tried the Fafi eye! It’s easy, yah? I’m all about fast makeup these days.

No worries, girlfriend! On the drive to work today I was thinking about how cool getting older has been (I understand myself more, things don’t freak me out like they used to) but hey I’ll take a young complement any old day!

I had some Essie swatches on my left hand for MONTHS. It was nasty! I think we were separated at birth.

So Karen…The weirdest thing…MBB has started stalking me…:-) So you know how you opt in to be notified of follow up comments…well I usually remember to click this and that way I get to see the fun chatter in my email. So i read the blog as usual yesterday…I posted a couple comments…no big deal…

This morning I’m reading an email and I see this comment on “Face of the Day: A Smokey Eye with MAC Club”…and I think huh…that must be an old post because I don’t remember it. That happens occasionally – people post comments on an old post…LOL like the week long discussion of Yo Gabba Gabba w/ Mrs. Lynne a few weeks back 🙂 So anyhow I click in…and I got emailed one of the comments on a new post I hadn’t read yet…weird.

Anyway you should give us an option to get an email when you post a new blog…

and btw I like the FOTD…I can do complicated, but it would definitely take longer than ten minutes simply because of the number of products you used. I am constantly having to look for the colors/pallettes I want. 🙁 I need a better organization system.

    Hi Glosslizard,

Interesting! I get no coral at all, but our skin tones are very different so that’s a given that Perky would read differently.

I don’t ever think I’ve worn orange eyeshadow, now that I think about it.

    Hi Tuprnut,

Aww, thanks! I think it was the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. That stuff works magic!

LOL, I am still heavy in the pink phase too. I can’t stop!

How’s the fitness been this week? Spend any time on your elliptical? I lifted weights on Sunday, went to dance on Monday, but skipped out yesterday (I was supposed to lift weights again). I was so sore from the last session and I got about two seconds of sleep the night before cause I was super tired. Blah! My sweet tooth has been in full gear but I got some Haagen Daz frozen yogurt (in the small pint) and I’ve been doling out little bits here and there with cut up strawberries. It’s just enough to ease the pain, LOL.

    Hey Shar Shar,

Yeah, I love the Lip Conditioners, but I hate that they are in pots because I’m not keen on putting my fingers in there (and I’m often too lazy to use a lip brush), so I’m glad they put these in stick form. I just got my hands on Strobe Current and Strobe Kiss yesterday. They rock…

    Hiya Victoria,

Yeah, girl! I am almost always late (trying to work on that … it’s one of my New Year’s resolutions!) so the quick and dirty makeup application has become my forte, so to speak. When I have time I usually love taking my sweet time though too, especially when I can listen to music or eat a snack or two (ha! it’s true!) while I’m applying it! 🙂

    Hi Megan,

Oh wow, thank you for giving me the heads up on that. I will see if I can find something that does that feature.

Regarding organization, what I do when I am in a hurry is I grab all the products that I think I need beforehand and arrange them on the counter or my desk. That helps save a little bit of time. My apartment is small is if I still need more stuff I can just run into the other room and grab whatever it is. When I’m done I throw it all into a bag and when I get home from work I just take the products from the bag and then put them back where they belong.

I have a three plastic Steralite drawers compartments (with nine drawers total) I got from Joanne’s a few months ago. I separate them by product and line, and if I can (because I’m OCD that way) limited edition collection. To help with the organization I’m thinking about getting a label maker because I hate having to pick up shadows and then check the names underneath to be sure it’s the one I need. It’s not my ideal situation because those drawers are ugly but it’s cheap and it works for now.

My sweet tooth is on over-drive, too! I’ve been picking up the Yogurt Parfaits from McDonald’s a few times a week for a healthy snack – I love these! I’ve started cutting out my nightly drink – oh, I miss my glass of wine 🙁 But, it’s all worth it, right?

I can see myself just applying Club all over and just head out of the door cos combining all those colors will definitely take me more than half an hour and I am still working to improve my 30-minute makeup time.

Love the nails! I wonder when there will be a trend of chipping nail colors, though. Mine are that way after 2 days and I’m too lazy to re-apply/remove them.
