Sometimes, you just gotta spend some quality time with your first love… Your first makeup love, that is! For me, that’s MAC, ’cause I am still, and always will be, forever a MAC girl at heart.
There are a couple of things (actually, quite a few things) they’ve released recently that I’ve really been into, like the Love Me Lipsticks.
This line of really cute lippies came out this summer (which officially just ended here in the Northern Hemisphere), with distinct, colorful packaging that hints at what’s inside — crimson tubes for red shades, peach tubes for the nudes, purples for the violets.
You get the picture.
The lippies are infused with argan oil, and they’re super moisturizing (no lip flakes here!). I like the satiny finish, which reminds me of the Cremesheens, but the shine is turned down a notch or two.
I’ve been wearing a few of the shades lately, and — big surprise! — my favorite is a neutral pink. It’s called “Under the Covers,” and it basically goes with everything.
(Side note: you can see Let Them Eat Cake, French Silk and My Little Secret in action here.)
The Love Me lipsticks are SO intense, SO concentrated, that sometimes, if I apply a little too much, they pool in the vertical lines on my lips.
NOOOOO!
Thankfully, it’s only temporary, because after a quick blot and a few pats from a finger, they look perfectly smooth and stay that way for the duration, which, depending on the color, is from 3-4 hours.
So lovely!
Another thing I’m loving? The new MAC Studio Fix Soft Matte Foundation Stick. It’s a light-to-medium coverage foundation that comes in a cream stick, and it’s clearly catering to that “skin is in” moment happening in makeup right now.
I like a sheerer base, so I’m into it, but if you typically prefer more opaque coverage, I’d recommend stopping by a counter to try it on before ordering.
My favorite way to apply it is to run a flat Kabuki brush across the top of the stick, then buff that on my combo dry/oily skin. Then, I’ll set the oily parts of my face with a powder.
Note: if you’ve got very oily skin, you’ll definitely want to set it with a powder.
The last thing I’ve been crushing on lately involves layering Woodwinked eyeshadow underneath Satin Taupe.
I’m serious — when you layer and blend the two together, the result is a gorgeous golden taupe on your lids. It’s a lovely little somethin’-somethin’!
It’s my new favorite eyeshadow combo, and it’s incredibly easy to do.
MAC girls, represent!
If you have any questions about these or anything you’ve been loving lately from MAC, you know where to find me. ?

I recently purchased MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish Natural after reading an earlier review of yours, and I love it! So pretty and natural! My only eyeshadow palette is MAC shades I’ve chosen, and I have a few of their brushes. Being a Canadian girl, I have a lot of love for MAC.
Karen says
I’m so glad that you like it, Jennifer! That’s still one of my favorite MAC items of all time. If they ever discontinued it I would freak out!
Are you wearing it on its own, or are you using it to set a foundation?
Jennifer says
I’m actually using it over foundation. I use one pump of ELDW on my face and then use a light brush of Mineralize Skinfinish. I’ve noticed recently my skin isn’t as oily as it used to be, and the loose powder I was using (Coty Airspun) was starting to look a bit heavy. The MAC powder just adds a bit of life to my face without making it look oily. Thanks so much for the recommendation!

I’ve been using Groundwork all around my eyes for a subtle look and I like it a lot.
Karen says
Love Groundwork for a quickie eye look! One of my faves.

Those lipstick colors look nice and wearable!
Karen says
They are! So many colors that you can wear with just about anything.

Mac was and is my first makeup love too! Me lurves their mineralized concealer, natural radiance primer, studio fix powder foundation, peachy keen blush, paint pots (bare study, soft ochre and ground work the most) and most of their neutral eyeshadows (woodwinked, soft brown, texture, mulch, Swiss chocolate, espresso, etc). My all time faves!
Karen says
Don’t forget their eye pencils! Coffee is the best brown liner. 🙂 I also have mad love for Teddy and Costa Riche.

They just discontinued the mineralize concealer!!! I was devastated and bought the last 3 in my shade.

My faves are Next to Nothing powder, Sur and Blushbaby blushes, and several lippies. My most worn are Velvet Teddy, Half n Half, Modesty, Verve, and Soar. Our local store is out of all the new lippies, but I have my eye on Coffee and Cigs, and Bated Breath. Maybe Laissez Faire, too. 🙂

I cannot live without Mac See Sheer. It’s my default everyday lipstick!

I love these new MAC lipsticks. I picked up Under The Covers and Hey, Frenchie! I feel like I need to go back and try one of the reds and maybe Mon Coeur, Tres Blase or My Little Secret.
Satin Taupe, such a classic! I love it. Not sure I ever own Woodwinked.
I want to try the SF foundation stick. If for no other reason, than I’m still searching for my holy grail foundation. You know the one that lasts 6 to 10 hours, doesn’t crease in my lines or give me polka dot pores and actually matches my skin undertones instead of “sorta, close enough”.
Anne says
I am a MAC Girl too, and even though I haven´t purchased from them in a while. Satin Taupe is my most worn eye shadow, but I layer it on top of Cliniques Ample Amber eyeshadow stick for some extra golden effect.

I need to see these lippies! My 2 favorite lipsticks of all time are Twig for MLBB, and this year I purchased 100 carnations. A lovely warmer lighter red, since I am a bit scared of a red lip (they never look quite right on me). Also a shout out for Skinfinish Mineralized powder. I am missing it so much now that my summer tan has vanished, and I need to pickup a cool weather color.

Is studio fix foundation good long wearing for wedding event ?

This has nothing to do with MAC but I’m going to express my jealousy for your eyebrow hair!! You have like 100 little “just getting started” hairs in the last pic. Guess how many I have? (And I know because I just pulled out a 10x magnifying mirror). Three. 🙁 No wonder I can’t get my brows to look thicker. I probably have more mustache hairs than eyebrow. Cherish your eyebrow hair!! 🙂

I LOVE the Love Me lipsticks, too. They feel so good on the lips and don’t dry them out, which is always a huge problem for my eternally dry lips. My favorite color so far is Killing Me Softly, a super pretty dirty plum. I got the Art Library Flame-boyant palette too, and that palette is freaking amazing! The color story is delightful.
